23 Enrollment (3)

Nathan put the key into the lock and opened the door. He was greeted with a surprisingly large room.

The room was very well maintained compared to other inns that he had been to previously. This was one of the reasons why Nathan wanted the room so badly.

The other was the bathrooms. Being from a futuristic universe, he could never get over the fact that most people did not have access to showers or toilets and could only take baths.

The exception to this were places that had been renovated by magi. Even his own home had its own shower but when it came to being outside of his home and in most inns, he would be forced to use a chamber pot or hole to use the bathroom and barely warm water to clean himself.

Nathan threw his luggage on the bed closest to the door before he took off his hood and mask as he sat down on the free bed and got into the lotus position. He then began to meditate in order to clear his mind and continue his ki training.

Nathan had been training under his mother and aunt for 9 years and could be said to be one of the most powerful mystics in his age group. He could use his talent as a mystic as well as his techniques from his previous life to train his body and abilities in the most efficient way possible.

Even an experienced mage like his mother had to be careful when they were sparring. Of course, if she was going all out, she would blow Nathan away with a single move. His aunt was another monster. Without even using internal ki, she was able to overpower Nathan when he was going all out.

Nathan sat like that for 4 hours until it was the early evening. It was only when his stomach began to grumble that he got up. He saw that his aunt was no longer in the room and went down toward the lobby of the inn.

He made his way to the dining hall before presenting his key to the host who stood outside. After confirming that he was a guest of their inn, Nathan was shown to a table.

He picked up the menu and began to scan over the dishes while he waited for a waiter to show up.

Soon, a cute girl with a bubbly personality appeared before him in the server uniform with a pad and pen in her hand.

"Welcome to the Witch's Hut. Do you you know what you would like to eat or would you like to take some more time to look over the menu?"

The entire menu was not very long and did not change from the last time that he was there so Nathan already knew what he wanted.

"I'll take the Witch's Cauldron with 3 orders of Eye of Newt meatballs on the side as well as some water to drink."

The girl wrote down the order before thanking Nathan and taking it back to the kitchen.

Nathan sat at his table and began observing all of the other customers in the hall.

Most were loud and annoying. You had the drunk adventurers and soldiers, the nobles showing off, or just the plain old angry drunk who would most likely start the bar fight.

Besides them, there were also many teens who appeared to be here for the enrollment exam. You could tell their family background by what they wore but Nathan did not care about that.

He was judging them all by their strength. After years on the battlefield, Nathan had been able to distinguish the strength of his enemies pretty easily.

Although mana and ki were hard to read, Nathan got used to it eventually enough to the point where he could 'read' it and tell how dangerous a person was.

And the feeling he got from all the children there was that he could beat them all easily. Still, he made sure to remember the faces of those that felt slightly more dangerous or mysterious than the others.

By the time his food arrived, Nathan was starving and the smell did not help get rid of that urge. It only increased it by how good it smelt. He had not eaten all day since he was traveling all morning and training in the afternoon.

The stew and meatballs would be the first thing he had eaten that was not rations. He immediately dived into the food as he planned what he would do for the next few days after he took his enrollment exam tomorrow as well as trying to make a last-minute decision on which academy he would join.

There were 2 main choices laid out before him.

The first was the Royal Zallu Academy. This was the national academy for his country and the best one in it. It had all the best teachers and resources that anyone could ask for which made it the only first-rate school in the nation.

The next option was the Imperial Academy. This was an academy within the Empire of Heaven. This was the largest nation on the continent as well as the most powerful. The only reason that the other nations had not been conquered was due to the Empire fearing being attacked on all sides by the smaller nations.

Along with their large size and powerful strength, their academy was also famous. Many lower ranked nobles with a large amount of talent from foreign nations would leave their homelands for the Imperial Academy for a chance to make a name for themselves as well as have a chance to become a noble for the empire.

He had discussed with his mother, father, and aunt and was stuck with those 2. Both his mother and father wanted him to study at the Royal Zallu Academy for different reasons.

His mother since that would make it easier for him to study many natives of the country to build up his reputation while his father just had a large amount of national pride.

But neither could deny that the other academy suited Nathan very much and he would flourish no matter where he went.

In fact, it was his aunt who wanted him to join the Imperial Academy the most. She had gone there and had learned a large amount of information that would not have been available in Zallu.
