Chapter 8: The Unexpected

Alexa's P.O.V.

I was on my way to school when this SUV in front of me stopped. I stopped thinking maybe something was in the road. The driver got out, and turned around and was holding a gun up at me. Before I could react he pulled the trigger, and everything went black.

My eyes fluttered open adjusting to the low light. I looked around and saw I was in some kind of cage where there were no windows. I couldn't tell where I was at. I tried to stand. I stood up and went to walk to the cell door but only came a few feet away. I looked down to my ankle to find me chained to the floor.

I walked back to the wall and sat down, trying to think of the person that shot me, I didn't recognize him. I couldn't feel my wolf, something was very wrong. "What is wrong with me?" Someone spoke. "I don't know but don't try and work yourself up by trying to change. You will just hurt yourself in the long run."

I looked to the door to see a man standing there. It was the one that shot me. "Who are you? Why am I here?" He was watching me, he was tall, had blonde hair, green eyes, and was human. "Well my name is Finn, and you are here because they think you are a monster and don't deserve to have a normal life." Does he not agree with the other hunters and scientists?

"Are you working with Mr. Reed?" "You know you are the prisoner. I am the one that is supposed to be asking the questions, but yes I am working for Mr. Reed." He didn't say anything after that.

"Why can I not change or feel my wolf?" He laughed like I asked a stupid question. "You don't know much do you." I growled at him. "Okay, calm down, I injected you with a small amount of aconite."

I guess he saw the fear across my face. "Don't worry not enough to kill you, just enough to weaken you." I heard another door open and sniffed the air. It was Mr. Reed. He walked to the door. "What is your name?" I didn't answer, I just sat there watching him.

He looked at Finn. "Has she said nothing." "Yeah she wouldn't shut up till just now." I threw Finn a are you kidding me look, then looked back at Mr. Reed He opened the door and stepped in and shut it. "My name is Mr. Reed, what is your name?" I still just sat there not saying anything. He walked up to me and grabbed me by my hair and pulled me off the floor.

"When I am talking to you, you are going to answer me. Now what is your name?" I still just stared at him not saying anything. He slapped me across the face, because of the aconite it felt pretty bad. I could tell it was starting to bruise. He reached in his pocket and grabbed something.

I felt a prick on the side of my neck. It felt like someone set my blood on fire. My whole body started to burn, he threw me on the ground and left. Aconite couldn't kill me in such low dosages, but it still can do some damage.

After Mr. Reed left, Finn waited a few minutes before opening the door and walking over to me. I growled and tried to get further away from me. He reached his hand out. I looked and he held out a bottle of water. I grabbed it and gulped it down.

"You better slow down, you are going to make yourself sick." I stopped and looked at him. "Why would you care? Why are you even doing this?" "I might work for Mr. Reed, but that doesn't mean I agree with what he thinks and does." I closed the bottle and handed it back.

Finn took it and set it beside him. "So, what is your name?" I didn't want to tell him but I felt like I could trust him. "Alexa" He smiled at me. "Well then it is nice to meet you Alexa." He got up to leave. Before he got to the door I spoke up. "Finn?" He stopped and turned around. "Yes"

"Thank you." He tilted his head. "For what?" "For caring not many humans would." He didn't say anything, just put on a straight face then left. Not long after he left I felt my body slip into unconsciousness.

When I woke I could tell they gave me another dose of aconite. I was barely able to move. My veins felt like sandpaper rubbing together, my body felt like it was on fire I was so hot. I couldn't tell what time of day it was, or how long I have been here. Someone has to be looking for me by now. I hope.

Cain's P.O.V.

When I got to school I didn't see Alexa sitting at the table. I sat down and waited. Eli walked up. "Hey Eli have you seen Alexa." "No" I could tell Eli had no idea where she was. Eli got his phone out and texting someone. After it went off he responded. I asked. "Did you find her?" He just shook his head. "Eli when was the last time you talked to her?" He thought for a second. "Yesterday, when she was telling me about..." He stopped. "Telling you about, wait he couldn't have known or acted this fast."

Eli looked at me, and we both spoke at the same time. "Mr. Reed" We both left school. Eli told me to follow him to his house. I knew I should have gone and got her out of town. We got to Eli's at the same time as someone else. By the power radiating off of him I guessed he was the alpha. He looked at me and walked over and put a hand on my shoulder.

"You must be Cain." "Yes sir and you must be Mr. Wood." "Please call me Max." A woman walked up beside him. "This is my wife Isabella." "Hi, it's very nice to meet both of you." Isabella spoke. "It's nice to meet you too, just wish it was under better circumstances."

We all walked inside to the living room and sat down. Mr. and Mrs. Woods sat on the couch next to who I guess was Eli's parents. Eli, Artemis, Lily, and Elijah were also there. We all sat down and Eli stood up. "I called this emergency meeting because Cain and I have speculation that Alexa has been taken hostage by Mr. Reed."

Alexa's mom gasped, I saw fear and worry for her daughter across her face along with everyone else in the room. Max spoke. "Why do you two think this." Eli looked at me then I told them what Alexa had told us yesterday. To say her dad was furious was an understatement he was livid.

Isabella put her hand on his shoulder to try and calm him down. "Max we have more important things to worry about than her not telling us." He shook his head. "Yeah, okay, so what are we going to do?" Eli spoke.

"We have Cain on our side. Let's use that to our advantage." Who I guess is Eli's mom spoke. "How do we know we can trust what he tells us." Eli looked at Max. "You need to make him a pack member then we can tell if he is telling the truth or not." Max growled. "You do not tell me what I need to do."

Eli lowered his head. I could tell Max's wolf was trying to be let out. "Sorry I didn't mean to sound challenging." Max calmed down some. "No I shouldn't let my wolf have control like that, and you are right." Max stood up and motioned me to do so too.

I stood up and walked over to him. Eli walked out of the room and returned with a knife. He handed it to Max and I watched as Max cut his palm then handed me the knife. I cut my palm then handed the knife back to Eli.

Max held out his hand and I took it. "I Maxwell Wood alpha of the Canton Pack, make you Cain Reed a member of The Canton Pack." I felt the link between the pack and I manifest. I finally had a pack, had a true family, had a place where I belonged. Eli handed us both a towel to wipe off the blood.

We sat back down and I looked at everyone. "Thank you. You don't know how happy I am right now." Max started talking. "Okay now Cain we need you to find everything you can about what happened to Alexa and tell us as soon as you find anything out."

After the meeting I went back to school. Everyone was tense without Alexa there not really knowing what to do without their alpha. I could tell the pack cared deeply for her and I know when she becomes alpha she will have the whole pack to stand behind her no matter what happens.

I pulled into my driveway and got out of my truck and walked inside. When I walked inside I smelt Finn. I walked into the kitchen to find him standing at the sink. I walked over to him and embraced him in a hug. "It's good to see you too Cain."

I have known Finn since I was three. He was always so nice and kind to me. He was always there for me after the fights. He was the one that got me through my first kill. He is the closest thing I have to an actual father. "I know why you are here, and I can smell her on you so don't try and lie."

"I am only doing as I am told the same as I always have." "I know but Finn this is different she is different." I looked around. "Don't worry he is not here." "Finn where are they keeping her?" "Cain you know I can't tell you that. If Mr. Reed finds out." I growled stopping him.

"I don't care if he finds out. All I care about is finding her." "Okay, but not now if you go there now he will know that you lied about her being here. He still thinks she was just passing through."

"Okay, fine we will wait but not too long. I don't know what I would do if she got hurt or worse killed." I trusted Finn to keep her safe for a while, but even he couldn't stop all the bad things.
