Chapter 27: Space

Kieran POV

I wasn’t sure how long I had been sitting outside Brenna’s door. I must look pathetic sitting out here drenched and half-dressed, but it didn’t matter.

I hurt the one person I had never wanted to hurt. I thought if I kept a distance from her, that’d she’d be safe and could move on from this place. She had finally found freedom, and I didn’t want to trap her behind the hotel walls, just like that piece of shit had done to her before.

I fucked up.

It felt like hours since she slammed the door in my face. I could hear her yelling in the room as she drew a bath. Her hands must ache from the now soiled bandages she wore from smashing her phone, but it’s not as if I could help her.

I couldn’t break the door down and rescue her. That was overkill, and I knew it. She drew a line, and I needed to respect it. Anything more than what I was doing right now, and she’d probably leave as soon as the morning sun graced the hotel.
