Chapter 52: Cure

*Jessica*

For a long moment everything was still and silent. Robin, the people in the seats, the people recording, and the people who must have been watching the stream just stared at us.

That was fine, because I just stared right back.

Robin eventually broke the silence by asking a short, simple question. “What made you come back, Jessica?”

I stared back at him, and it was like looking at the person who had replaced Linc while she was under the spell. This person looked like Robin; he sounded like Robin. But he wasn’t Robin.

He simply wasn’t Robin.

It wasn’t even the loving version of him that my spell had created.

I didn’t need to look inside this person’s mind to know that. All I had to do was look in his eyes. His lost, crazed eyes.

Eyes that held no love for me, only obsession. Not an obsession of me, but a need to live out his delusion of whatever he believed his goddess needed or wanted. I wasn’t that goddess anymore. I just couldn’t be.
