The World of Spirit Pets

"So glad you finally woke up, sleepy head. You ready to make your dreams come true today?" A beautiful woman with white hair and a white dress on said to Long San as he woke up from his slumber.

She was extremely beautiful and alluring while Long San with his black hair and rather muscular frame was handsome but nearly as intoxicating. He smiled and turned and watched Mae finish pulling up her white dress.

'She's the leader of the Wingless, and I'm just a corpse cleaner. I can't believe she's in my room right now.'

Long San smiled and accepted Mae's lips one more time before she summoned a small spirit pet by her side. It was a small phoenix that only the most powerful spiritualists could ever hope to own. He watched her turn back and smile at him one more time. Her cheeks parting and revealing every inch of her beauty as her pale body emerged into the sun through the tent flaps.

"Long San, tonight. We'll stay up even later! We can talk, and play games and do other things once again once I'm back in the tent, promise!"

"Be careful today," Long San waved, and reached down to also grab his gear. "I've been getting a bad feeling recently. Are we getting close to the Black Heart Palace's Stronghold?"

"Yes, and after they're dead, we can go on a vacation! I can even help you level up past level 20 you dork." Mae winked and closed the tent flap.

Long San smiled and watched Mae walk out against the side of the tent. He studied her alluring body through her shadow, the curves she couldn't hide even under her white divine robe, and got up himself.

'Alright, Long San, you can do this. Just one more day cleaning up bodies and you get to go home.' Long San stood up and put on his black robe before he turned and looked outside.

Mae, who was still in front of the tent, seemed frozen in space, causing Long San to stare at her in disbelief.

"Silver, come out!" Long San held out his hand before a small spirit pet appeared. It was one of the weakest types of spirit pets, a Silver String Insect, but it still had some use if someone was in danger. "Silver, go protect Mae!"

"Ru! Ru!"

His spirit pet sprouted two wings from its back before it flew towards the tent flap at its greatest speed. It wasn't very powerful, but it was mostly used for defense. It could turn into a shield out of its own silk.

This was what spirit pets did for spiritualists, or the people who controlled them. They lived in spiritualist's spirit cavities, and in exchange provided spirit skills to the user.

They could also be summoned by the spiritualist and attack other spirit pets and humans if they were given a command. However, his Silver String Insect could hardly do any of the above things. It was only useful for him, as a corpse cleaner, to protect himself if falling body parts were raining down around him.

'Mae, why aren't you moving?' Long San walked towards the tent flap as he pulled out a dagger from his satchel. 'Today isn't a funny day to play a game. Not when we're so close to black heart palace's stronghold.'

Swoosh!

Long San felt a fierce breeze before he saw his spirit pet get cut in half. His gut immediately burst with pain before he fell down onto his knees. The pain was so excruciating he could hardly stay conscious. He instantly dropped the knife in his hands before he looked up at Mae.

"Heh, I bet you thought someone else would kill you." A man's shadow appeared in front of Mae. Long SAn could see a white robe on his body which clearly showed he was from a divine sect - the sects that were supposed to be pure and noble and never harm any humans! He watched with blood dripping out of his mouth as he forced himself to stay awake as the man inch closer to Mae. The pain was excruciating, but he couldn't let her die! He had to force himself to a stand! He still had one spirit pet!

"Well, too bad. You shouldn't have fallen in love with a corpse cleaner, slut." The man's shadow stopped right in front of Mae's body before a line of darkness seemed to cut through her shadow. The beautiful head, and the body he'd just gotten to know so well, fell on the floor in two separate pieces.

Long San could only out in disbelief as terror welled up on his countenance. Mae's head rolled and stopped a few inches away from him while the man in the white robe stopped in front of him.

'If only I could look up, I could see his head.' Long San tried to push himself off the floor, but his gut felt like he'd been torn to shreds!

When a spirit pet died that you had in your spirit cavity, it would cause a pain so intense that it could hardly be described in words. Some said that it was like getting an organ removed, but to Long San, it was nothing compared to watching Mae lying in front of him with her eyes staring blankly at him.

"I-I love you" Mae's palling pink lips murmured at Long San while he stared forward into her dimming brown eyes. He tried harder this time to push himself up, but he couldn't move a single inch.

"You-you can't see me can you?" The man in the white divine robe said, hovering over Long San. "I guess that means I don't have to kill you. But I should tell you one thing. Never sleep with a woman like Mae again. You give assassins like us jobs. Here, take my card if you ever need to kill anyone."

The man leaned down and put a card in front of Long San's body while he groveled in pain. Tears were flowing down his eyes. He was going to make them pay! He was going to make everyone in the Tang Dynasty pay!

He could see the mark of their so called noble shield on the side of the damn card the assassin put in front of his face.

They claimed the Black Heart Palace was evil, but at least they didn't accept bids to kill their top elders! He wanted to get up! He wanted to see who took away his love.

'Come on! Move! Please! Let me just see who killed her! Please! Look up body! MOVE!"

"Here, go to sleep. Stop suffering so much over a sultry woman." The assassin slashed Long San in the back of the nape, knocking him out instantly, before he smiled and reached down to pick up Mae's head. "I didn't get paid nearly enough to kill you too, corpse cleaner. May you have the most horrible life."
