1 The Cursed

It was a cold and dark night. The silent but cold wind and the occasional rustling of falling leaves made the night as comforting as it could ever be. However, history was about to happen today. A tragic history. One that no human would ever want to hear. It was this Day. The day that a tragic war began. A war with the most feared and dangerous beings in the universe.....

Somewhere in the world ~~1999

11:50 am...

"Hey, you should stop running now! You know we will definitely catch up to you so why are you trying so desperately?!"

"Shut up! It's only 10 minutes to a new century but you are still treating me like an old rat! Am I your servant? I won't give you anything!"

On one of the busy streets in the capital, two young voices could be heard across the pedestrian walkway disturbing the pedestrians nearby. They continued to shout at themselves as they sprinted across the pedestrian walkway, one trying to get as further as possible and one also tring to get as close as possible. On the walkway, five young boys could be seen chasing a young boy.

The violent wind made the grey, oily hair brush the young boy's shoulders as he continued to run from the group of five.

Kelvin~ the boy who was being chased after, ran as fast as he could trashing items to the ground to hinder the boys from chasing him as he ran to the city's center.

The young boys behind him were no exception. Even though they didn't trash items to the floor, they made sure to destroy any item Kelvin trashed on the floor, making a mess on the pedestrian walkway as they chased him.

*BANG*

Kelvin continued to run very fast, turning his head back once in a while to check if the distance between them had increased. However, the distance didn't seem to increase at all, they were also trying as hard as they could to reach him. He realized something... they were closing in.

Turning his head once again to check the distance, kelvin failed to notice a banana peel on the ground.

"Ah, come on!",

A loud shout was heard as Kelvin tripped over and fell as he was running somersaulting in the air as a result.

"Crap!", Kelvin muttered as he looked at the boys who were coming at him whiles easing their fists. He knew he was definitely in trouble this time.

"I told you we were going to catch you. Where did you get that confidence from? Do you think you can outrun us? Hahaha!", the young boy laughed eerily and said with a hoarse voice that didn't look like one of a child's at all, as he held kelvin who fell by the collar and raised him.

"Hahahaha!", the group following the tyrannical young boy also burst out laughing.

"Look at you! You are too scared to even talk! A coward. You are a total coward!", the young boy, seemingly the group's leader continued to tease Kelvin.

'Damn it! I am not a coward! There is no way I am going to give my money to him!', Kelvin thought decisively as he clenched his fist. Since they were entering a new decade, he had decided to change. He would no longer be the person everyone knew as a coward!

He looked into the eye of the boy currently holding him by the collar and said to him," Steve! There is no way I will give you my money today! You should just forget about it".

However, he immediately realized that he had made a big mistake.

"That isn't your decision to make, you damn idiot!", Steve said angrily as he tossed the Kelvin to the floor. He didn't understand why this guy was so persistent even though he was scared.

"Let's give him a beating to remind him of who we are! Beat him up!", Steve said to the boys behind him.

*Crack, Crack*

Soft cracking sounds came from their fists as they made their way towards Kelvin, leaving him in panic. However, the leading person abruptly stopped.

"What is going on there?", the young boy said with a confused look, as he pointed to the skyscraper behind Kelvin. Everyone then turned their heads toward where he was pointing.

Just across the street, stood a huge skyscraper. The building was tall, about twenty floors and about two hundred meters in length.

"What are you talking about? I don't see it!", a young boy, said with a confused look on his face.

"Look carefully", the young boy who previously pointed to the skyscraper said as he pointed at the very peak of the skyscraper.

Looking carefully, they could see the space above the skyscraper twisting and turning strangely while making violent sparks. As Kelvin also squinted his eyes, he coldnt help but be shocked at what he was seeing. However, he was more amazed by the fact that Drax, the boy who pointed that out could actually see from this level. He indeed had good eye sight.

"Huh? What is going on? Is it the rapture?", one of their boy asked with fear written all over his face? The phenomenon was too strange and mysterious. One that they had never encountered before, hence, his panic and confusion.

"No, I don't think so. Maybe it's a storm.", Steve said in a normal tone also squinting his eyes to see what was happening.

Yet soon enough, the violent sparks began to act more violent and dangerous. Seeing this, Steve's clear eyes couldn't help but reveal a panicking look. However, that look disappeared right after it appeared and only Kelvin noticed it.

*SWISH!~~"

With a huge swish, a large wormhole appeared as the space above the sky scrapper began to crack, revealing strange marks in the sky.

"What was that?"

"Wait..."

Before they could even react, a large object shot out from the wormhole. The object looked like a huge rock, however, the lights around it showed that the falling object was no piece of rock!

"Wait! What is that huge thing falling from the sky? Is it a stone?", the other young boy who was following Steve said in surprise as he looked at the object which was releasing light falling from the sky.

"I can't see it well. However, I can tell that it is very big!", Steve said.

"Steve, I think we should go home!", one of Steve's followers said.

"Yeah, I think we should go home. It is not safe out here!", Steve's other followers also began to earnestly urge Steve to go home.

"Drax, When Did you become a coward? Are you telling me that you are simply scared of the change in the weather? I can't believe this!", Steve said as he looked at the boy who spoke to urge him to leave first. "No! No! No! I just want to go home. I have an extremey nervous feeling about this", the boy started to plead.

However, his pleas fell on deaf ears and soon...

*BANG!*

A loud sound was heard as the large object hit the ground just in front of Steve. The collision produced a lot of dust. Which in turn, rendered their sense of vision useless.

"Ha! Now follow me. If you are not a coward!", Steve said as he began to walk towards the large object that fell from the sky.

"Em Steve!", Kelvin called Steve, fear shown in his hollow blue eyes.

"Yes?", Steve answered in an angry tone.

"I think you should stop this so that we can go home!", Kelvin said.

"When did trash like you begin to talk to me", Steve said arrogantly as he continued his steps. He couldn't even believe his eyes. He never knew someone could be so dumb, at least he should have run away when he had the chance, but not only did he wait around, he decided to call out to him.

After a few steps, he turned and looked at Travis with a wicked smile on his face. "I will deal with you later!", he said as he continued to walk towards the location where the object fell. His steps were bold and precise, every step sent him closer to his target.

However, after walking for some time, He stopped. His body began to violently shake and an expression of terror emerged on his face.

He gradually lifted his hands and pointed at the place where the large object was supposed to have fallen whiles stuttering,

" Wha, Wha, What is that?" At this moment, the dust had already settled and they were able to see everything clearly.

When the other four boys saw what Steve pointed at, they began to also shake violently and like Steve, their facial expressions changed to one of terror and fear. It was a natural one. A fear that originated from deep in their being.

What they saw was something that you could only describe with one word. A Monster.

******

After the first incident with these monsters, daily reports of strange wormholes appearing out of the blue began spreading across the world. The strange and scary appearance of monsters who appear out of the blue led humanity into chaos and to the brink of extinction.

The guns and bombs from the military were totally useless against the monsters since their skins were too strong to be penetrated by a bullet. Humans were nearly driven to the brink of extinction and were forced to hide and co-exist together in cities surrounded by huge walls. However ten years later after the first arrival of the cursed, a new light showed at the end of the tunnel. A miracle happened.

Yes, a miracle. Children with superpowers were born and about forty per cent of all the humans on earth gained superpowers. As for the remaining sixty per cent, there were left out. They were weak and unprotected. The arrival of these new humans with superpowers, who were later given the name Mages helped humanity to regain some of their stolen dignity as the strongest and smartest race on earth. Bringing back humanity's pride!

Or at least that is what they thought...
