1 The Leveling Sword

Benjamin Peterson, a 19 year old man who has finally moved out of his parents home. Today was the day he had to choose his job. Everyone in this world has to choose a job on their 19th birthday and leave their parents home. Ben's parents were both tailors, they lived in a small village but were renowned throughout the region for the mastery of their craft. Ben's parents wanted him to continue the family tradition and become a tailor as well, but he had dreams of his own that he needed to see through. He wanted to become a world renowned adventurer! He wanted his name to go down in history books as the strongest man to ever exist!

This leads us to today. Today he is going to the adventurers guild to register his name. It is a relatively easy process, you write your name on a piece of paper and one of the mages checks your class and magic affinity! There were 6 classes that you could be registered as right off the bat: Swordsman, Thief, Archer, Mage, Tank, Beserker! The swordsman is the most common class and nobody really wanted to become one. The thief was a class that everyone wanted to get because of the special skills that come along with it. People who preferred to keep distance chose archer, people who wanted to be at the frontlines and keeping their allies safe would choose tank. Berserker was a class that had a high damage output but gave some unwanted personality traits. To be a mage you have to have a very high magic affinity, making it the rarest class.

Ben has registered his name and is getting his affinity checked out. 'Ding' The paper that had Ben's information on it had another word put on there right on the line of his class. "Swordsman" is what it read. Ben let out an annoyed sigh as the lady mage who measured him read it to him. "Alright then, a swordsman is your new class! You have decent magic affinity but not enough to become a mage sadly." Ben just nodded as she spoke to him. He was listening to every word carefully as every piece of information he could get on himself could be helpful in the future. "Now you can choose you're sword! We have 4 choices at this guild office so sorry for the lackluster range! We have a fire sword, which will set all enemies you cut on fire! We have a pure magic sword which will allow you to use your magic affinity to cast all sorts of spells, we have an evolving sword which will evolve as you kill more enemies. This sword also takes on the abilities and some traits of the things you kill! Lastly we have The Leveling Sword, this sword will level up alongside you as an adventurer!"

Ben liked the options he was given and ultimately decided upon the evolving sword as it was used by all of the strongest swordsman. When he told the mage his choice she smiled and went into a room behind the front desk. Ben stood there waiting for her to come out for a couple minutes before she returned with a frown on her face. "I'm sorry sir, but it seems that we have received and order from a noble family for all of the swords we have, all except the leveling ones." Ben was about to get upset with her until he realized that she seemed genuinely sad about it as well. Ben was still disappointed that he couldn't get the sword he wanted, if it was the other swords he would've been fine with it but he had to get stuck with the weakest sword...The Leveling Sword.

The mage bowed towards ben and handed him The Leveling Sword. Ben smiled as he took the sword into his own hands and as he did so a strange amount of info was shot into his mind.

[Leveling Sword]

'Levels up alongside wielder, greatest potential among swords...if you tell anyone about the sword you will DIE!'

'Why does the sword say that?' Ben thought to himself. He didn't know whether to take the words he just read in his own mind seriously, but he felt a strange presence with him that was strangely malicious so he decided not to take any chances with it. Ben bowed at the mage and left the guild hall. The sword had very strange markings along its blade that drew Ben's attention. When he tried to understand what they said another strange message shot into his head.

[Leveling Sword]

Level:1

Damage: 4

Dexterity: 14

Speed: 20

Level up boost: 25%

Ben read the info with great interest. The sword had an abnormal amount of Dexterity and Speed for just a starter sword! He had heard that most starter swords have 4 Dexterity and about 8 Speed. His damage on the other hand was abnormal in the other way. Most swords had 15 Damage while he had just 4. 'How weak is this sword anyway! A common kitchen knife does more damage than this.'

Ben was making his way through town and was planning on heading outside to train a little bit before he took any quests or joined a party but now he was second guessing what he should do first. The people on the street were watching Ben with curious eyes as the could recognize the sword he had in his hands. Most were amused by the fact that he had the weakest sword possible while some even tried confronting him about it.

"Nice sword you got there, want to fight my little sisters teddy bear?" One boy said. "I bet you couldn't even kill a simple slime with that wimpy thing!' another said. The berating and belittling of him and his sword made Ben angry but he chose to remain silent knowing that they were all telling the truth. Even though Ben was choosing to hold back from violence he couldn't help but feel the same malicious energy from before...but this time it was stronger. Not knowing if he was being followed by some evil powerhouse of a man he started running towards the hunting grounds just outside the village. Seeing him run, most of the people who confronted him started laughing heartily as they thought that they had made him upset and was running from them. Little did they know he wasn't running from them but from something far worse...himself.

Not even Ben knew what he was running from! It seemed that no matter how fast he ran, the presence seemed to follow him very closely. When he finally left the village walls and entered the hunting grounds he found a large boulder that he could hide behind and hopefully escape this unknown perpetrator. Hiding behind the boulder he waited for what seemed like hours but was only mere minutes. The presence finally left him alone and he felt safe again. Stepping out from behind the boulder he spotted a small slime. They are known as one of the weakest enemies you can find and can be taken out with a single hit from most weapons.

Ben wanted to try out his new weapon although he didn't expect much. Slimes have 12 hp which is usually enough for 1 hit from any sword, but with his sword it would take 3 swings. Ben ran at the slime and belted a mighty war cry. He swung his sword at the slime and got a clean hit. 'Four hp down, eight to go' Ben thought to himself as he readied himself for another attack. This time he wanted to see the difference that the Speed stat gave him over the others. He charged once more this time he swung the sword twice. The two swings happened in exactly one second causing Ben to come to the conclusion that 10 Speed is equal to one strike per second.
