The Leper King's Healer

After a tragic accident that sent her back 845 years in time to the year 1177, in the Middle Ages, during the reign of Baldwin IV of Jerusalem, Kate Mitchell, a wealthy business tycoon in the pharmaceutical industry, a gifted ex-military, a pharmacologist and botanist, and a brilliant archer from 2022, wakes up as Lady Philippa, a pretty, innocent, frail, and proper young lady of House Antioch, with whom she shares nothing in common. She realised she had died on that day, and her soul travels back in time and takes over the body of Philippa, a helpless lady who would face tragedy, betrayal, and scandal before dying young and heartbroken. She chose to live as Philippa because she had a second chance at life and only one goal in mind: to live and survive at any cost. To succeed, she must thrive and learn to live in the Medieval era, where nothing is common for her, and, above all, she must avoid an arranged marriage, which will doom Phillipa to death after a terrible heartbreak. Lady Philippa, unfortunately, is about to be engaged to an unknown man, and she must devise a plan to prevent this from happening. Kate's background as an ex-military officer, pharmacologist, and botanist, as well as her limited knowledge of history, will be invaluable in surviving the historical mediaeval times when modern technology was out of reach. However, she requires the assistance of the reigning king, Baldwin IV, who is suffering from leprosy at the time. She'll have to take control of the situation. It is up to Kate's bravery and intelligence to find a way to persuade Baldwin IV to help her, and she has few options other than joining his royal court. Will the king accept her, or will she perish as the body's original owner? Will she be able to change her destiny? Alternatively, will she be able to find the love and family she seeks?

Prologue

"It hurts..."

My body aches... I'm unable to move... My body was crushed by rubble piles, making it difficult to breathe.

My throat feels dry, so I can't scream for help. My body feels numb, yet I can still smell my own blood...

I can hear screams and an ambulance siren...

My perceptions are fading... Is this how I'm going to die? I haven't accomplished anything yet... I just want to start a family... god... I don't want to die just yet. only not just yet...

Life is fascinating; you will realise something significant as your life flashes back to the end. That everything you've worked for and accomplished pales in comparison to the important things you've ignored or rejected. It's strange how you begin to beg and plead for another chance in life.

My name was Kate Mitchell, and I am a successful businesswoman who owns a large company called Mitchell Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics, which is well-known throughout the United Kingdom. As the world's youngest pharmacologist and botanist, I've received numerous awards and made numerous contributions to science, earning the title of "the next Gertrude Elion."

But I was about to die. Bitter and alone.

My life is lonely, no matter how successful I am. I grew up without a so-called family because my mother died when I was nine years old and I never met my father. I grew up in a foster home until I realised that you have to stand up for yourself.

When I was 19, I joined the army and worked my way up. I studied and studied to become a pharmacologist and founded my own family, my company. I had everything I could ever want: fame, money, and the admiration of many. But it wouldn't last....I thought I had everything I ever wanted, that I didn't need a family to come home to because I was used to being alone.

I spend all of my time at work and travelling; I rarely come home because no one except my maids and employee is waiting for me. I was at the top of my game, and I dated several guys, but nothing came of it because I don't like the idea of committing to a relationship.

Then, one day after breaking up with my three-month relationship, I travel to Jerusalem for an annual conference for world-renowned pharmacologists; it would have been the pinnacle of my career, but unforeseen circumstances occur. A deadly earthquake strikes Jerusalem, and I will not survive; I only wish, with regret, that I could have a real family to mourn my death, or even someone who loves me for me...

Until everything went completely black....
