The Legend of Black Eyes

Planet Hera, shunned by the gods, suffers from constant wars. Bloodshed and conflict rule the four continents. Bandits lurk in the shadows, ready to ambush the weak and defenceless. Sinister beasts roam the desolate lands and forgotten forests. Zedd Darkstar has lost everything, his family, his beloved, and even his own identity. He cheated death only to have legendary mages and powerful deities chase after him. They threw him in Nowhere, a place neither here nor there. Nothing existed in the abyss. Even time had no effect in Nowhere. Just as Zedd thought he’d spend an eternity surrounded by the everlasting darkness, a magnificent creature appeared before him. “What are you?” he had asked. “I am you divine blessing, and your worst nightmare.” “What do you want from me?” “Would you like to cheat death one more time?” ------ Chapter Length: 1.2k - 1.5k ------ This is a work in progress. I am currently in the process of editing my first chapters to make them more immersive, thus more fun and enjoyable. ----- There is magic in the world, but it's dictated by rules that you get to explore during the story. There are no levels or infinite grinding. The story focuses more on the MC using his head, and the powers available to him, to get out of tough situations. ------ This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, places, events, locales, and incidents are either the products of the author’s imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.

Listener

The Listener in the jar scared Heda out of her wits. I could see it in her eyes, and the way her shoulders trembled. Friede had long turned her head away from the jar. Twice already, she had run toward an empty corner of the lab and retched. Sylens stood a fair distance away from us, frowning.

As for me, my mind had simply stopped working. I stared at Heda blankly. The word Listener had haunted me for years. Upon hearing Heda utter the words, memories flooded my mind. The anguish and horror I experienced were the things that stood out the most.

And so, I stared at Heda, living through those emotions without really going through my memories. I felt sharp needles piercing my heart. With every breath I took, I felt the pain intensify. Faces of the people I cared for long ago zoomed past my eye.

I recognized their dead eyes, staring at me. I could hear their silent cry: "Why?" They would all scream as their faces materialized before me. "Why?"
