1 Laziness interrupted.

"Haaaaaa" I sighed out as I laid on the roof of my house looking up at the stars. Hmmm, maybe I should finally start The Beginning After The End? Nah I think I'll just watch Naruto again. Even though I think that I still don't move from my spot on the roof. It would take a little bit of effort after all to move from this comfortable spot. The shingles were warm from when the sun had shone on them, contrasting nicely with the now cool night air.

I noticed one of the many stars was slowly getting bigger and I thought to grab my phone and record it, but sighed as I remembered I left in on my bed. So I just kept watching the star slowly get bigger and bigger, a flaming trail flying behind it. Surely this so called star wouldn't land directly where I'm at, out of all the places on Earth.

It steadily grew bigger and I thought to move, but then I thought of the effort that that would take. Then the monotony of high school entered my mind, with the tests and daily lessons. Having to get up everyday and look presentable to society standards or I suppose specifically the schools. Uniforms are such a pain.

So instead of moving I just close my eyes. After all if some random object flew all the way from space to hit exactly this spot then surely that meant that it was my time to go. I felt the surroundings grow warmer and a low hum briefly entered my ears before nothing. I opened my eyes to find myself no longer on my roof but seated across from an old man with a name tag that read "ROB".

"Finally. Okay Mr. ROB take me to the afterlife where I can laze around all I want with nothing to bother me." I spoke with a small smile finding its way to my lips as my eyes dropped with tiredness as I looked at the man across from me. Only he frowned and tilted his head slightly.

"That simply won't do. No, I believe I'll send you to the world of the book that you have been putting off for months now. You didn't do enough on Earth to deserve the afterlife quite yet." I wanted to shout back at the unfairness, I had lived for 16 years. That had to be enough time to get into whatever afterlife there was. I didn't want to start all over again especially not in a world that I had no idea about. That sounded troublesome.

But I couldn't find the energy within myself to argue and just let out a big sigh.

"Haaaaaa, very well. Do I at least get some wishes or something?" I asked with a small bit of hopefulness and when he smiled I thought I was in luck. Key word, thought.

"Nope, and good luck!" ROB said cheerfully and this time even with my waning motivation and energy I found myself letting out an indignant yell only to now see myself being held in the air of a medieval bedroom.

"Congratulations Mr. Mrs. Leywin a healthy baby boy! Here comes the other, here Reynolds hold your son." The man who was holding me passed me to another pair of arms and the owner of them looked down at me with sparkling eyes.

"He has my hair!" The voice boomed, but was only met by the pained screams of the woman who must be my mother. I only remember the name of the main character being Arthur Leywin as I only read the synopsis.

"Another healthy baby boy! Congratulations once again!" The elderly man called once again and I looked over to see the baby form of my now twin brother Arthur. Or wait would they name me Arthur now that I was the first born? I don't particularly mind the name, but it would feel quite strange to have that name.

"What are we going to name them, Alice?" The man holding me asked softly to the panting and sweating form of the woman I now knew was my mother Alice. She looked down at the bundle in her arms and then up to me and she smiled brightly, but tiredly the entire time.

"The one you're holding has your hair, so we'll name him Rhys, and this one will be named Arthur." She said lovingly and the man holding me came close and placed me into the crook of her free arm across from my twin. He knelt down beside the bed and gazed down at the 3 of us with an excited look on his face.

"Two boys, Reynolds. Did you plan this?" Alice half heartedly glared at Reynolds, but I didn't look for his reaction I was currently staring at Arthur who was looking around in confusion. Yep, welcome to your new life little brother. I yawned widely and snuggled deeper into the warmth before drifting off to sleep.

[2 years later]

These past couple of years have strangely been amazing. I had dreaded the thought of being a baby again and actually having to live through it. Though despite the embarrassment that comes with not being able to control your bowels I rather enjoyed my time. I could lay around all day, I was carried everywhere and I could generally laze around as if I was a spoiled cat.

There was a window that shown sunlight on the floor at the same time each day for only a couple hours and it made for the perfect napping place. Surprisingly I wasn't completely idle either though. Being someone who would lay with nothing distracting me or occupying my mind, I noticed the mana immediately.

While resting I would see these little bits of lights that I hadn't seen before and if I focused on them they would move. I wasn't quite sure what they were for at first, at least until I found Arthur reading a book one day and realized it was mana. What a great world, I could laze around all day and still get stronger. All I had to do was pull my mana to a place just above my stomach.

That's how I spent those 2 years, lazing around and enjoying my life while still progressing forth in the ways of this world. Mother thought the way I acted was cute, but dad was a little miffed that only one of his sons seemed to be adventurous. After all Arthur was my complete opposite, he crawled anywhere and everywhere he could.

Turns out while he got mom's hair and dad's eyes I got the opposite. Meaning I got the dull combination of ashen brown hair and brown eyes, which I suppose was fine. Attractive people tend to stick out and at least I'll have dear brother to sweep any unwanted attention away from me.

I think I'm getting close to forming my core, maybe only a couple more months. The book Arthur reads said something about a force being expelled when a mage awakens, so I should probably journey outside before I form my core. That's still a ways away anyways.

[Few months later]

It was time, I could tell my core was ready to be formed and I could tell Arthur was the same. I'm sure he had his suspicions about me as well, we both seem to be rather sensitive to mana. We both read in the book that most mages form their core around 12 years old, so it was bound to look strange that we were about to form our cores.

"Arthur." I called with a lazy expression on my face, Arthur looked up from his meditating stance with curiosity. I couldn't blame him as I almost never initiated conversations with him.

"What is it Rhys?" He asked with a small tilt of his head and I let out a sigh before continuing.

"Haaa, we should go outside before we form our cores." I resisted the urge to sigh even louder when he asked another question.

"Why would we do that?" Arthur asked with the same tilt of his head as he looked at me questioningly.

"Because of what the book said. We'll break something inside the house, but outside it would be fine." I could already feel my voice beginning to grow hoarse from speaking so much. I usually kept my conversations to as short of a sentence as possible, but I felt this was a little different. Arthur sat there in contemplation before finally looking back up to me.

"You're like me… aren't you?" I actually laughed at this.

"Hah! No Arthur, we're complete opposites." He frowned at me before continuing.

"No, I mean you're reincarnated as well." He said seriously and I showed disinterest in the topic.

"So?" I asked and he looked amazed, causing me to let out a little chuckle.

"You're not denying it?" He asked, his eyes still wide as if he didn't expect me to answer honestly.

"Why would I? It would take too much energy to deny it when you already have figured it out." I shrugged and laid back down on the ground and stretched. I rocked back up into a sitting position and looked Arthur up and down.

"Looks like you're ready, let's make our way outside and form our cores." I said and lazily stood up on unsteady legs. I would need to at least work out a little I suppose, this world doesn't have cars or bikes for transportation. My future legs groaned in protest at the knowledge of how much I'll have to walk. So much so that faint bits of tears welled in my eyes.

"What's wrong, Rhys?!" Arthur called in alarm as he stood and put a hand on my shoulder with a deeply sympathetic look in his eye.

"Oh Arthur it's terrible. I just thought of how much walking I'll have to do when I get older." I draped myself onto his right shoulder and heard a snort come from him and a small laugh.

"Hahaha, come on Rhys. Maybe you'll be able to use your magic to move you." Arthur tried to cheer me up, but I just shook my arm as we began walking to the door, my arm still slung over his shoulder as if I had a hurt leg.

"You're way too optimistic Arthur. With my luck I'll be an augmenter like dad!" I cried in anguish at the possibility. Arthur just patted a hand on my shoulder.

"At least you'll be able to supplement your body with mana to make it easier." He tried to appease me, but I didn't even register it as I thought of all the things a lazy person like me will miss. We finally made it outside and I felt refreshed by the sun and the gentle breeze. I saw a nice open spot with nothing around, but small bushes and nodded my head.

"There, Arthur." I pointed to the open spot and Arthur nodded and we made our way there. We sat down side by side and I had a thought.

"Hey, Arthur?" He turns to look at me.

"What?" He asks and look up into the sky.

"Is it going to hurt when we form our cores? Like each other I mean?" Realization seemed to dawn on him and he nodded.

"You're right, we should separate a good distance just in case." I nodded sagely and flopped onto my back.

"I agree, you should definitely move away. I would hate to injure you in my awakening." I saw the glare he sent me, but he did a sigh that even made me want to give him a thumbs up and he walked a good 20 feet away.

"Alright let's begin." Arthur said and I gave a barely perceptible nod as I began pulling in the last pieces of mana to my core. When Arthur formed his core it caused an expulsion of energy as translucent barrier formed around him and sent debris flying with a boom. Mine was different, the ground caved around me slightly and mana whirled around me like a vacuum. I was a conjurer and Arthur an augmenter.

The area was completely destroyed and if we had been sitting closer there would have been some kind of damage to each other. Or maybe the translucent barrier that surrounded us would have protected us from each other, but it's too late to test that anyways. I was broken from my thoughts by the screams of 2 people, our parents.

""Arthur! Rhys!"" They both shouted as they ran towards the destructive scene and I just sat up with a yawn and stretch. Arthur was walking toward them as if he was coolest kid on the block. Our father dropped to his knees when he saw us and laughed nervously with wide eyes.

"You've got to be kidding me… They're not even 3 yet…" Reynolds mutters, but shakes it off as he rushes forward and gathers us up into a big family hug. I was limp like a rag doll as I was being smushed against Arthur in our father's embrace.

"My boys are geniuses! Awakened before they even turned 3!" Reynolds yelled with happy man tears in his eyes as he looked up to the sky, but I was too worried with trying to take another breath. Thankfully mother saved us by pulling us into a hug of her own which thankfully while firm wasn't bone crushing.

"I'm just glad you're both alright." She muttered out as she squeezed tightly one last time before pulling back and we observed the damage.

"Well at least they weren't in the house." Reynolds chuckled nervously and Alice just nodded. I crawled up into her arms and fell asleep, today had been way more effort than I ever wanted to have to put forth in this world. I just couldn't help but lament the fact that this probably wouldn't be the last.

First chapter done.

Does anyone know how Arthur knew he could use all the elements? I doubt anyone is going to see this quick enough to answer, so I'll probably just have Rhys find out by looking at his core. Noticing what he has while meditating or something.

Also I'm somewhat basing Rhys off of the character in the cover art, Ikta Solork from Alderamin in the Sky as well as Shikamaru. The lazy unmotivated types, but really smart and strategists. Highly recommend Alderamin in the Sky if you like these types of characters like me. Also there's a light novel called "The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt" it's another series that inspired me to write this kind of character.

Love the lazy genius character types.

Anyways spoiler: Rhys won't be falling down the cliff with Arthur. See ya next chapter.
