1 Just a weakling...

Loki was running from school back to his apartment, his bullies right behind him, laughing at him as he ran. He ran into his house, slamming the door. 'Just wait for a couple more hours,' he thought to himself.

It had always been like this for him. His mother had been an alcoholic, and his father was an abusive piece of shit. When he was 8, they had been caught and put into life imprisonment for child abuse and neglect. Loki no longer had to suffer from them, but without any parents, he couldn't really do anything.

The government provided a basic apartment that was basically a tiny bedroom, only fitting a small bed and a desk and chair, as well as 3 very basic meals per day. There was a small bathroom across the hall where other low-Ability users stayed. He got 5 credits a week, which even if he saved up for a year, would be barely enough to buy one of the weakest sorts of Ability stone. The government didn't care about weak level 1 like him. There were thousands of weak or no-Ability people, but all of them combined wouldn't be able to stand against an elite squad of high-ranked Ability users. The only reason the government didn't get rid of all the weak was that the higher-ups wanted someone to lick their shoes and beg for scraps, all helpless and begging for their mercy.

Years ago, aliens who looked just like humans, but had powers, invaded Earth. They took over the world, dominating the world and giving out something called Ability stone, which were stones that could give you an ability. Since everyone could only have 1 type of ability, you should choose your Ability stone wisely. Since the Originals (the original magical aliens) were not able to reproduce easily, they gave out the Ability stone so that their magic wouldn't die. After they started to die out, the high-ranking officers stop giving out free Ability stones, selling some but keeping the best ones for themselves. Now, wherever you went, you were judged by your power. For majors, you had to be at least a Level 15 to get a decent job and be treated like a human. For minors (not babies), if you were anything in between Level 5- Level 19, you were considered to be average. Anything above was powerful, and anything below was weak. Loki was a Level 1.0, which was basically the weakest of all.

Loki gritted his teeth as he looked at the clock. When it chimed 12, he sprang up and ran to his desk where he had put his bag. Opening it, he pulled out a strange book that title read 'System'. When he was younger, he had found a book with a strange symbol. He had tried opening it, to no avail. He had done some research and found that the symbol was of one of the most powerful Original families that had never shared their abilities. He had found that he also shared a bloodline with that Original family. He had kept it a secret because if people knew a weakling like him was from a powerful Original family, he would be bullied much worse than it was now. He had found out that all the Originals of that family unlocked their power at 16, so he waited fervently for the day he turned 16.

Since it had struck 12, it was officially his birthday. He (finally) managed to open the book, but the pages were blank. Loki was disappointed. He had hoped that some amazing Ability would have been gifted to him and he would become powerful. As he reached forward to close the book, the pages started to glow. Loki stared, entranced before he tried to move away, but the glow seemed to be making him feel so heavy. Loki's eyes closed, and his body fell to the ground.
