A Trip to the Infirmary: A New Magical Item?

As they walked, Loki chided Daphne. "Why did you have to make such a big fuss? You know that Saltavore has been to Weapons class yesterday, and his family is known for fighting." Daphne laughed. "Yeah, I should have seen it coming. Doesn't matter though. I showed them up in front of the whole school." "Yes, and that's the problem! The higher-ups would probably take notice of us now!" "You mean to take more notice of us," Daphne said. "Didn't you see the way Ada was staring at our group? I don't think she liked us." "You think? An Original got a Level 1 and an Ability-less student refused an Ability book under her watch. I'd be surprised if she did like us."

Loki opened the door to the infirmary. An old-looking lady was sitting on a bed. "Oh dear," she sighed. "Injured on the third day here? I already had to send off another two boys." They were singed quite badly." Daphne grinned. "Those electric burns were courtesy of me." The old lady signed. "Kids these days. Call me Matron. Sit down here, girl. I'll heal your arm." Daphne set on a bed as Matron held her hands (which had started to glow), over Daphne's wound. The wound started to close up. Loki was surprised, and quickly checked Matron's power.

[Name: Adelaine Anderson]

[Race: Human]

[5/5 Hp]

[Ability: Healer]

[She is able to heal herself or others with her Ability]

"Would you happen to be related to Ada, by any chance?" Loki asked.

Matron looked surprised. "How did you know I was related to Ada?"

Daphne was also staring at him questioningly. "I had a gut feeling," Loki lied.

Matron shrugged. "Yes, I'm her cousin. I don't really care much about her or anyone else, but I get good pay, good food, and good accommodations here so I work in this infirmary."

Daphne giggled slightly. "You don't think much of anyone, huh?" "Not really," Matron said. "There. You're all healed up." The wound on Daphne's arm had closed up, and all that was left of it was a white line where the scar once was. "It'll disappear in a few days," Matron said, getting up. She walked over to a table where various plants were. "Go back to your class. Here, I'll give you a pass." She handed Loki a pass as Daphne stood up. "Daphne?" Loki asked, staring at a plant. It was a bright blue plant dotted with green, unlike any that Daphne had ever seen before.

"It's a Flip Venom. It's actually pretty common in the market as it can be collected from the friendlier elven worlds. If you crush its leaves, it will let out a sap that is poisonous, but if you crush the stem, it lets out a sap that can heal poison."

"Wow," Loki said. "Where did you learn that?" "Beast-ology," Matron answered. "Once you have a good grip on beasts and their worlds, it will start to split into elven and ghoulish worlds, and the magical artifacts or herbs you can find there, as well as their properties. Do you want it? I have plenty, so I could give you one if you like."

"That's really nice of you!" Daphne said happily. Matron handed Loki the Flip Venom. "This is so that you'll leave me alone and stop making my job harder. Be careful, it's fragile. Now go to your classes, you little rascals!"

Loki and Daphne giggled, scrambling out of the infirmary. As they walked to class, Loki stared at the Flip Venom and wondered, 'Can I Inspect a magical plant?"

[Name: Flip Venom]

[Species: Elven plants]

[Abilities: Poison, Purify]

[It is able to produce poisonous sap from its leaves, and purifying sap from its stem]

As Loki stared at the plant, Daphne suddenly turned to him. "Loki?" "Yeah?" "You were lying about not having an Ability, right?" "W-what?" Loki stammered, his head flying up and looking at Daphne's inquisitive eyes. "The cape I bought for you, I haven't seen it anywhere, and there has been no rumor of such a high-tier gear being found, taken, or destroyed. Is your Ability something to do with storage? Is that why you can keep things hidden so well? Terrence also said that you sold the Earth Ability book, but you don't have any credits on your wristwatch, and I don't think you've used any. Is there a reason why you don't trust us enough with your secret?"

Daphne paused for breath. Loki stared for a moment, realizing just then how sharp Daphne was, and how he had to be more careful around her.

"No, my Ability isn't storage."

"But you do have an Ability?"

Loki sighed. "Sort of. I can't tell you right now. I promise I'll tell you and the rest someday, okay? I just... have to figure out some stuff to do with my sort of Ability."

Daphne smiled. "Okay! And I promise that I won't tell anyone about your secret until you decide to tell me and our friends."

Loki let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks, Daphne. Now we really should hurry. The pass that Matron gave us can only excuse us for so long."

The two of them ran off to class when meanwhile...

{In the teacher's lounge}

"A Level 1 WHAT?!" A yell made everyone in the room wince. Mr. Bradford, the headteacher of the year 1 students, was pacing angrily. "How could this happen? And the Level 1 attacked a Zane and a Powell?" Mr. Smith spoke up timidly. "Their families are blaming us for their injuries, but we're soothing them now." "Who is this first year?" Mr. Bradford growled. "Teach them a lesson and make sure they don't do this again."

Ada stood up. "I'm afraid we can't, sir. This Level 1 is a pureblood Original and the future heir of House Phoenix. We can't do much anything to her." "Are you telling me," Mr. Bradford said slowly. "Are you telling me that a pureblood Original got a ranking of Level 1?" Ada didn't waver under his gaze. "I believe that she flunked the separation test on purpose, sir. She has been known to be a low-level lover, and she was hanging out with other low-levels before the separation test. Per our own rules, we cannot take her out of Level 1 until the next separation test because if we do, there will be many complaints from high-level families."

"Well," Mr. Simon said. "You did say that Level 1 was allowed to challenge higher levels." "That was just to mock them," Mr. Bradford said impatiently. "There wasn't supposed to be such a powerful first year!" "But-" "Simon, shut up," Mr. Smith growled. "You've been hanging out with Mr. Crowley too much. Just because he doesn't care for our ways and encourage low-levels and high-levels alike, doesn't mean you should as well. You already know that as the high-ranked teachers, we have all the comfort, and those trash should be licking our feet." "I'm not saying I like this any more than you do," Mr. Simon said annoyedly. "I'm just saying that we already announced the rule, and even if we're the ones who made it, we can't take it back now. All we can do is find a way to bring the girl up to her level."

"Ada," Mr. Bradford said. "Yes, sir?" "I want you to find a way to make the Original girl's family insist on her level going up, as well as crush the Ability-less boy, and twins that Daphne hangs out with, and show them their place, in the world. Which, I would like to remind you, is them begging for our help, and not them finding their own way in the world." "Understood, sir," Ada had a cruel smirk on her face. "In fact, a plan is already underway."

So, if your wondering why I didn't say Ava was going to be crushed, it is because even though she isn't rich, her Ability is pretty powerful. I hope you guys enjoyed a little insight on the conspiration that happens within the teachers. Please comment and let me know if you guys would like me to add in more scenes where Ada is scheming.
