1 Just an average day

A voice belts out, "IN THIS WORLD THERE IS REAL AND MAKE BELIEVE."

She doesn't have the best voice but it's hers. She sits on her unmade messy bed jotting down notes. She is giving her best friend Joey away at his wedding and he and his soon to be husband asked her to read a poem. Her phone rings, "Yellow," she answers smiling.

A deep male chuckle answers, "Red, Red Ruby Lee."

Giggling Ruby sets her notes aside, "Joey are you ready for the big day?"

Joey's voice holds some nervous tension, "I think so. I love Beau more than anything."

Ruby smiled and remembered a time when she and Joey were kids.

She was a shy bookish girl. 5'7 from the time she was 10 years old she was never petite. Joey was always the smart good looking jock. Had things been different they would have never met. Ruby Lee was the daughter of the local hippie and Joey a son of the local wolf pack.

In their Midwestern town you didn't talk paranormal anything. It was the secret everyone knew, but never acknowledged. Ruby's mother was a healer who tended the pack when they needed healing. Her mother died when she was 12 years old. The pack alpha asked Joey's parents to take her in. So, she became Joey's sister.

At first he hated the idea. The whole what would the kids at school say. His father pulled him aside and said, "Ruby is pack now. If anyone says shit YOU defend her."

Ruby laid low and didn't make trouble. One day though, trouble came.

Some boys decided that Ruby should have to pay to walk home alone. She couldn't get away. She stealed herself ready to fight when she heard Joey yell.

She never expected him to help. He never thought she fight along with him. In the end the two manged to fight off the thugs. Joey's parents were proud of both after they heard the whole story. After that they just clicked.

"I am really happy for you." Ruby said.

Joey's voice cracked, "Don't be sad Ru. You'll find yours."

After a pause Joey chimed in, "OH! I almost forgot. Beau is sending his friend Colt to pick you up at 4pm."

A second male voice came on the line, "And he is single and straight as an arrow."

She chuckled at Beau, "Geeze Beau you're as bad as aunt Lulu trying to hitch me up."

Beau tsked, "Just want you to start popping out little babies for uncles Joey and Beau to spoil."

Laughing Ruby noted the time, "Alrighty boys I gotta finish dressing. It takes me longer to paint on a face than you."

Joey came on the line, "Ruby you're beautiful as is."

Ruby tried not to let her voice crack, "I will see you soon hun."

Saying goodbye and hanging up Ruby finished dressing.
