1 Chapter 1

He was wondering if his decision was right or not. It was just minutes before Dawn and they gathered around their campfire. He stared at those rocks as if like it was staring back at him. He already made his decision and he's damn planning to stick to it. Gerald was moaning.

He knew; it was his mistake

He felt a cold sigh on his left shoulder and he quickly turned back. Aldrin's chin was resting on his shoulder. She was staring far back into the forest. He looked at her and she returned it back. A cold wind blew over them.

"You should have guessed";she told him.

He sighed and was ready to walk out when she called him;"Brian, we're counting on you."

Brian couldn't move. She was loosing hope and that's the last thing he wanted. He was breathing heavily. She looked at him, patiently.

She knew how he was feeling. She got up and moved towards him. He could feel her boots crushing the leaves. She took him by his face and stared right into his eyes. She was blinking softly. He could almost see her eyelashes closing on itself slowly. He looked at her with compassion but felt sorry for her.

She was taking a huge leap of faith in me.

"What you guys doing?"; a sound interrupted them. They turned back to see Clad staring at them with a disgusting face. They returned back to their senses and was soon enough to understand the gravity of the situation.

Their primary line of defense is down and they are left without a shelter. Gerald was heavily injured and can't continue without proper medication.

They all gathered around the camp once again.

It was Brian's turn to take the leadership. Gerald was not going to survive for long and especially in this scenario.

Brian lit a torch and gave it to Aldrin. He was left with no choice but to carry Gerald on his back. Leaving him here was never an option even though he pleaded them. Even knowing that this will slow their progress to their destination; a slight amount of humanity left in him was not allowing him to do it. The side effects can be pretty fatal as in this case.

They continued their journey. They were keeping north. They couldn't trust GPS. They don't know if it exist anymore.

Clad was clearing the path. She was also worried. This circumstance is once in life time. A few miles passed without much intensity. There were very less talks.

It was really a frightening phase of their life.

Brian's shoulders were dropping. He was feeling the gravity of Earth pulling him downward. Aldrin could see a distant hospital like building maybe a few kilometers afar. She was helping Brian a few time. "Brian, just few more meters; just keep it together..";she tried to cool him down. He was breathing heavily. His eyes were almost getting disoriented while he was on his knees and collapsed to the ground.

The other two rushed in to help them. They lifted them up and leaned them against some rocks. Aldrin splashed some water on his face and he got up with a burst of emotions. His coordination was still hay wire. He shook his head and stretched his leg. Gerald was not moving for some time and they were feeling worried about him. An hospital would be perfect hideout from this phenomenon and it maybe able to help them as well. Clad was not ready to give up yet.

A perfect hideout was a street away from them. A huge lane stood in front of them. It was totally abandoned as it should be.

A white Mini Cooper was parked ten meters away.

They should probably understand the fact that danger might be lurking inside this very building. They slowly stood up and made their way to it. They were half successful; just when one of the phone rang.

They were getting nervous and was trying to find the source of the sound to terminate it.

It was buzzing from Gerald's pocket. They took it out and saw the name Benjy on the screen. There was no time to think. Brian quickly switched it off and took Gerald on his shoulder and and ran along with others.

They closed the front door and guarded it by some wooden table that was lying at the nearby reception area.

They could still hear growling from outside.

They knew it was just some matter of time

before we all get compromised.
