9 The skull-faced party-goer

~~~Jared's POV~~~
I hide within the shadows...
The place was relatively dark anyway, so it was a good cover for me.
I lurked within the darkness, but at the same time, I also tried my best to blend with the rest of the humans present in the place.
The stench of alcoholic drinks was thick in this place.
Of course! What else could I expect from a nightclub?
The stereos were also blaring with upbeat music. Lights were also flashing and people were dancing and laughing; some were even making out.
"Target spotted."
I said next to my mouthpiece.
I deliberately tried to speak as loud as I could. But I doubt if my voice could even be heard by the other line.
It was way too noisy down here. It's chaotic!
No wonder, our targets love to stay at places like this.
"Are you sure he got the right one this time?"
I heard Rico's voice from the other line and I snickered when I heard his inquiry.
"Affirmative!"
I replied with a scoff.
Apparently, Jared was on the lookout for an alleged demon. So he was trying his best to blend in with the crowd of partying people as much as he could.
However, despite his effort, the alleged demon was still able to pick up his scent among the humans present on the dance floor.
So the other party looked around him in vigilance and in order for Jared to avoid being caught, he deliberately approached a stranger that was seating by herself at the bar countertop.
The other party was sober enough to enjoy the rest of the night, yet she chose to act as if she was already wasted.
She came to the place not to party, but rather to drown herself with the sound of people's laughter and loud music.
Countless shot glasses which she emptied not a long while ago, already lined her sight. Yet she chose to ignore them.
"One more please."
She ordered and of course, the bartender was more than willing to comply. But not before questioning her.
"What is it this time, Cassie? Having a bad day?"
He asked as he handed the other party her drink.
Aries and Cassie had been acquainted with one another for almost a year now. They met on that same spot when Cassie went to go partying for the first time.
Jared, on the other hand, sat right next to Cassie just as when she had finished another shot of her liquor. At first, Cassie thought that the guy was there to hit on her so she deliberately acted drunk and rested her head on the countertop.
For some reason, that seemed to do the trick of warding unwanted conversation from the strangers, and to date, it has not failed her yet.
She acted as though she did not notice Jared presence and instead focus her attention on the dance floor
She watched the people danced to the music as though they were having the greatest time of their lives.
Meanwhile, just as when the alleged demon turned his head towards the direction where Jared was hiding, Jared leaned into the unsuspecting lady, and without giving her a warning, he claimed her lips with his.
Cassie was caught off guard when out of nowhere, someone grabbed her and kissed her so she abruptly pushed the man away and took a step back to put a safe distance between them.
"Let me go, you creep!"
She blurted out then wiped her mouth with disgust clearly written on her face.
Cassie was just about to berate the other party but to her greatest annoyance, he was not even paying her any heed!
The guy was looking way past her and although Cassie did not hear clearly what he was actually saying at that time, she was quite certain that those were strings of vulgarities.
"Be ready! The mouse saw the cat!"
He said out of the blue, but he was not talking to anyone. Then without even bothering to apologize to her, the other party left just like that.
"Excuse me?! Are you nuts?!!!"
Cassie's lower jaw almost dropped to the floor when he saw the guy walked out right after kissing her. She could not believe what just happened.
But then, just as when she was about to return to her seat and pretend that nothing ever happened in the first place, someone bumped at her.
"Hey look at where you are going."
Cassie spat through her gritted teeth. She was already pissed just as much as she could possibly get because of what just happened to her and the act of someone bumping at her right after that incident was as good as adding kindling to the fire burning inside her.
She followed the other party with her eyes and was determined to give him an earful, but all words that she wanted to say ended up getting stuck at the back of her throat when she saw the face of the one who happened to bump at her.
HE HAD A FACE OF A SKULL!
