133 Overpowered Bow: Deathsong!

Samar blinked open his groggy eyes and realized he was back in Sage Nyasa's hut. He could feel the Mana coursing through his body, just not as vividly as before when he was under the effects of Conch-Flower.

"So you learned the Mana Conversion Mystic Art," Uluk said, looking down at him from his perch by the Bookshelves. Then the owl looked up at the portrait and hooted,"Old Man! He is back!"

The specter of Sage Nyasa once again whooshed out of the painting. He immediately noticed the change in Samar and smiled, bringing out Deathsong from his painting.

"Now you are qualified to use this weapon."said Sage Nyasa, handing over the Bow to his successor. "You can upgrade Deathsong by invoking the Runes carved on its frame."

'Finally!' Receiving the Bow from the Sage with a reverence, Samar exclaimed in his heart. As soon as the Bow changed ownership, he received a notification.

[Congratulations! You have obtained a Shard of Myth, Deathsong.]

Then suddenly the entire scene around him came to a standstill; Sage Nyasa was in the midst of retracting his hands, Uluk stopped midair, as it was jumping down from its perch. It was as if someone had hit a pause button.

Samar was stunned by this sudden change. As far as he knew, no VRMMORPG could be paused by a player and Dreamverse was no exception. Yet, it had happened!

Then another notification flashed before his eyes.

[An existing Universal Shard of Myth in your possession has detected the Shard of Myth. It is beginning fusion with Deathsong…]

Immediately, the obsidian black bow in his hands began to glow. Two thin streaks of golden white began to wrap around its frame, one starting from the peacock head at the top and the other from the swan head at the bottom.

They spiraled around the length of Deathsong, intersecting with the existing blood red streaks, creating a beautiful pattern across the bow. The white light bled into the Nine Rune Symbols on the frame and outlined them, bringing the process to an end.

The paused game was also unpaused and the time within the game began to flow normally.

Samar's eyes widened with shock, as he had no idea he possessed another Shard of Myth. He checked his inventory but he could not find any item missing.

He quickly checked the information of the weapon, eager to know how much it would improve him.

The Mythic weapon was just as OP as he had imagined. It provided a 5% boost to all his stats even though it was merely at Ash-Gray Grade!

It also came with nine skills, a skill for each corresponding rune!

Unfortunately, most of them were sealed. He could only unlock the skills for the Four Basic Elemental Runes and the Venom Rune for now.

Eager to know about them, Samar immediately got to work. He invoked the four Basic Elemental Runes one after another and watched the quality of the Bow recover after each successful invocation.

After he successfully invoked the Venom Rune using the first Hymn of Venom, the quality of Deathsong underwent a massive improvement and it emitted a bloody grayish glow.

Just in a few moments, Deathsong's grade had been upgraded to Blood-Iron grade!

"Damn!" Samar exclaimed with shock, upon seeing the new stats of Deathsong. The attribute bonus had risen by 14%, making his stats comparable to when he was Lv16!

Not only had his stats risen, new skills had also appeared in the weapon's skill panel. Not one, not two but 5 new Runic Skills!

Samar began to check the newly received skills one by one.

Flameburst skill from the Fire Rune was similar to Exploding Arrow, it dealt 100% Physical damage +20% Fire Elemental damage to foes in 3x3 range and 30% splash fire damage to other enemies in 2x2 range.

Air Piercer and Frostbiter were both single target skills, the former could break the enemy's armor and the latter could freeze the enemy. Both the skills dealt 100% physical damage and 50% Elemental Damage.

The Orbit Defense Skill from the Earth Rune was even more astonishing. It manipulates an arrow to circle around the Deathsong's wielder for 5 seconds and intercept 1 incoming attack, melee or projectile.

This was in essence a life saving skill, something that Samar needed very much!

The skill from Venom Rune was even more powerful. It had an unpredictable path, making it hard to avoid. Once the arrow hit, it would deal 0.75% toxic damage per second over a span of 20 seconds to the target, effectively taking away its 15% of HP!

Moreover, these skills could be upgraded using higher orders of Hymns for each of the Runes, increasing their damage, duration and effectiveness!

This was the reason Sage Nyasa had not offered Samar any other skill books; just the combination of Mana Conversion Mystic Art plus Rune Arrows and the skills from Deathsong were enough to defeat any formidable foe!

After admiring his weapon's new skill panel, he arrived at the special ability part.

"Dream's Champion... What is this exactly?"

The thing Samar could not understand was why he possessed an additional Shard of Myth and why it combined with Deathsong without any action on his part. Also, his expectation had been raised to the sky after the huge commotion caused by the fusion but it only provided an unknown special ability, Dream's Champion.

There was not even an explanation about what it did!

Samar did not know where he could find the answers to his questions but he had to start searching somewhere. And what better person could he ask than the former owner of a Shard of Myth, Sage Nyasa himself!

The Specter of Sage Nyasa took out a book with title an obscure language that Samar could not understand. He started answering Samar's question after referencing the text within the book.

"The Elven Records of the Antiquity Era speak of a grade above the Mythic grade. Items like Deathsong were made from the broken Shards of items of this higher grade." Turning towards Samar, the Specter said, "This is the reason they are called Shards of Myth. When two Shards of Myth originating from the same item come together, they should probably re-fuse."

Samar had explicitly asked about Deathsong and another unknown shard that had fused with it. Yet, the specter and even the animals Uluk and Shail, acted like nothing had changed about Deathsong.

It made Samar realize that the unknown Shard of Myth was probably a glitch in the Dreamverse, an unknown variable. Whether the special option it provided, Dream's Champion, was a blessing or a curse, he would find out in time.

—----

A long dragon that could wrap the entire Alucinor City in its coil, lay asleep in the clouds above the Draumur Archipelago. It enveloped the final destination of all players and the NPCs, the Throne of Power in its coiled embrace, exhaling smoke that turned into a thick cover of clouds concealing its body.

This dragon that did not care about anything was startled by a threatening presence today. The moment Deathsong started fusing with the unknown Shard, the dragon's large yellow eyes snapped open.

"Dream!" It grumbled, raising its neck like a serpent, scanning all the four directions of Dreamverse with its striking eyes, but still it was unable to find the location of its nemesis.

Soon, the threat it felt subsided.

The massive cyan colored dragon laid its head down on the soft fluffy clouds and went back to sleep, uncaring of the weakened Dream, which would not be able to threaten it without finding all the pieces of her body.
