7 Zach And Dueling

The students made room in the middle as the teacher made a small boundary line about twenty feet by twenty feet. Me and Zach each took our positions.

"So can we use magic sir." I asked before we started.

"Indeed you may." He said and then threw his arm down signaling the start.

Zach moved with extremely fast speed and it was hard to keep up with him. Our swords collided over and over again as we pushed each other back and fourth. I slip my left leg out going low trying to trip him but he does a back flip landing smoothly and attacking again. As our swords trade a blow and about to again but I add more power into my legs. We our swords collided I pushed forward as fast as I could. He gave way and then I jumped back pulling two cards from my pocket.

"Activate" I said while running full speed towards Zach who was casting his own spell.

I had just activated lightning step so I was much faster than him now but I also activated another card called flame trap. He hadn't been expecting the sudden boost in speed and I put him on the defensive as he casted a ice shield that floated around him blocking my attacks. I take a moment to notice he was actually slowly moving around me and I jumped into the air and swung my sword from above as his shield blocked the attack. He took his opportunity and lunged for me in the air but as he was about to hit me a flaming spiral came from where his sword was about to hit and his shield was stuck defending against my sword. He flew backward getting heavily scorched and I took the opportunity that he wasn't near his shield and bolted towards him past the flying shield. I hit the sword out of his burnt hand and the smacked him once in the leg making him cripple to the ground.

"Activate" Zach said as everyone thought it was over.

A bright white glow consumed his body for a second and when it disappeared his body was fully healed. It looked like we hadn't even started fighting if you looked at him.

"That's what he gets for going against a third year."

"Wait was that light magic."

"Watch as he gives up now."

I heard everyone talking to each other but didn't let it bother me.

"So we're using those kind of spells." I said coldly.

"Activate." I said pulling a card from my pocket.

Name-Void star.

Spell.

Creates three black stars around the user that paralyze anyone who gets hit by them. They can be controlled by the mind and can be traded away to heal all wounds and illnesses.

All together this was a powerful card and took almost all my mana.

I sent the three stars toward Zach who tried to block them. The first few tries he knocked them off course but he was hit eventually due to being chased and surrounded by them. It seemed he really couldn't move as he fell to the ground.

"He actually beaten a third year."

"Well he started a war with the third years now."

"Wow can't believe his that strong and kinda cute."

"Wait was that a shadow spell or a regular spell."

So many people were talking. when I released the spell and the teacher had everyone go to their next class. He sent Zach to the infirmary however do to a broken nose he got when he fell at the end of the fight.

"So that heal spell takes him a lot of mana huh." I muttered to myself.

I knew that the third years wouldn't forgive Zach for losing to a first year so he would come after me likely. I decided to be more careful during my time here. My next class was outside and tables and wooden chairs were lined up in a row one after the other with large amity spaces around each.

"Welcome to dueling class everyone. Here you learn how to duel others." Out teacher said.

Dueling was the bases for all nobles and those with high regard. A duel is when two people with decks of sixty or less cards sit down in a field and draw cards randomly from the top of their decks. Each person can draw five cards to start with and play up to two each round. A round ends when the person either finishes their attack or simply says their ending their turn. If your wandering why someone would do this instead of a actual war well it's rather simple. Instead of putting together thousands of soldiers for a full out war just get the people with strong decks to duel. Duels can literally decide a countries fate. The winner is decided by who survives or surrenders and sometimes if you run out of summing or cards in your deck you lose. It's like being a general and summoning your cards as your soldiers to watch.

I took a seat and placed my deck of sixty cards and shuffled them. When a girl around my age sat across from me placing his deck on the table. The reason for a table is to show what cards are active and being used by placing the card your upswing upwards on the table.

"Names Jenny and yours." She said giving me friendly handshake.

"Kingston." I said and we each drew our five cards.

"You can go first." I said.

"Well thank you." She said happily and looked at her the cards in her hand.

"I play war hounds." She said placing the card on the table and three big brown dogs about four feet tall appeared to far left of us waiting for battle.

"I also play silver armor." She said placing the card slightly over the war hounds card and a small light appeared around the hounds before silver armor appeared on them. They had helmets on their head and armor their back and legs.

"Okay my turn now." I said looking at the cards in my hand. Those hounds are one stared but the armor could be a problem considering I don't what it does.

Cards in hand.

Triple head dog.

Reaper of shadows.

Armored hawk.

Three headed wolves.

Spell of blood.

"I'm sorry you have to play with me you know." I said picking one of the cards.

"Really. Like I know something about how they gave you permission not to wear the basic school uniform but not why." She said.

"I summon Reaper of shadows." I say calmly as dark shadow emerges from my left awaiting orders.

Name- Grim Reaper Of Shadows.

Stars- three

Power- 20/20

The grim reaper of shadows is a being that should be feared by all monsters. Its ability to become a shadow itself and move unseen allows for quick sneak attacks and hard to hit. It's scythe does not so much bodily damage as it damages the soul itself. It drains the life force from the soul increasing its power. The owner of the card gain the ability to gain the life force of the individual that has been hit by the scythe.

"I also play triple head dog." I say placing the card next to the grim reaper of shadows.

Summoned being name- triple head dog.

Stars- two

Power 25/25

I saw how it power went from 15 to 25 realizing how much stronger it really was and how weak that bandit was as well.

"What is this even. You summoned a three stared being and a two stars power that is above normal." The girl said in surprise.

"Attack." I said calmly and the battle began.

"I summon white knight. White knight help the war hounds.

The hounds and triple headed dog snapped at each other but my triple headed dog towered over them and simply smashed into them. All her hounds went flying and landed badly. If it wasn't for that armor they would have died.

Her white knight was no joke though.

Name- White Knight

Stars- 2 stared.

Power-40/40

A power of forty was insane considering it was a two star. A power of forty could hold its own against a normal three star but my reaper. Her white knight was fast and swung his heavy two hand long sword into my reaper. However my reaper dissipated into shadows as the knight swing into him. The sword went flying through were the reaper just stood. A bolt of shadow flew across the grass and sprang up into the air taking the form of the reaper once again. Reaper was in the air behind the knight while the knight was still recovering from it swing trying to turn around at the same time. Reaper came down swinging the scythe straight the knight like a ghost. Reaper as it lanes swung through again. The knight had turned around and stumbled back a little as you could see small cuts on his arm but nothing major. The knight seemed to wobble and used his sword as a cane.

"What is that thing even. I beaten three stars with power thirty five with white knight." The girl said in a slightly stunned voice.

"The reaper of shadows doesn't deal much physical damage. It's happening is instead of attack the physical side of things it's attacking the spirit itself with each blow." I said watching the battle.

Her dogs returned to their card and the knight was slammed into by the triple headed dog.

"It seems you've lost." I said.

"I can still." Before she could finish her sentence a sharp rounded blade came up to her throat.

"You win." She said as reaper returned to the card from behind her.

"I hadn't thought you would attack the person themselves." She said.

Normally in a real duel the people wouldn't be next to each other but far away in a camp or across a battle field. But because this was a training session in the school it made it harder.

"Well Jenny maybe we'll see each other later." I said getting up for my next duel partner.

Well cards can be used for anything duels allowed the capturing of lands without putting many lives at risk. This is why dueling with cards are good. Their good if you yourself is fighting or simply starting a war. Many lands have been seized through duels.

"Be careful, war is coming." Author.

"Who said that." Kingston muttered to himself looking around before starting his next duel.
