Eighteen - My queen

AMON

(After the wedding party.)

I moved through my study, in search of some signed documents. I picked one of them up and flipped through it. I moved to my desk and sat down at my chair, still flipping. A hurried knock came at the door.

"Come in."

A guard entered with an urgent look on his face.

"Your majesty, a messenger from the army camp has arrived. He says the commander ordered him to personally give you the letter."

"Send him in," I said getting up from my seat. The guard bowed and exited.

News from the camp. This could be either bad news or good news. I hope it is good.

A knock was heard again.

"Come in."

A dusty dressed messenger who was bearing the emblem of Yaznak entered the study. He bowed and handed over a rolled-up letter that was sealed with wax with the emblem of Yaznak imprinted in it.

"This is from?"

"Commander Raman Tizahk. From the army camp."

"What's the state of the happenings at the camp?'

"Good, your majesty."

"Okay. Wait outside at the door till I call you back in."

He bowed and exited the room. Slowly I sighed, unrolled the letter and read it.

Your majesty,

We would like to congratulate you on your wedding first of all. King Nazir's soldiers have arrived and are settled. The one thing we are waiting for is your arrival at the camp to inform us of your battle plans.

General Mumm-ra insisted that you may not be able to be available due to your marriage. But your presence is needed at the camp because without you being here we might lose the war.

Your subject,

Raman Tizahk.

Commander.

I sighed and rolled it up again.

Needed at the camp?

I sighed. I rubbed my temples, sat at my desk and wrote my reply.

Raman Tizahk,

I have received your letter and thank you for your thoughts. I will leave Yaznak for the camp soon. Do not be bothered about my being married, we both will arrive at the camp for the plans to start as soon as possible.

Your king,

Amon Raqar Ankham IV.

I rolled up the letter and tied it with a cord. I poured wax on the cord and pressed the royal emblem on it. I got up and opened the door. The messenger stood there obediently.

"Go get something to eat and go back to the camp. Hand this to Raman. No one else."

"Yes, your majesty."

"You may leave."

He bowed and left. I ran my hand through my hair and sighed.

No wedding night for me I guess.

I couldn't help but grin.

From street kid to assassin to servant to princess to queen.

My queen. All mine.

I might as well make the most of this opportunity.

JADE

"How come you never told me about this?"

"Surprise?"

"Jade," she said sternly.

"Ameera."

She sighed then shook her head.

"I am not going to argue with you even though you have a lot of explaining to do."

"I know."

"Okay, let's get you ready for your.... wedding night...." she said wiggling her eyebrows.

"Ameera," I whined, covering my face in embarrassment.

"What?"

"Don't say it like that."

"Oh? Then how do you expect to give Yaznak an heir to the throne."

"Ameera," I whined louder.

The knock that came at the door interrupted Ameera and saved me.

"Who is it?," I asked.

"Your one and only."

My face flamed at that when I recognized the voice. Irritated, I walked towards the door but was intercepted by Ameera. I rose an eyebrow but all she did was turn and open the door after I went to hide in a corner for some reason. Amon stood there, leaning on the doorframe.

"Your majesty."

"Ameera. Where's Jade? I need to talk to her."

"Her highness is undressed right now."

From the corner I was, I saw his cheek turn a little pink. He cleared his throat and said,

"Please tell her to see me in my study when she is done."

"Yes, your majesty."

He nodded then turned and left. She shut the door and I came out of my hiding place.

"Why didn't you want me to see him?"

"He can't see you in your wedding clothes after the wedding."

"Why not?"

"It's just a tradition we Yaznakans have. A groom must not see the bride in her wedding clothes after the wedding."

"Well then, what am I supposed to wear?"

She grinned evilly, went to the wardrobe and came back with the most absurdly skimpiest thing I have ever seen."

"No. No. No. No." I said stepping back.

"Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes."

"I will NOT wear that."

"You have to. You are going to see the King after marriage."

"In the study."

"But anything can happen in the study."

"Ameera."

"What?" she shrugged.

"I'm not wearing that thing for the King. Consider that an order."

She sighed.

" Yes, your highness."

I gave out a breath in relief.

"Thank goodness. I thought you would never oblige."

"I won't make you wear it. Not now anyway."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Oh, nothing. Let find something else for you to wear."
