14 Chapter 14

Brenessa

I blinked my eyes open, trying to shield them from the blinding light above, once I got myself and my eyes settled I found myself in the most beautiful garden I had ever seen, even more beautiful than the one I found with Avyanna last week.

Wait! Avyanna!

I stood up frantically looking around for even just a glimpse of Adira, but, something felt strange but I couldn't place my paw on it until I tried to leap forward and fell flat face first. It was only then I saw that I had human limbs.

On my human knees, I crawled over to a nearby lake to see if I was in control of Avyanna but the reflection was... different. It wasn't Avyanna's face, this person had beautiful silver and gold hair like my fur, her facial features were beautiful and flawless and her skin glowed so brightly that it almost enchanted me.

I was able to pick up footsteps from a distance, quick to react I waited to assess the situation, I was thankful that I still had my wolf senses intact and whatever the threat was I'm ready to attack at any moment.

A woman walked out from behind a very large tree that I probably missed, she had this weird feeling like I'd met her before, letting my defences down I focused on the woman's face, she looked almost exactly like the face I saw in the water.

The woman, slowly and gracefully walked up to me with a gentle smile and love in her eyes, and the first thing that came out of my new mouth was;

"Am I really in heaven?" I said as tears streamed out my eyes. The only thing I could think of at that moment was that I might never get to see Avy ever again.

The woman in front of me huffed a bit and then turned around, hearing her voice my attention was brought back to here, was she laughing at me because I was dead?

Confused, I stood there watching the beautiful woman laugh her belly out as if what I had said was the funniest thing she ever heard in the world.

Waiting for my answer, I stood there waiting for the woman to get herself, I still don't get what was so funny about dying in the first place.

"D-don't- don't mind me... I'm sorry... I just- I just didn't think that's would be the first thing a daughter says to her mother." The woman said catching her breath.

"Daughter?" I said out loud, obviously confused by her choice of words, as far as I was concerned, my mother was named Kendra.

"Forgive my rudeness, I'm sure this is news to you so I don't expect you to believe me so easily." She said now composing herself better.

I scanned the woman thoroughly and there wasn't an ounce of intimidation or malicious intent in her words or actions it felt more like she was telling the truth but how? How could I believe a stranger?

"Err, can you tell me where I am? I need to find someone very important." I said to the woman not interested in what she was saying.

"Don't worry, She's fine. Avyanna's sleeping peacefully thanks to you." The woman said but, how did she know Avy?

"How do you know Avyanna? And who are you?" I asked beginning to be wary around her.

"I told you, I'm your mother and Avyanna's a friend of mine, we had a chat once." She said briefly. A part of me trusted her completely, no questions asked, but another part felt she was sketchy with all the simple answers.

"I see you don't trust me fully." She said with a sigh.

I swallowed hard waiting for her words so I could understand the situation, one more thing Kendra taught me: "Always assess the situation before you drive straight into it." Kendra said during training.

"Well, I can blame you, not after you fought her. Bellona's as impatient as I remember." Was she talking about the armoured lady that was with me in Avyanna's body?

"H-how... How do you know so much?" I asked again.

"My my, aren't you one full of questions. I guess it's my fault for playing too much." She said walking to an open area, she waved her hand over the grass and out of nowhere, tree vines grew out of the ground to form wooden stools and she sat down.

Magic? That was the first word that popped into my head.

"You sit too." She said to me. I looked behind me and the same thing was there.

"Let me formally introduce myself. My name is Aadya, also known as the child of the forest now known as The Moon Goddess. Hello Brenessa." She greeted.

Wait! What? The moon goddess? This human? But how can that be right? Well, it does kinda make sense after Father's story, but still. I was going back and forth in my head about the woman in front of me who sat without a care in the world.

"Wait," I finally said.

"What does you being the moon goddess have to do with you being my mother?" I asked and it was obvious that she was taken off guard by my question.

Again she burst into a fit of laughter, this time louder than the last, and it was getting on my nerves now.

"Of- all- the- questions- to- ask- you- ask- that-" She managed to say through laughs.

I watched her laugh as if her life depended on it, she would take one look at me and fall back into that endless cycle.

"Forgive me, I'm acting so out of line today, I'm not usually like this." She said trying to get a hold of herself.

"I like you, well you are my daughter so, that's not new." She said to me.

"I believe I owe you a proper explanation as to what's going on." She continued.

I sat up straight to better under what she was going to say even if it wasn't necessary, as it was it seemed she knew everything, which explains why she's the moon goddess I guess.

"When I had to sacrifice my life for my people and my family, I was taken in by the gods and was made the moon goddess, in charge of affairs of the new race I had just created." She started.

"And when I had found out about my disciple's misdeeds, it was already too late. As punishment, the other gods decided to send down a lower war god every time there was an alliance between my disciples and any magical beast, just like Avyanna's parents, it was something I couldn't avoid." She said not in the disappointment of her people but herself.

"Was that why I was born?" I asked and slowly the moon goddess nodded her head.

"Since I am unable to go back to the world or reincarnate, I had to do something or the entire human race was going to suffer for something some of them knew nothing about. In the end, it was always the helpless humans who suffered the most in those wars." She said her tone getting more and more serious and urgent.

"When Avyanna's mother was rejected, it was an unfortunate event but I also saw an opportunity. She met with the king to be of my people and that was when I planted the seed, which was you. I'm sorry I had to send you in my place to help my people on my behalf." The moon goddess finished with a sense of remorse.

"Wait, if I'm getting this right, I was born to fight a battle I know nothing about because some humans were careless?" I asked looking at the irony of the whole situation.

"Being born of me through a true wolf makes you the Queen of Lunas, meaning you're not like the others, you hold both the power of a lower god, a wolf and the blessed powers bestowed upon me during my time on earth. That's the only reason you were able to save your human that night." She explained.

Thinking about it now, the woman in the armour couldn't care less about me, she probably didn't know what I was. She looked strong and I was supposed to fight her, but that is going to be hard.

"I urge you not to be afraid my child, everything has fallen into place up until now so I'm sure you will be victorious. You are the queen Luna, you just have to work twice as hard." She explained to me. But I had to ask about something that had also been bothering me for a very long time.

"M- my mate? What if- what if he rejects me? It's obvious you can't influence the mind so..." I trailed off.

The moon goddess smiled with passion in her eyes as she stood up and came closer to me, she lifted my chin to look at her.

"You don't need to worry about that, you're my daughter, after all, I'm sure he'll love you as soon as he sets his eyes on you. You're going to create a strong kingdom together. I promise." She said, her words moved tears in my eyes, she only confirmed what Avyanna had been telling me.

"But... Don't you ever feel alone?" I asked her, she smiled sweetly as she moved towards a bed of yellow roses, who knew that was even possible.

"I'm happy enough that I get to watch my children from here every day and also, I make bonds, which is kinda a big deal but those human turned wolves can be so stubborn at times but that's the joy I get from doing all this." She replied.

"Plus, occasionally, I cause little troubles so the gods can summon us for a meeting, that way we mingle every few thousand years." She added with a light laugh at the end. Must be hard.

We spent more time talking about the lighter matter, she also told me the real reason I wasn't able to manifest in Avyanna for so long and she also ended up telling me where we were and how long Avyanna had been asleep then we decided that it was time for me to go back.

We'd meet again. That was for sure.
