The Hunter's Mate

I grew older knowing supernatural creatures. For example, I could tell a vampire if I see one. It was strange that I was more powerful than any of them. At first, I thought I was one of them but the more I studied about them, the more it gave me reasons to doubt that I was like them. I gave up trying to find the race I belonged to, so I went about my daily life living like humans. But my world began to crumble when I found my mate. He is a warlock of the witch's coven and one of the mermaid hunters. Through him, I started to find who I really am and my purpose on earth.

The treat

Chapter 14: The treat.

I feel weird after what happened in the morning, I couldn't help but ask myself, was kissing him really necessary?.

And why would Jake cheat on me to start with?, I've not spoken or heard from him since last week and this is what he did, betrayed me and kissed Wendy, to top it all, accused me of being sexually attracted to the same sex.

Though I had never kissed and become intimate with Jake doesn't tame me LGBT. And in all females, it had to be Molly?.

Catherine sat beside me and I looked at her. The students were stealing glances at us, obviously surprised and confused about Catherine sitting beside me. She always had this mean look with her and never turned to look back at them.

"What do you want?." I asked knowing she wanted something. She smiled but didn't look at me.

She closed up her note and relaxed on her chair. "You almost killed my guard last night. How did you manage to do it?" I was completely lost. I couldn't understand either.

"Just leave." I waved her off and stood up, walking to another empty booth. I only needed some time alone.

I sneaked out of the class when the disciplinarian wasn't looking, I was about walking down the stairs when I met Stefan at the last step, holding on to the banister. I was looking at him when he raised his head and our eyes fixed together.

I started walking down still having the mutual gaze. Standing in front of him, I swallowed a big lump and tried walking away but he grabbed my hand softly, perking up at his touch, and enjoying the sparks it produced. "I was waiting for you, beloved." I loved the way it made me feel when he called me that. It made me forget my worries and all I wanted now was to be with him.

"Come on." He said and started walking away with his hand still holding mine, and I hypnotically followed him.

I was back to myself when I looked around and found out we were at the rooftop of the school building. Two seats were set and a table was in between. I was confused so I looked at him. "What are we doing here?"

He turned and slowly let go of my hand. He was at this time standing opposite me. "I asked you to see me after class." I tilted my head quizzically.

Then it popped up in a flash. After the kiss right there in class, he whispered, "Meet me after class." And then walked away.

"Aha!" I exclaimed and internally scolded myself for forgetting such a thing. He made his way out and walked to the seats, he had one drowned out for me. I wasn't used to this though I'd sat and waited for him to sit opposite me.

He popped out the wine bottle and poured on the glasses on the table. His eyes never let go of mine. "Are we on a date?" I couldn't help myself from chuckling at my question.

"Let's just say a treat. "He replied to me before sipping from his glass of wine. I sipped mine too, "Why?" I asked, amused at this gesture.

"For defending me back there, it's something." I smiled, gazing directly into his eyes. "Elena." He called.

Confusedly, I asked. "How do you know it's Elena?." I asked with a broad smile across my face.

He scoffs, "It could be Elena, Eloise, Mitchelle, Elisa, Elisha, Ellisha..but I know it's Elena. And I'm gonna call you Nellie."

"Mhm. Sounds fun." I told him as he drank from the wine. "No. It sounds cute. Because you are a shining light, a sun."

We stood, getting views of several top buildings in the vicinity. Stefan was resting his back on the metal rails and was looking at me. He did that for a while before clearing his throat. "Uhm, do you like me?" I look sharply in his direction. "Pardon." He chortled.

"Do you feel the same way I feel for you?" He questioned.

"How do you feel for me?." I asked back.

"We've hit it off since we met..." He started but stopped when I smiled.

" I know I've had the hots for you, I know already."

"Nellie, Let's have a heart-to-heart conversation. I'm not trying to impose a relationship on you at this early stage, but then you have to follow your heart, baby girl."

"But you know, I think I'm doing the wrong thing with you. I feel like a cheat." He smiles and stretches out his hand on my face, he simply tucks my hair behind my ear. "You always do the right thing and you feel this way because you do not understand, you'll understand when it's time."

My phone rang stopping me from asking him to explain why he said that now. My mom was calling, and I picked up.

"Mom wants me to come immediately." I looked down from the roof top and I could see her in the car lounge. Stefan, who was looking down too, directed his gaze at me.

Without warning, he leaned forward and kissed my forehead, "I hope to have more of this with you." I smiled and turned, "Wait!" He clamored behind me. I turned. He dipped his hand into his pocket and brought out a Reese chocolate bar. He handed it to me. "It's another treat for me." I smiled, "Thank you."

I walked into mom's car full of smiles, I looked at mom who was funnily gazing back at me. "Spill it, mom."

"What's going on Ellie?."

"Nothing, mom." I replied. "There's something, this wasn't the look you gave me in the morning."

"I and Jake broke up." I announced, as I was trying to shift away from the conversation. "Oh really?. Sorry dear, you finally ended it with the poor guy." I scoffed, "Mom, he cheated. Why does everyone think it's my fault anyway?"

"Ellie. You are beautiful, no man in his right senses would leave you for someone else, and besides teenagers love to have girls like you, beautiful, pure, intelligent."

"Seriously, mom. Is that how you started with dad?" I asked, I looked at how immediately her smiles disappeared. "It was when I was a girl like you. I had a boyfriend then." She ignites the car.

"Someone you loved?." She drove off and I ended up not getting the answer to my question.
