Chapter 3

Nathaniel looked down at the drink in his hands. He was seated in an armchair in the library that was in his mansion. The library was rather small compared to the size of the mansion. It was filled with books and there was no room left on the bookshelves around him. He took a sip of his drink and looked up at his companions.

Standing in front of him were his most trusted friend and his sister and only sibling.

Tobias Harwood. Nathaniel had grown up with him. They had always been friends. Now their relationship was slightly different, they weren't simple friends anymore. But Tobias was still the person Nathaniel trusted the most aside from his sister. He was his right hand. Tobias was standing tall and passing back and forth in front of him. He brought his hand in his hair in a nervous way, brushing his blond hair backward with his fingers. Eventually, his blue eyes met Nathaniel's eyes again.

"Are you sure about this?" Tobias asked with uncertainty in his voice.

"I am," Nathaniel said sternly.

"The others will never accept it," Rebecca stated. She was talking for the first time since they had entered the library.

Rebecca was a beautiful woman. She had long red hair that she always let down while at home. Her hair was wavy and reached her lower back. Her hazel eyes were cold and calculating while around others but so kind and caring around her loved ones, just like Nathaniel's. Her skin was pale and her lips rosy. She was five years younger than Nathaniel but she always worried for her brother. And her eyebrows were furrowed in worry now.

"They won't have a choice," Nathaniel said turning his gaze toward his sister.

He was the only one seated, so he was in an inferior position. He had to look up to look at Rebecca's and Tobias' faces. And yet, the power radiating from him was still undeniable. Even to an outsider it would be obvious. He was the one in charge.

"You cannot bring a human into this," Rebecca insisted her eyes pleading. "It would be unfair to her, no matter who she will be," she added after a few seconds of silence.

"You're still being defied sometimes, even though it's rare. Your bruised face is the proof of it. You were defied just this morning. You need to think about how bringing a human into this will affect not only her, but you too," Tobias said supporting Rebecca's argument.

Nathaniel shrugged. He didn't care if he was being defied. He was stronger and he loved challenges.

"Will you accompany me tomorrow? Yes or no?" Nathaniel asked ignoring them.

"Yes," Tobias answered.

"Yes," Rebecca sighed.

Nathaniel smiled. If everything went as planned, he would meet his future wife tomorrow. It had been easy so far. He knew his people would have a hard time accepting him marrying a human but they wouldn't have a choice. And maybe everything would turn out the way he wanted it to and they would even be grateful someday.
