1 Chapter 1

1. The following evening, after sperng the dant my neighbors, I went home. Then I went up to my bedroom and set up a camera. It was aimed at my bedroom door and my bed. I set it to record and went to sleep. Thankfully, I slept through the night. However, as I watched the footage, I couldn't believe what I saw. At 3 in the morning, something crawled out from under my bed. It was a completely naked, anorexic man. He stood up and looked at me on the bed. He did so for another hour, not moving at all. Then he moved. He walked over to the camera until his face took up the whole shot. He was extremely pale and had bulging veins all over his head. His eyes were completely black, with a huge smile on his face. He stared at the camera for another two hours, not blinking, just slightly twisting his head every now and again. After two hours of him staring went past, he walked back over to my bed and crawled back under. I skipped the video forward until it showed me getting up and walking over to the camera. The video finished. I was frozen with fear. The video showed him going back under, but not leaving Whatever it was it was still there.

3. About 30 years ago my mom went on a blind date . Her date took her to a restaurant , and although he was nice nough , she just wasn't into him . Not even halfway through the meal she was already thinking of ways to leave early . The waiter could tell . While my mom's date was in the restroom , the waiter approached her and asking her if she was okay She explained she was on a blind date and not having much fun . Turns out the waiter was just about to get off work . He offered to give her a ride home if she waited another ten minutes . She considered it , and was about to say yes , when her date came back from the restroom . She gave a subtle head shake " no " to the waiter and smiled . She and her date finished their meals , and he took her home . The next night my mom was watching the evening news . A story comes on about a woman being raped and murdered behind a restaurant the night before . The restaurant was the one she had been at . They showed the murderer's picture . It was the waiter .

4. The voice above said, "Hold your horses, man, What are you talking about? There's no inn up the road, we're the only house this side of the moor till you get to the sea." "For God's sake, believe me. I know what I'm saying, I was there, just now, and I've just come from there. I was asleep. I was ." His voice faded. One way or another he managed to persuade the man of the house and his brother to come with him up the road. But no matter where they looked there was no inn, no fire, no smoke, no ashes. Nothing. Well, not exactly nothing. Beside the road, in a place where an inn might once have stood, was an old ruin. By now it was dawn, the sky was growing lighter and they could see the olid mossy stones iying in heaps, the broken walls leaning against trees as if looking for help. John ran amongst them. He was beginning to feel bewildered and anxious. The layout of the rooms seemed the same as the inn. There was the back door, the little lobby, the back room, and yes, there were a few of the steps up to the first floor, which would mean his eyes were flicking to and fro with the excitement of it now - which would mean that just up there, along that wall, yes, that would have been the room he had slept in. But it was impossible. This was the ruin of a house that must have been standing here over a hundred years ago. And then he saw it. Something up on the wall that made his whole body freeze. There, next to the place where his bed might have been, was a hook. And on the hook was - his rucksack.

My daughter saw me getting dry skin off my shoulder after a bad sunburn and asked if she could keep my skin flakes and put them in a jar so when I die she can make a mommy mask and remember me always. 2. My then 4 yr old daughter came up to me put her hands on my belly, and said "Mommy you have a baby in your belly" Come to find out two weeks later that I was 3 weeks preg- nant. She also said t was a boy leven though she REALLY wanted a baby sister), and she was right. She also did something similar to two teachers at her daycare. They called her the baby whisperer. 10. My best friend Lisa died when I was pregnant with my daughter. When my daugh ter was 31 heard het laughing. I said what are you laughing at?"She said "auntie Lisa is making silly faces at me and playing with me.
