CHAPTER 1

"It all started in the year 2020 when a virus broke out all around the world called The Hollow Virus. It started off killing thousands, then the numbers started to rise higher than any other virus before. Scientists were rushing to find the cure, until the year 2021 when a group of scientists found a way to cure it. After sending millions of serums all around the globe, there has been cases of children up to the age of 18 wielding unknown powers. Scientists started to study these children and found that it came from the serum, but it worked keeping the virus away, so they kept producing the serum and thought nothing of it. One Scientist named Tomas Pacella made a discovery that only children formed abilities making adults terrified of what these children can do. Some people made cults to "take the devil out" from children, they call themselves The Saviors, but their results end up having children murdered. People call these new children "Hollows" because of a fake of nature that they can wield."

"Now who can tell me what the government decided to do at this time?"

"Ah…Mr. Grey"

The History teacher cleared his throat again trying to get a boy's attention to him, but the boy was still taking a nap. The old man decided to slam his hand next to the boy hitting the table with a big slam, having now awake boy jump in his chair.

"God that was so unnecessary" I groaned as I lift my head up reaching my brown eyes to Mr. Stone's hard dark grey ones. I crossed my arms waiting for him to lecture me like he always does.

"Answer the question, Nathan"

"I rather not, I don't understand why every year we have to learn the same exact story that happened 20 years ago" I say standing up from my seat pointing to the board still locking eyes with the teacher.

The boy had a point the teacher thought but did not say instead he just walks to his desk and writes on a slip and told the boy to go see the principle. Nathan was about to refuse but thought that he did not have to stay in a boring class anymore, so he agreed. After Nathan had walked through the hallways, he opened the door to the principal's office.

"Mrs. Woods how is your day? Any good meetings today no? Oh well look at the time I got to go" I say as I'm about to leave, I was pulled into a chair from Mrs. Woods telekinesis abilities.

"Nathan, I'm done with your games" she sighs and runs her hands through her short red wavy hair and then starts to rub her temples.

"Oh, come on Catherine why don't you realize that I can't stand school it's not for me I should be helping my father and getting a job" I said irritably.

Nathan was playing with the cuffs of his black hoodie while looking down. Mrs. Woods has known my family since the Virus broke out, she was best friends with my father, so she knows what it is like for me at home. My parents were divorced when I was in Kindergarten and I was living with my mother until she went missing on my 12th birthday. So, my father took custody of me ever since.

"Nate you know I can't have you do that" she says with a stern voice.

"Why you know my dad is sick! Your just like the rest of them!" I screamed getting up from my seat turning my back on Mrs. Woods while walking to the door to leave Mrs. Woods locks the door and stopping me in my tracking not letting me move a muscle.

"You know that I am not Nate, you need to calm down take a seat" she says letting me go.

"NO, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE TO GO HOME TO AN EMPTY HOUSE AND YOU HAVE TO SEE YOUR DAD IN THE HOSPITAL LYING ON HIS DEATH BED!" I screamed, I feel my blood burning inside me painful almost, Mrs. Woods walked up to me she put her hand on my shoulder.

"Nat-" Mrs. Woods was about to speak but Nathan shakes her hand off and screams "DON'T TOUCH ME" as he said that Nathan falls on the ground and holds his face and groans in pain. Mrs. Woods squats down and adjusts her low knee black pencil skirt and touches Nathans back trying to sooth him and asks him what is wrong.

"I SAID DON'T TOUCH ME!" Nathans face was hairy, and his eyes were yellow, as he growls, and his teeth were sharp like a wolf. Mrs. Woods falls on the floor and backs up and she holds her hand out using her power on Nathan just as he was about to grab her, he freezes.

"Nathan, please calm down or the police are going to take you away"

After what felt like forever Nathan calms down and the wolfish face goes back to normal and Mrs. Woods lets go of Nathan and he drops down onto his knees and looks at his hands.

"I'm a H-hollow?" Nathan says shocked.

"Nathan I can help you do you trust me?" Mrs. Woods says with a serious tone. She crawls to Nathan and holds his shoulders and tries to have his look at her. She grabs his chin having him took into her eyes and asks again.

"I said do you trust me?" She said trying to fine the answer in his eyes but all he did was slowly nodding his head. They both get up and she immediately grabs her purse and walks out with Nathan. They quickly walk out of the school but get stopped by the security guard.

"Just follow my lead" She whispers to Nathan.

"Hey Todd just driving Nate back home he isn't feeling well" She says will a sigh patting Nathan's back. Nathan finally understood and starts groaning and holding his stomach.

"why won't his parents pick him up?" The security guard said crossing his arms looking up and down at Nathan.

"Because…." Mrs. Woods was stumped and did not know what to say but Nathan quickly said.

"Because my mom is Missing probably dead and my father is in the hospital laying in his death bed so can I please go home and rest sir?" Nathan spits glaring at the security guard. Todd was stumbling with his words and moved to let them pass and scratched his head. After heading to the parking lot Mrs. Woods unlocks her white Ford escape and Nathan gets into the passenger side while Mrs. woods gets into the driver side turning the car on and leaves the school.

"So where are we going exactly?" I asked looking out the window.

"You going to the Hollow Academy" She says looking at the navigation on her phone telling her where to go.

"Your making me go to another school but not just any other school a school for hollows? Unbelievable" I said crossing my arms and huffing.

"Be quiet I need to make a phone call" she says, and she types the phone number on her phone, and it started ringing from the car speakers since the phone was connected to it.

As Mrs. Woods was talking on the phone with a man, I was thinking about what happened in the office back at the school. That feeling of…power was exhilarating but scary at the same time if Mrs. Woods did not stop me in time, I do not know what I could have done. I look at my hands and thought some more after 10 minutes of just thinking I get snapped back into reality by Mrs. Woods telling me that we are here. I look through the window and it was a big school the size of a football stadium and around it was a big was with barbed wiring on the top, I look at Mrs. Woods questioning her.

"Are you sure you're not taking me to a prison?" I say nervously.

"No this is just for safety to the people inside and out" she says, and she parks the car in front of the main entrance of the school.

"If you say so" we both exit out of the car and walk to the double doors as we were about to open the doors and man from inside opens the door.

"Welcome you two must be Catherine and Nathan yes?" The man says holding his hand out for us to shake we shook it and he showed us into the school.

"As you know this is a school for Hollows only so all of your teachers are hollows and of course the students as well. The dorms for males are in the west wing and the females are in the south, here is a map of the school." The man said and walks up to me and taps on my forehead and I looked at him confused then immediately I knew where everything was.

"Anyway, go to Miss Lynn's office she will give you everything you need, and she will give your dorm room number" the man said.

"I'm sorry nobody told me I was staying here. I need to take care of my father and pay for his medical bills" I say confused I look at Mrs. Woods and she is adjusting her white blouse awkwardly. I cross my arms not looking at her anymore and she sighed.

"Look I was going to tell you, but you were too stressed, I'm sorry" She says I look at her and nodded. I hugged her and thanked her for everything, and I nodded at the man and walked to Miss Lynn's office. As I get to her door, I was about to open it, but someone was already coming out of it. It was a boy about my age he had black curly hair and he had what looks to be a black school's uniform on. He was taller than me by an inch he was probably 5'9. The boy looked down at me glaring and smirking he walks away. I look back at the door and opened it relieving a lady about the same age a Mrs. Woods sitting in a chair looking at her computer. Her Black hair slicked into a bun and she was wearing white jumpsuit.

"Hello, my name is Nathan Grey and I'm here to pick up my school stuff?" I said itching the side of my face.

The woman looks up at Nathan and points to a chair in front of her. Nathan goes and sits down waiting patiently as the lady fiercely types on her computer every time she looks at Nathan she quickly goes back to typing.

"Ok here is your stuff your classes are on the schedule and here are your uniform your gym uniform will be sent to you tomorrow, your dorm room is 231" she hands me a box of all of my stuff.

"Uh Tha-"

"I know" she says and goes back to typing on her computer.

"Okay?" I said confused

I leave the office and walked to the west wing and remembered exactly where to do because of that strange man putting the school map in my head. As I got to my dorm I enter, and it showed a living room with three people on the couch. Two guys are playing video games from the tv while the other one was reading a book; I could not see his face.

"Hey Bryce, you wanna play?" The boy says still playing the video game.

"Um my name is Nate" I say still holding my box of stuff while looking around. The boys playing the game paused it and looked at me at first the looked surprised then they looked at each other and smiled.

"SOMEONE NEW!" they both said together. They both got up and ran up to me and started asking questions but every time I try to answer one of them, they ask another one.

"Give the guy some space" a voice said coming from the couch. Oh yeah, the boy reading on the couch I forgot he was here he is so quiet I thought. The two boys back up from me and they walked back to the couch.

"So, what's your ability Nate?" the boy says as he closes his book, I recognized him it was the guy from earlier.

"I don't know yet" I say looking down at my box.

"You will soon enough your room is down the hall on the left" the boy with the black curly hair said.

"Thanks…what's your guys names?" I asked being curious.

"I'm Marcus" the boy with the black curly hair said.

"Tristin" the boy with long brown hair said while playing video games.

"And I'm Chase" the other boy playing video games said he had blonde hair with an undercut.

"Nice to meet you guys" I replied I gave them a little smile and went into my new room. Setting my box on a the made bed I emptied it out and started putting my textbooks on my desk and hung up my uniform in the closet. After putting stuff away, I sit on my bed and thought about what Marcus asked me, what is my power? All night Nathan tried to figure out what ability he has, now its morning time and Nathan is still asleep in his bed.

"Hey, wake up your going to be late for class"

"Nate"

I quickly wake up to someone shaking my shoulder sitting up and rubbing my eyes I saw Marcus in his uniform. I get out of my bed and grabbed my uniform from the closet and started to change into my clothes. Hearing a cough, I look behind me and see that Marcus is still there staring at the wall waiting for me.

"Stop rushing me god your just like my mother" I said tying my tie I then grab my Black jacket that had the hollow crest on the right side of it. It was a hollow tree stump with a raven on top of it.

"Ok let's go" I said grabbing my class schedule. We both walk out of my room and into the living room while I was brushing my dark brown hair with my fingers.

"Where is everyone?" I asked looking around the living room as we walk to the front door.

"They are at their dorms; they were just hanging out here last night" He says opening the front door. We both exited and started walking through the hallway in silence.

"So, uh what class do you have?" I asked trying to break the silence.

"Ethics, you?" he says glancing at me

"Same" I say with a small smile

We get to the classroom and we sat next to each other and the teacher started the class. Who whole class period was just talking about the do's and don'ts by using your ability. After the class ended my next class was Gym and so was Marcus, he said that our gym clothes are in the locker room. We got into the locker room and the gym teacher tells me my locker number. I got to my locker number and it needed my fingerprint for me to open it. After putting my thumb on it the locker opened and a rack slides open revealing a black suit like you see a superhero wearing but all black with the Hollow crest still on the right side of the chest. I took the suit off the rack and put it on it was super baggy on me.

"Nate press your chest" I turned around and saw Marcus there already wearing the gym uniform it fit perfectly on him like a glove. I looked down and pressed my chest like Marcus told me too and immediately after the suit retracted and changed its size fitting perfectly on me.

"Woah that's so cool"

"It's a Nanotech suit it can repair itself and can adapt to your Ability"

"NANOTECH! My use to talk to me about all the time!" I said excitedly to Marcus. Marcus smiles but then it falters.

"Use to?" he says

"Uh y-yeah anyway let's go"

Nathan changes the subject and they headed into the gym. Nathan was expecting a big basketball court and bleachers and that is it but instead there was an obstacle course, Shooting range, big pool and other things.

"Holy Shit" I say out loud

"Oh yeah you're not use to this this is for increasing your power and learning how to control it" Marcus says as they are walking to the group of kids standing beside the gym teacher.

"What if you don't know your ability?" I asked Marcus but instead of Marcus replying the gym teacher replies.

"Well I guess I would have to tell you then, I'm Mr. Roman" he says crossing his muscular arms together.

"Let me guess Psychometry" I asked

"Well someone has done their homework" Mr. Roman laughed

"And yes, you're correct I have the ability to obtain information from a person or object which it includes the ability" he says putting his arms on his hips.

"So, what's my ability?" I asked. Mr. Roman places his hands on either side of my temples and breathed in closing his eyes then breathed out opening his eyes. He quickly let go of me and stepped back I looked at him questionably then at Marcus.

"So?"

"It's…animal Mutation" Mr. Roman said looking at me then he quickly glances at Marcus giving him a weird look but then looked back at me and smiled.

"Nice I've read up on those types of abilities" I said with a smile and he walks away looking almost…frightened?

"what the hell was that about?" I said looking at Marcus and he had the same impression as Mr. Roman, but he then shrugged. As I was about to ask him why the weird expression Mr. Roman began to say that we have an hour to warm up and then we are going to play ultimate tag in the obstacle arena. This means I might have enough time to figure out how to use my power. As we started to warm up, I was trying to remember how to use my power from before. Then suddenly, I figured it out like my inner self was showing me how. I thought if I want this plan to work, I need to know the rules of the game.

"Mr. Roman what are the rules of the game?" I said walking up to him.

"As long as you don't get touched then you are all good but don't kill anyone because I really don't want to write anymore paperwork" he said will a sigh. I gulp at his last words and I walk away I then smile because this means my plan might work.
