"Maggie, you can go home and rest. I'll close the store when I'm done." Her mother said to her after checking the clock and finding out that it was nine at night. 

"No," The young girl refused, "You should go and make dinner. I'll wrap up things here and then head home." 

Her mother's expression was full of concern as she said, "But you need all the rest you can find. Moreover, you're going to school tomorrow. Maggie, you need to rest." 

Maggie bit down on her lips nervously. While the other teachers thought she had been faking her illness and only skipped school to help her mother in the store, the truth was that she had been down with a terrible fever. However, she knew they would judge her mother for allowing her to work even with her illness.
