1 The Birth

~~~(POV: Regina Aevum)~~~
I push and push with all my might. My son is almost here. It's only me now. My sweet husband has died to ensure I give birth in this safe place.
The Aevum family is not known. We've kept hidden for as long as magic has existed. My husband and I are all that's left of our family, and I feel that my son will be the last after tonight.
I scream in pain as the tearing and pressure are unbelievable. I give one big final push, and my son's cries fill the room.
My wand was lost in an effort to get here after my husband's sacrifice. So I have no way to heal my failing body.
The birth has taken too much out of me. I hold my baby in my arms and kiss him multiple times. I have no idea what to do and have no way to send him to a safe place.
"How wonderful..."
I hear a low and hollow voice come from the room's darkness. I hold my baby close as I don't recognize or feel the person's presence.
A second later, a massive creature with black wings and long black robes enters the candlelight. The creature has long bony fingers and a face covered by a piece of cloth.
"What the hell are you!!"
The creature is something I've never seen before.
The Monster walks up to the side of the bed and stands over me in total silence.
"You have no idea how important he is... I can take him somewhere safe, but you must remain here..."
The voice is indescribable. It sounds welcoming and reassuring... But at the same time, something sinister and hidden.
Holding my baby closer, I try to move away from the Monster, but my body is so weak from birth.
"I don't care what you say, Monster. I'll die before I give you my son."
The creature's black wings spread out, and it spreads its arms. A cold feeling embraces me, but I stay awake.
In the second I lost focus, the creature grabbed my son from me.
The creature's boney fingertip engraves a symbol on the back of my baby's neck.
It's the symbol of the deathly hollows.
"You're already nearing demise, but your son, I'll let you name him before you perish..."
The voice is back to the hollow and low sound from the first time. I can feel my life slipping away and reach out for my son. I have no choice. This isn't something I ever dreamed would happen.
Knowing that I'm dying... I should leave him with a name if he's to live.
"Alexander..."
With my final breath, I say the name. Darkness envelopes me, and the world disappears.
~~~(POV: Sister Beth)~~~

~~~(Location St. Mary's Orphanage)~~~
~~~(Date: September 1st, 1979)~~~

~~~(Time: 8:40 PM)~~~
I finish putting away the dishes and look at my fellow sisters. Today the children were a handful, one that I didn't expect.
They're much more energetic than most days, and that's something many of us here dread. I finish the rest of my chores and walk into the living room.
I hear a knock at the door as I check to see if anything else needs to be done.
I open the door at this late time and see no one.
"Mmm..."
I hear a sound below my eyesight and look down to see a baby wrapped in a black blanket. I see a note attached to the baby's blanket.
"To the sisters of St. Mary's Orphanage, please take Alexander Aevum into your care. God, thank your kind hearts. Born September 1st, 1979."
At least the parents were kind enough to give the boy a name before abandoning him here. I take the baby inside and bring him to one of the rooms for infants.
I set him down in a crib and got some formula milk. It looks like we have another child to take care of. I check him for any wounds or scars.
A strange symbol in black ink on the back of his neck is all I find.
I try to wash it off, but that doesn't work. These people tattooed their newborn baby!
~~~(Time: 9:00 PM)~~~

A strange thing happens in a room where a magically floating quill is writing in a book. A black smoke blows across the book's page, an event that isn't part of the normal here.

A foreign being performing a task. A task upon a book that keeps track of magically gifted newborns.

Alexander Aevum's name appears on the page where the black smoke landed. Alexander Aevum, whose family has never attended a magical school and has been hidden and unknown to the world, is being moved as if he's a chess piece.
