Suspicious

Severus has brought up some concerning news regarding our DADA teacher. Professor Quirrell has always been a fidgety man, and from my memory, he was teased an awful amount for his quirks.

I don't see how he can have anything to do with Tom, though. From what I understand, the spell Lily used would protect and warn Harry until his 17th birthday from Tom.

If Voldemort were close by, his scar would burn. That's precisely what happened when he looked toward Snape and Quirrell. Severus isn't in contact with death eaters, and the dark lord is gone.

So why the reaction... A mystery to be solved... It wouldn't happen for no reason at all, either. I need to look into Professor Quirrell more and his recent activities.

It must be handled quickly if anything of a dark nature has happened. The students and Harry are at risk if something is going on here. I stand up from my desk and leave my office.

I head for The Grand Hall since dinner is getting close. The elves should have the food done any minute now, and the hall should be filled with students.

After traversing the halls, I make it to The Grand Hall and head for my seat. Students are slowly coming in as the elves are sending the food out. I look and see Harry with Ronald. I'm glad he's made a friend he can trust.

The Weasleys are a good bunch of people. I look to my right; the only empty seat is professor Quirrell's. Severus and I share a look, and now my suspicions are growing about the DADA teacher.

I look back out into the filling tables, and I spot Alex. He's eating alone. I've seen that he's made some friends despite him being alone at the moment.

Which is good, in my opinion. He's opened up over the years but prefers to be alone.

I watch the Longbottom boy walk up and sit across from him. I tried to ask the sorting hat what it saw when it looked into Alexander's head, but it ignored me and continued to sleep. Alexander's origins are a mystery, and so is his family.

"Headmaster, there are some things I need to speak with you about regarding a student."

I turn my head and see Professor Flitwick. I nod my head for him to speak. He takes a breath and fixes his glasses.

However, it's surprising since the one he wants to talk about isn't the child I thought he would talk about.

"There is a young lady by the name of Hermione Granger. She's a part of Gryffindor and is rather exceptional when it comes to charms. I was hoping I could give her extra work to help her improve?"

Haa, yes... The Granger girl. She's one of the two girls that always seems to be around Alex. They're too young to know much about love, but I wouldn't be surprised if, in a few years, something happens in that triangle.

I'm not in charge of assigning work, and it's up to the teachers if students get more or less. He must want my opinion, and I think it's a good idea.

"You do whatever you feel is right, Professor Flitwick. I trust your judgment."

His reputation as a master spell caster and multi-time champion is highly regarded. Despite how much pure-bloods don't like him, I think there is no one better to be teaching the charms class.

Now that he's got my opinion on the matter, he nods, and I look around the hall. The number of students sitting down and eating has grown.

I look around for the Granger girl, and I see her. She's staring down the table from where she's seated, and the person she's staring at is Greengrass. There is friction, and it'll be there for as long as Alex is in their lives.

None of them knows it, but one day. It'll make sense. Next year or the year after that, it'll start making more sense. Right now, 11 and 12 old children are just beginning to go through changes, and letting them figure things out is the safest for everyone.

There's no reason to get in the middle of anything unless it's gotten too far. But other than that, we stay out of it.
