My eyes slowly open, and I stretch my arms out. It's been fun hanging out with Hermione, but I'll return to the orphanage today. We got to spend three whole days together. I'll be the first to admit it; I'm exhausted.

Hermione and I are good friends, but she has way more energy than I do. When I wanted to sit down and relax for a little while, the next thing I knew, I was getting dragged off.

Hermione's parents were very lovely. She would tell me how afraid and unwelcoming they were of the wizarding world. Apparently, she wore them down enough to let one of her friends from the said world come over to visit for a few days.

At first, they were skeptical of me. After the first day and getting to know me, it was pretty easy for them to see that not all wizards are the same in the wizarding world. It helped them accept me, knowing I was raised in a muggle orphanage.

"You awake, Alex?"

The door to the guest room opens, and Hermione's head pokes through the door. She fully enters without me responding, seeing as I'm sitting in bed.

"Come in, why don't you."

She plops down on the side of my bed with a smile. The same energy that's been running me ragged since yesterday morning is already alive on this early Monday morning.

Sister Bella is coming to pick me up, and she's supposed to be here around 10:00 AM. Hermione's father is already on his way to work since the weekend is over. Her mother stays at home. She has a nice family and a place to live.

"C'mon, we've only got a half hour before Sister Bella gets here."

She's quick to grab my arm and tug me out of bed.

Alex and I are sitting on the porch swing. Enjoying the weather and the relaxing final moments together. It's been great having him here for the last few days. Someone that I know and trust coming to visit is always welcomed.

Mom and Dad really did overcome their fears. I wish I could convince them to let others over, but they only allowed one sleepover this summer. Saying that, it's a good way to start.

Not that I could argue. No sense in getting the opportunity taken away once you've got it by asking for more.

We had breakfast, and now we're waiting for Sister Bella to pull up in a Taxi and take him back to the orphanage. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else other than home. Well, there is Hogwarts, but this place is where I grew up.

Alex doesn't know his parents... I've been meaning to ask... But I've lost the courage over the weekend...

"Can I ask you something..."

The best time to do this is right when he's about to leave. He remains silent for a moment but nods his head regardless.

"You've never talked about your parents... It's probably a rude thing to ask, considering... But do you have any memories of them... You've never talked about the orphanage or your parents with me..."

I'm sounding a lot more meek than I'd like to. Normally, I'm authoritative and get what I want in terms of information. It's different with Alex, though. That doesn't work on him.

Harry and Ron gave me a hard time for a while. I've been working on that, but it's a hard habit to break and one I'm not sure I can function without.

"All I know is they're dead. Sister Beth said she was there the night I was left on the steps. But I know my parents aren't alive, and the person who put me there wasn't one of them."

Wow.

That's... Ominous...

"How do you know they're dead?"

Was he told, or did he research who they were? How would he even do that? Magic?

"My dreams."

A twisting knot forms in my stomach, and I'm about to say something right when a taxi pulls up.

Saved by the bell, Alex.
