Now we can leave unimpeded. Alexander is right behind me. We leave the orphanage, and I hold my elbow to him. He grabs it, and we're transported to Diagon Alley. Alexander has a sick look on his face.

"What was that?"

Apparition. A quick way for wizards to get around. While it's common, it can end badly if not appropriately trained. He'll learn it in time, I have no doubt about that.

I wave my wand, and my clothes change to their normal ones.

"Apparition. It allows the user to instantly transport to any place they have been or can visualize well enough."

I help him up and begin our walk toward Flourish and Blotts so I can get him the books he needs. It's not uncommon for future students to study ahead of time.

We walk into the store, and since it's nowhere near the time for first-years to come and pick up their books, it's relatively quiet and empty.

Flourish is organizing books with magic.

"This is a rare surprise! How are you, Headmaster Dumbledore?"

I smile and have a casual conversation—the typical greeting of an old friend after all this time. As we speak, Alexander roams off and starts picking out random books. Flourish sees this and chuckles.

"I take it you've found an interesting one?"

We watch as he sits down to read from the books he's already picked.

"Do you want me to prepare the normal list of first-year Hogwarts curriculum?"

Alexander will blow through those books before the week is over. I shake my head, take a quill and parchment, and write down books for him.

I'll give him a significant workload, but I doubt it'll keep him busy.

"I want you to give him the books for all seven years at Hogwarts. Once he's done, I'll be back."

Flourish looks at me with a funny look. I've seen the child's mind. He'll memorize all this and finish the books we're getting him.

It'll take two weeks tops for him to get through them all.

Flourish walks away with the long list of books for him. They'll give him an enchanted bag for all of them. I walk over to the table he's sitting at and see the book he's reading.

History of Grindelwald.

"I take it you're more interested in these books than ones you have at home."

He silently nods his head and blasts through the pages.

The world of magic is fascinating, and from this book about a man named Grindelwald, I've come to understand something.

There are cracks and fissures in the magical community. Some of them include Pure-blood superiority.

Others are the domination of the muggle world, and others such as the split between the magical community based on who's from which family and whether they're muggle-borns.

"Why is there such political turmoil in the magical community?"

I ask a simple question of Albus, one that the book doesn't answer.

He sighs and removes his glasses.

"Depends on who you want to look at. Some say it started back to the founding of Hogwarts. Others say it came with the rise of Grindelwald or He-who-shall-not-be-named."

While the answer could be vague, I know it's not. What he's saying is the actions of select, powerful wizards have built up ideals.

Ones that are left behind for others to follow. Take Grindelwald. For example, the waves of his actions still are felt.
