“But yours are all gone now, aren’t they?” she continued as if he hadn’t interrupted. “Shakersville isn’t the same place it was fifty years ago. Nothing’s the same it was fifty years ago. You wouldn’t be going back to face what you left. You’d be going back to help them preserve their history, maybe even help other communities do the same, like Corrine said.
