Chapter 24

“Sure,” she said with a perky smile.

“You can’t be stuffed,” Frank said when they were alone. “You’ve been ogling every piece of pie that went by. I thought for sure you would order a whole one to take back to your room.”

“And give Corrine definitive proof to use against me? Oh, hell no.” He took a deep breath. All the moments when he could’ve been eating with anyone else were gone, because the butterflies in his stomach left no doubt that he was about to jump one of the last remaining hurdles between him and the only man he’d ever loved. It was now or never. “Can you get us back into The Crown without your daughter or that manager of hers hanging around?”

In a flash, all the easiness between them vanished, replaced by an electric current that sent the butterflies into a tizzy. Though he hadn’t moved, Frank went completely still, his gaze honing in on John with such hungry intensity he wondered how on earth anyone could be oblivious to the fact that they were on a date.
