39 Taming the Beast

For a few moments, Daphne stared at him, not sure if he was a mere hallucination or some other trick of this cursed dungeon.

Maybe he was another mirage or hidden monster, or she was just looking at—

A warm embrace wiped away any doubts that she had. He was cold as usual, if not even colder, but as he arms wrapped around her back, she couldn't help but lean closer. Burying her head into his chest, she let out a muffled sigh.

After hearing that cursed heartbeat for so long, even the silence from his chest was almost welcoming.

He finally pulled away, and his gaze was fiery. As he scanned over her body, the anger on his face was unmistakeable, and his eyes were bloodshot.

She flinched, bracing herself for an onslaught of insults and abuse as she closed her eyes.

No, if she had lived through the dungeons thus far, she would not be intimidated by him.

"Princess, please don't ever do that again."
