Chapter 8

Tears in her eyes, bruised face, she ran over to the place where the fire came from. Indeed, she had met her worst nightmare. People were gathered around her house, she clenched her teeth and cried grandmother. Her hands pushed through the gathered crowd to have a look at what was going on, they had to hold her from getting inside the raging flame.

The flaring fire was finally brought to an end by the neighbors around and she ran inside to check up her grandma not withstanding if the building might collapse on her.

Surprisedly, everything was normal and nothing got burnt. Although she couldn't find her grandmother.

What was happening? Why was everything normal?

"It's stun fire" a voice entered the background and soon others began to come in to observe the area.

It was a stunt man who lived next door, he was quite familiar with cases like this. Someone must have used this fake flames to frighten her. However whatsoever explanation he was giving her wasn't bothering her as she needed to see her grandmother.

Most people around were amazed to experience such scene, especially when nothing was destroyed, if this was so, then anyone who inside would be unharmed.

This girl searched everywhere for her grandma and found her sleeping soundly in the bedroom. Was this old woman even aware that their house caught fire which of course was fake or else would have been burnt a long time.

That young man she encountered tricked her and acted like the devil. She groaned in regrets and felt like reversing the clock just to go to his face and say;

"Nice try but your tricks won't work on me!"

He flung the bag in his hand on the couch immediately he got in. Adrian stared at the lighter in his hand and sighed.

The chaos of today had wined him up, he was sure to carry an inhaler just not to be knocked out a such situations. Before coming here, he had to be certain the golds were complete.

His eyes explored this house, which made him smirk, it way to big for a single being, nevertheless the lifestyle of the rich could be something else. They preferred wasting than saving.

With these golds, he could become a billionaire! The thought of that made his heart flutter as he imagined himself living a luxurious lifestyle just as this house was.

"I'm gonna be rich!!" He exclaimed happily and kissed the bag multiple times. Adrian needed to check out the rooms in this place as he haven't got the time to do so.

He was busy running after his treasure chest and had limited time to take a look at this place. Now that he got the chance, he was going to do just that.

The place was a little dusty and needed clean up, but first, he had to kept his treasure chest in a safer place, so as not to lose it again. Then by the morrow, he was going to draft a strategic plan.

He yawned and glanced at the time, it was 10pm and he was feeling hungry. He had no though about what his stomach desired as all he aimed for was the gold.

"Oh no" he wailed yawning again.

Food was one thing he needed to get just to stay alive. All has to do was step out to get something. He had no idea of the nearest grocery store which got him pissed off

"I would hold in until the morning dawn" he assured while cautioning his stomach to stay still for some hours.

His stomach didn't agree to his terms and requested for a consumptious meal yet he was unsecured of the bag which he was going to leave behind.

"Oh man! I wish something would guard the bag for me!" He panic musing and then a though came to him. The neighbors could be of help this time. Perhaps they might help him get someone who delivers meals. It wouldn't be too late for that would it.

He kept staring at where he left the bag of golds, gnashed his teeth and ventured out. Adrian kept kicking his feet slowly on the door step and banging on the door.

It was a dog's barking and ranting that got him annoyed, whosever the occupant was, could they just come out and answer him or he might die out of starvation.

At last, the door knob turned and a little girl stepped outside, she rubbed her eyes with the large bear that suit her weight, examine the man in front of her and suddenly fuss. She wasn't scared who he could be, coupled with the dark outfit he had on, like the vampires.

His ruffled hairs, pale face, dark eyes and battered lips could tell he urgently needed something.

"Stay away from my mom! I hate you guys, don't you have something else to do than visiting her?"

Adrian scoffed and felt like punching that little lips of hers, who does she think he was a stalker?

"Where's you dad?" He asked trying not to yell because it might frighten the little girl.

"Go away!" She snapped and the dog which was invisible began to bark again, he could that animal was kept inside.

"Little girl, something urgent came up..."

"I'm not little, I know what you want, trying to bribe me in but it's not going to work on me" she cuts in and suddenly smirked at him as she could hear his stomach rumble.

"You're hungry?" She asked rhetorically as though didn't understand what his sobber face read. The girl wrapped her arms around the teddy bear, scrutinized him again and asked where he was from.

Adrian scoffed, this little girl was freaking him out, if not this hunger that had restrained him and he just needed one of the adults in this house to attend to his desperate needs and not a kid who was acting like an inspector!

She giggled to herself, beckoned on him to stay outside and hurried to call her mother that a beggar was outside.

"Beggar?" He mused as the little girl screamed those words aloud to his hearings from inside. He wasn't going to waste his time being ridiculed by a child. Rather than being patient, he would find a grocery store, somehow.

He made way for the gate, and just when he was about to open it, a brief wind fanned his face. It was like though someone invisible walked pass him, that was the feeling he got when that sharp wind brush over him and then he heard someone say;

"Boy in black"
