Crash! Crack! Boom!

I sat up, awoken from my sleep to see Matthew asleep next to me. I looked at the window, watching the lightning as rain hit the windowpane. I slid out of bed and walked towards the window. Rain poured outside as I watched the outside become wet.

I jumped with another cracking sound. Then arms slid around my waist as I relaxed.

/"Why are you awake?/" Matthew asked me.

/"The storm woke me up./"

/"Let’s go back to bed./" Matthew removed his arms, taking my hand and leading me back to bed.

I crawled into bed, as did Matthew. We laid down, and I turned to my side to face him. /"Rainstorms reminded me of when I was a kid. My dad would open my bedroom door and yell at me for something I didn’t do. One time, he dragged me out of bed and made me clean the kitchen./"

Matthew furrowed his brows.

/"Sam had enough and left. Britt and I tried to protect each other./"
