When Delvin found hiccup he was, unsurprisingly, playing with the nightfury
The boy had just walked into the cove that the wounded nightfury was held in with a shield and a fish, something that would normally be considered suicidal
Delvin had to admit, that took guts
He watched as Hiccup found himself face to face with the dragon, offering a fish with an open hand and clearly regretting whatever decision led him to this point. Luckily for him, the dragon had far more interest in the fish than in the Viking holding it, so it snapped it out of the boy's hand before swallowing it whole
What transpired from there was honestly both gross and hilarious as Delvin watched the Nightfury, in an act of sharing, regurgitated the back half of the fish into hiccups lap and watched as hiccup, afraid to offend the large killing machine, took a bite and swallowed

For the rest of the day until evening, the boy and dragon went through a game of cat and mouse where Hiccup constantly tried to get closer and touch the dragon while the dragon "toothless" as he seemed to be calling it kept walking away with a grumble
This continued for a few hours until the light of the sun began to dim and hiccup gave up, instead sitting on a rock and drawing on the dirt with a stick. This was apparently the right thing to do as the nightfury soon joined him, taking an entire tree branch and proceeding to dance around with it, creating a giant squiggle of lines around hiccup
Whenever hiccup trod on one of the lines, toothless growled, and whenever he didn't the dragon would just stare at him with those large green eyes of theirs. In a final climax of the evening which admittedly made Delvin wish he had snacks, hiccup slowly traversed the lines, step by step escaping the lines of the drawing and unknowingly bringing himself closer to the dragon. And once he had fully walked past the lines Delvin watched as hiccup found himself starring once more at the dragon and finally laying a hand on its snout, clearly gaining some trust
And once the moment had ended Delvin couldnt help but begin to slowly clap, drawing the attention of the boy and dragon as hiccup went pale as a ghost and toothless sent a snarl in his direction
"Well done hiccup" he offered, giving a small smirk at the boy's expression "i honestly was waiting to see how long it would take until you got eaten," he told him as he gave the nightfury a nod, earning a hiss
"D-Delvinnn what are you doing here?!" hiccup exclaimed as he leaned on a nearby log, trying to play off the fact that there was a giant dragon behind him "I thought you would be with the others, doing Viking this like breaking rocks with your heads or something?"
"Ran out of rocks" he answered smugly, still drawing great amusment from the way hiccup was trying to act natural, sadly however they only lapsed into an akward silence as hiccup stood their uncomfortably and the Dragon beared its teeth
"Toothless" his ass
"Sigh… how the hell are we the same age?" Delvin couldnt help but sigh as looked at the dragon "i mean no harm" he said, causing the dragon to look at him with a glance that said "prove it" and once he chucked a bag of dragon nip towards the dragon, toothless gave him a light growl and nod before instantly chasing after the bag.
"Traitor" hiccup called after the dragon as it began playing with the ball like a cat with a ball of yarn, causing it to give him a flat stair and go back to the bag
"Dragons love the stuff, dulls their aggressive edge instantly, no matter how smart they are" Delvin informed him before taking a seat on a nearby rock "it also helps that i left my halberd outside the cove"
"How do you- how could you know that!" Hiccup demanded of him, before sitting on an adjacent rock with what could be called a scowl
"Oh please," Delvin said, giving a slight wave of his hand "i know tons about dragons, it's why i'm so good at fighting them," he said, causing Toothless to look at him with a growl
"Present company exempted?" he offered causing the dragon to give a snort before returning to its bag of goodies
"How did you find me? Find Him?" Hiccup asked, sounding more than slightly panicked
Delvin couldn't help but give him an incredulous look as realized hiccup had forgotten all about him "dude i was there the night he got shot down!" he couldnt help but say, pointing at the dragon, slightly frustrated "how the hell did you forget about me? I literally saved your ass from a monstrous nightmare"
"Ohhhhhh" hiccup let out, looking sheepish
"Yeah" Said Delvin dryly

"You're not going to tell anyone are you?" hiccup asked, sounding slightly terrified, which was kind of fair seeing as you could only imagine what would happen if stoick found out that his son was a dragon sympathizer
"No one to tell" Delvin answered "Every adult in the village aside from gobber and a couple of merchents are out searching for the nest with stoick, even if i wanted to tell people about your little pet dragon, no one could do anything" he shrugged nodding towards the direction of the woods "besides i have my own reasons for not wanting people in raven point"
"Soooo" Hiccup began with a sigh as he shifted nervously "what is that you want?"
"For you to stop being an idiot" Delvin grumbled, letting his irritation into his voice "and start acting like the chiefs son"
"Huh?" hiccup exclaimed, even toothless looked over
"You're the son of the chief, you represent all of us" Delvin began, tapping hiccups head aggressively as he spoke "when you do bad you make all of us look bad and all you do is make the village worry about its future"
"So what am i supposed to do about that!?" hiccup exclaimed clearly upset by his words "I'm not like the rest of you!"
"Then don't be! Use your brain! Learn about dragons and use that knowledge to shine in the arena!" Delvin ordered him, getting to his feet "i have no interest in being in the same generation as hiccup haddock the worst of the Vikings"
"Either you start making the village proud or i tell them about your friend here," Delvin said, pointing towards toothless, who gave him a deadly glare
"And why does my progress matter to you!?" hiccup asked also standing, although he was nowhere near Delvin's height "you don't need me and you don't need me to be a better killer"
"But Berk does" Delvin answered before walking away with a limp "Berk needs good news to support them, when Stoik comes back with no news of the nest and dozens of dead mothers and fathers, Berk will need something to raise morale"
"So be the good news for once"
