The Great Magic Era

In the world of Aureum there are 3 main continents, the vast Verdant, the ancient Antana and the land of gods, Midrass. Since the fall of the ancient elven empire of Lefheim 5000 years ago, the once unified continent of Verdant was now fractured in many nations, all in constant war with one another, where only the strong can carve it's own place amongst the victors, leaving the weak to be forgoten, only to be found as footnotes in the books of history. The Headless Dragon's Struggle II (part 2).

In the darkness of the night, both Claus and Rebecca leaned into each other. As the remained seated in the bed, no words were said betweend them, as they simply enjoyed this moment in an embrance.

"You are really unfair, you know?" Said Rebecca.

"Mmmn!?"

"3 years of waiting, only tonbe kissed just about I'm about to die" despite her gloomy words coming out of her mouth, she was smiling.

"It's not that i didn't wanted to return these feelings, all this time i just felt like i wasn't good enough for you, that's part of the reason i avoided you" said Claus, opening his heart to Rebecca by lyign bare all of his thoughts and insecurities for her to see.

"Hehe, you cannot run away from me anymore"~ Rebecca.

"That's an awful sense of humor you got there"~ Claus.

"Really?"~ Rebecca.

"Yeah, a little creepy to say something like that, now of all times" said Claus as his hand held Rebecca's.

"Oh! But I'm not joking though!" Replied Rebecca as her head rested over Claus's chest, hearing hus heartbeat.

"Mmmn, maybe you're right, hehe!"~ Claus.

*Steps* *steps*.

".....!".

".....!".

Suddenly the sound of steps hitting the pavement reached the couple ears.

*Squeeze*.

Claus felt the strenght of Rebecca's hand as she hold his, then turning her directly at him, he looked at her face for one last time, decided to engrave all the details of her, from her eyes to her eyelashes down to her nose and lips, he did so until he had burned her image into his soul.

Embracing her one more time he whispered:

"They're here!"

"Umm" was Rebecca's response, unwilling to let go.

Eventually they separated as the sounds of the steps kept getting closer.

"Do you have any mana left?" Asked Claus, trying to look through the window in an attempt to get a clear look at the enemy.

"Most of it, it was a waste trying to heal with how serious my wounds are. Why do you ask?" Replied Rebecca with a nod.

"They probably ha mages among their ranks. If we want to make the most amount of damage possible, we need to be difficult to pinpoint, we have an advantage due to our position. Although not as strong as the main fortress wall, these buildings are contructed using blackstone also, we can use them to protect us from the spells they could throw at us" explained claus in a whisper, as he tried to better hear the sounds coming from outside.

"Can you cover the main road along with the buildings in fog?"

"Is not anything difficult of i only use my mana" replied Rebecca.

"Do it!"~ Claus.

"Oh spirits of water and mist".

"Hear my call".

"Create a dense screen to shield us from our enemies sight".

"BRUMA!"[1].

Just as Claus asked, Rebecca began, conjuring a dense fog, covering most of the living quarters and part of the road.

"Done, though this is gonna rise the suspicion of the enemy" said Rebecca as she ended with her spell.

"It's good as long as we can confuse them, they are forced to go through the gate if they want to reach the middle section anyways" replied Claus, not botered by having alerted the enemies, he knew that due to the darkness of the night and their distance even if they could see someone casted an spell, they'll never be able to locate them.

"When the enemy reach bellow us, wait for my signal and conjure as much ice as you can to lock them into place, it doesn't have to last, only long enough so they can't avoid the bombs we throw at them" explained Claus.

-------------------------------------------------------

At the same time, as Claus prepared for the ambush, so did everyone else.

Everyone except one.

Lorh, the guy who broke into tears, clamoring that he didn't wanted to die. He was currently seated at the gate in the middle of the main road, he also didn't took with him any bombs, completely disarmed, he awaited for the arrival of the enemy troops.

When he heard the sound os steps at a distance, he waited.

Despite being terrified as the beats of his own heart growed to drown any other sounds, while the enemy kept getting closer, he waited.

Even as his insticts were screaming at him to get up and run, he still waited.

And then...

He didn't need to wait anymore, as the shadows of the invaders were close enough to be seen even through the fog.

"Took your sweet time eh? motherfukers! My butt is all sore for having waited so long" Lorh bellowed as the enemies stood before him.

"Hmmmn!!?" Confusion filled the minds of the invaders as they looked at Lorh with curious gazes.

(What's that idiot doing?) Was the thought that all of his companions shared.

"Lorh, that imbecile. He's acting as bait" whispered Claus.

Despite blocking the path of the enemy, they didn't attack, instead from among the middle of their formation, a path opened and a man in black robes came, surounding him was a group of soldiers acting as his guards.

"Who goes there?" Asked the man in black robes, his voice carried a innate sense of authority.

"Who goes here?" Lorh visage twisted into a sneer.

"Nobody goes anywhere, because none of you lot are making it past this point today!" The words coming of Lorh's mouth were full of mockery.

"Do you know who you're talking to right now?" Said the black robed man, clearly displeased by Lorh.

"And do you know me?" Replied Lorh, making an exagerated gesture by flailing his arm around. Thing which the robed man found confusing, but that Claus and the other understood as a signal.

"It is i! Your father, I've decided to be merciful today so better be grateful, feel free to grovel at my feet and beg for forgiveness".

"Kill this filthy piece of trash. It is obvious left him behind, hes only wasting our time, once we finish with him, we'll bring his corpse around, that way when we catch to his friends they can reunite in death" clearly enreaged by Lorh's mockery the robed man ordered his execution.

Seeing as a couple of armored soldiers approached him, Lorh didn't even flich as he instead started to laugh manically.

"Hahaha (x5)".

"At my signal, in 3... " Said Claus as he watched everything unfold.

"I hope all of you burn eternally in hell".

"2..."

"You all are nothing but a herd of Half-bloods pieces of shit" exclaimed Lorh in rage as he was pinned to the ground, forced to kneel before his executioners.

"... 1, now"

"Spirits of ice and cold".

"Turn this soil into a land of desolation".

"And bring upon it the white mante of the eternal winter".

"TUNDRA!!!".

Instanly, a thick layer of ice formed in the main road, frozing everyone into place, completely takin the enemy by surprise.

(So that clown wasn't the mage that conjured the fog!) Was the last thought of the robed man.

At the same time, dozens of projactiles were thrown at tge troops from different places, exploding by contact, and raining hell upon the enemies.

*BOOM* *BOOM*

*BOOM* *BOOM*

*BOOM* *BOOM*

For a couple of minutes, dozens of melting bombs deronated among the desoriented enemy soldiers, iluminating the Dragon's head with the blazing might of flames hot enough to melt even steel.

And amidst the flames, the howls of pain of it's victims echoed into the night.

[1] i don't know if any of you have noticed yet, but there are people who use magic without even needing to chant, and you know what, I'm not gonna explain it yet. Only letting you all know ahead of time that there's an explanation, but you're welcome to try and surprise me with your guesses.

ummn... melting bombs go BOOM BOOM.
