The Great Magic Era

In the world of Aureum there are 3 main continents, the vast Verdant, the ancient Antana and the land of gods, Midrass. Since the fall of the ancient elven empire of Lefheim 5000 years ago, the once unified continent of Verdant was now fractured in many nations, all in constant war with one another, where only the strong can carve it's own place amongst the victors, leaving the weak to be forgoten, only to be found as footnotes in the books of history. Dawn of the Gods.

With the creation of the 5 stars academy, a new unprecedent glorious era for magic began in Verdant, in later years many of its former students would gain fame through their discoveries, bringing new theories and changing the way magic itself was used thorough the continent, while others astonished tye world with their feats, obtaining great status and becoming part of legends being told for generations.

The policy of the academy, of accepting any individual, indifferent of background and race as long as they were talented enough would end up with the academy, every now and then, nurturing some exceptional mages.

Historians decribe the time of the 5 stars academy as the era of the new Gods, being the academy itself depicted as Verdant's holy ground for learning magic. Among the legends of the academy, there's the one about 11 great students who later on successfully ascended to Godhood and became immortal Gods.

"In this new era, the power of Gods can't be constrained by the rules of the mortal world, for they've trascended to an existential plane well beyond that".

-Records of the God of Combat and War-1249 S.C.

With the birth of new Gods, the ever present threat that the elves possed to the 5 powers was diminishing as time passed, but the impact that it brought to the delicate balance of power en Verdant, was in fact, massive. For a time having a God ascend from a race wasn't only about the status they brought to the whole race, but also as a symbol of power and prosperity, assuring peace.

Eventually, with the accumulation from thousands of years, and the countless legacies left behind by the hands of many generations of students and professors, the 5 stars academy officially declared its indepence, cutting its ties with the 5 races and becoming an private organization. Of course this wasn't an arbitrary decision, but was something made by the members of the academy as a way to preserve what they belived was its original purpose.

Separation would be a more precise term to decribe the process, for thousands of years after its creation, the academy became the source of magical talents that, after graduation would serve as valuable warriors and researchers, recibing the full support and financing from the 5 powers to assure its growth. But it came with a price, that being its lack of autonomy, for it was constantly under the supervision of the 5 powers.

In the begining, the joint administration of the academy was used as a means to properly mantain the operations, but as the years passed, and each of the 5 races grew in power and influence, the tensions within the alliance started to get out of hand once again.

Although bount by the peace treaty, the armonious relationships the 5 powers mantained in the surface were only a cover, for in the shadows, tye amount of political schemes and power struggles for wealth and territory became a dialy occurrence.

This fighting and scheming eventually made its way into the academy, and the once paceful environent was destroyed. The academy and its students were simply used as proxies to flaunt the influence of the 5 races betweend each other.

To distance itself from the chaos brought by the internal conflict of the alliance, the academy decisively cut ties.

By separating themselves from the alliance, the academy gained tye ability to govern itself, and now as an independent, neutral organization, they were no longer bound by the restrictions imposed by their former masters, being capable of expanding their branches to all of Verdant and beyond, and recruitung steudents from all races equally, including elves.

As a new reformed organization, the academy once again reopened its doors, changing its name to the "Ourusan Magic Institute" in honor of "Archane God Gidon", master of the White Scepter[1], the current director at the time.

With the rise of new Gods, factions under them also made their appearance, this of course, created inmense friction within the alliance of the 5 powers. This situation eventually growed out of control, leading to the dissolution of the alliance, every race going in their own separate ways, but even the 5 five race themselves couldn't remain united as they also experienced a fracture, disvanding into many small powers.

By then, Verdant became a melting pot mixed with all kinds of new rising factions, all in constant wars for power and territory.

In this new period, the power and territory of each faction was measured by the amount of high end combat power they have, being the truly powerful the ones with a God as their patron Deity.

In the later period of the Star Calendar, betweend the years of 1700-1830. The remnants of the former 5 powers alliance relocated their territory under the 3 way mountain range ind the midland territory of Verdant, and adopted the name of the Federal States Alliance.

Whilst all of this was happening, dozens of new kingdoms rose in the northern plains and the western wildlands. Most of the elven monarchies that refused to join the new holy empire fell while a couple still remained strong in both the north and the west.

In the subsequent years of 1831-1918 S.C. Verdant experienced its first holy war where more than 7 countries and 4 different Gods fought leaving behind the terrifying figure of more than 350.000.000 deaths.

The war was eventually known as the "Desolation War" and brought to fame the name of Lucios Argento, the God of Light and former Archmage of the Baltran Kingdom, now known as Dawn Kingdom. The first holy war destroyed most of the northern plains, leaving only some stronger and smaller nations, it also marked the end of the Star Calendar (S.C) and the begining of the Human Calendar(H.C) respectively.
