Chapter 9— They’re all dead!

It seemed as if there was no one else to murder, finally he saw me. I could feel his yellow eyes on me.

"King Kufu!", I commanded his attention, he was greatly angered, he snarled and roared at me. My legs took me faster than I imagined, it flew me into the secret hut. I shook with fear and anger. He had to pay, that demon had to pay!

I prepared a thorn trap, a trap with large, wooden, carved out spikes. It would embrace him at the door and pierce through the murderer.

He had been sprinting behind me during the race, now he seemed to have lost track of me, I could see him searching in his misery. He just kept on howling with his head tilted upwards to the sky.

I threw a stone in his direction to awaken his attention, as soon as he saw me, the beast went crazy. With all the blood thirst and madness in him, he ran towards the entrance of the hut. I was ready to kill the beast!

I stood back into the hut, holding the door with a huge rubber rope tied around the trap door like a sling shot.

The beast flung himself towards the door with the aim of tearing me apart, that was the time to give him the big blow. I let go of the torn trap, slinging it straight at him, as quick as I could believe, the creature's purplish skin was pierced out through his body to its back bone. He had six spikes in him. This time, it was his own blood gushing out. His ugly mouth opened wide, his yellow eyes turned red, bleeding down his face , he was stuck with his arms and legs hanging apart as if something had 'paused' him. And that was it!

Aware of the beast's fate, the dripping sweat on my skin began to dry up, now I could feel the presence of the cooling breeze sweeping my skin. I fell down to the ground on my buttocks, feeling tired. I cried. I sat there for hours, afraid of everything, of every emotion in me, afraid of my own reality.

There was a sense of courage in me now. I arose, pushed aside the beast and the door way from the entrance. I went into the village still in search of my mother.

I found her still alive, her skin torn to the bone from her neck to the ribs. I pulled her up on laps, she was so weak.

"Mother, you'll be fine, I'm here now", I wept.

"My dear Kara, I'm sorry we-- we should've listened to you, I'm -- glad you're alive".

"No Mother, don't say that", I sniffed.

"Kara, your father and I love you very much, I can't--- the pain--- it's too much", she cried.

"Mother please don't leave me",

"There's a nearby village, go to them". Those were the Last words of Kuroa.

I couldn't let her go, so I stayed with her, with all of them, till the next day.

My rumbling stomach woke me up, alone in the midst of dead bodies. I stood up, went into our hut and fed me some breakfast. I summoned up the courage to bury Kane and my Mother at the back of our hut, it me hours and I couldn't dig so deep. Stones aligned their graves all round, there was nothing to say only pain.

I couldn't stay much longer, I couldn't bear to be alone, I packed for the journey to an uncertain new land, and began the long trek in a scary forest.
