to be with you

"DO YOU BELIEVE ME NOW?"

Aubrey stares blankly at him; her lips parted open and eyes fixated on him. She then turns her head to gaze at the ocean. "You have killed the fishes in there."

Connor frowns, "So?"

"Is that how you kill living things? People need fish and water to—" Before she gets the chance to panic, Connor snaps his fingers and everything is back to normal.

She gasps, seeing how the ocean is back to being windy and the waves hitting again. Her eyes dance around; amazed by it.

"If you think that is bad, just know that Kai is capable of doing much worse if he gets to you."

Aubrey sighs, having her gazing-on-the-ocean moment ruined.

Kai.

She is starting to get irritated by the name.

"So, you're saying this is all real?" She asks again.

Connor looks to her hands that are still cuffed behind her, "Uncuff."

The handcuffs immediately come off her hands. She is instantly terrified by it as she gasps loudly, staring at her hands and Connor simultaneously.

The terror and her fast-beating pulse cause her to become ignorant of the cold.

Aubrey starts to put the pieces together. "You can command things to happen the way you want?" She takes several steps back.

At this moment, she cannot act brave or act like she is not spooked. A higher being stands right before her with the ability to take her life and everyone else around her.

"The cut on your hand. It healed faster than normal, didn't it?" Connor asks.

He seems to enjoy answering her questions indirectly. Aubrey looks down on her right palm, seeing how clean it is, like she didn't get hurt by the glass on the day of the robbery.

"Well, it wasn't that deep." She answers, rubbing a thumb over the area.

"No, we did that."

Her lip parts open. Connor makes a step to come closer but Aubrey moves back. He stays silent observing how frightened she is, then decides not to make any further progression towards her.

"You can think of me as your guardian angel, since that is what you humans call it."

Aubrey's eyes are solely fixed on Connor like she is meeting him for the first time. From her lost and pale expressions, Connor isn't certain she is paying attention to what he says.

"Now that they know Kai can get to you and eventually, he will. They want to keep the realms safe and get rid of you." He speaks, "They got rid of the most powerful piece of Kai centuries ago, they will get rid of you too, just so he won't obtain full power. You're the missing piece that is going to make him more powerful and once he has that, that would be the death of us. So right now, you're their biggest threat."

The sea breeze hits them, creating a calm feeling that contradicts the tense atmosphere between the two.

"We bring doom, happiness, peace, misfortune and misery. We control everything that happens around, the same way we watch over humans and decide who is to die and who lives."

His words make Aubrey gasp.

"We have also watched you, Aubrey."

Aubrey looks away from him, unable to keep her eyes steady.

"When we discovered that Kai's missing piece was in you, we wanted to take your life immediately; plan your death and get rid of you- the threat. But I wanted you to live."

She shivers. She cannot tell if it's from the words Connor speaks or from the cold. Her hair still doesn't stop moving wildly from the wind but that is the least of her problems.

Connor explains. "So, you have to be kept away from him. You cannot go back to your family, you would only be a threat."

"No." Aubrey whispers, pushing hands into her hair as she grips them tight. She ties to yank herself out of this horrible dream, but it isn't a dream. "No, this isn't true." She begins crying from how crazy everything sounds.

She only wants to go home. And blend back into her boring college and work life.

Aubrey lets out a piercing scream when Connor suddenly appears in front of her. "Aubrey listen. Kai would kill everything else just to get what you took from him. He won't care if they are your loved ones!"

"I didn't take anything from him!" Aubrey yells back at him. Her tears stop and she looks straight at him. "Just kill me then. To keep your brother away from the last piece, to prevent the world's destruction, kill me. I hate my life anyways; I have suffered too much."

Suddenly, they are back to the Mansion Aubrey initially escaped from. Connor pushes Aubrey to sit on the family sized bed.

"Stop talking rubbish." He responds to her sad speech.

Aubrey sits quietly, many thoughts running through her mind. She isn't sure what she is thinking all she knows is that, her life has turned upside down.

"I'll be back. Let me fix something for you to eat, you must be hungry after all of that."

Connor waits a moment for Aubrey to answer but she doesn't say anything with her head facing her thighs; in a miserable posture. He then turns to leave the room when he doesn't get a reaction from her.

Walking out, Aubrey stops him. "Connor." She calls out in a strong tone which surprises him.

He slowly turns around, a straight look angled at her.

"You said you all are lost gods and got thrown out." She begins, staring deep into his eyes as if she has found a fault in the stories he tells.

Connor doesn't answer but Aubrey continues.

"What was your offence?"

The simple question throws Connor off-guard but he does not show it in his expression.

"You must have done something bad to get you thrown out." She walks a little closer to him. "I know of the woman that gave birth to Kai. She was cast out because of her envy and greed for power," She pauses.

The atmosphere thickens with her questions gliding through the air.

"But what was your offence? What did you all do?" She pierces her eyes through him.

He claims to be virtuous and capable of protecting her from evil when he might be the real evil.

One thing Aubrey doesn't understand; they are all evil. Kai just happens to be worse than evil.
