For our Love

With a newfound sense of sadness, I was starting to accept the fact that she was gone. Each day we searched for a way, planning, deciding. And each day I went to sleep more emotionless than the last. I knew I was moving on, but my mind wasn't ready to. Everything in my being screamed at my body to do something. I didn't cry, I didn't break. But for some small reason I felt like it would be easier if I did.

The dawn brought a new day, new opportunities to find ways to get her back. I knew after the time we wasted we would be too late, and now we really were doing what we promised to her father. "Bringing her back for our ceremony." It seemed so far away, like I knew she'd truly be lost forever.

More days passed, day changing to night like the tides. We were almost fully repopulated, waiting for Kaida's return to fill her spot. Everyone knew she was gone, it was more a form of respect.

I woke to the violent shaking of my body, and Amaya's voice, high and light, yelling in my ear.

"We're bringing her home!" She screamed and raced out of the fairy quarters. Technically she wasn't supposed to be in there, but they probably bent the rules a little for this occasion. I shot out of bed, running down the halls, searching for Kaida's father, who when I saw again was waiting at where the portal had originally been opened. A dull shimmer the color of cotton candy was in front of him.

"How?" I said in bewilderment, as I saw the beautifully sculpted Earth shimmering inside the glassy film.

"Let's just say you aren't the only friends I've made in my time. They finally communicated back," He answered, a peak of hope hinting the edges of his lips.

I looked closer now, seeing the arches of the old church we'd been in before.

"Let's bring Kaida home," His voice which had once been intimidating, turned soft and deep. "For our love."
