Enemies

Another door slammed. It was loud, ricketting like metal. Footsteps followed soon after. I stayed wearily where I was, feeling the confidence of the use of my legs reaching my head. A tiny figure approached me, with a sinful, and jealous look looming on him like cologne. Goblin. I'd heard of them before, but never seen one. The history was true, they were quite atrocious.

When he talked his voice imitated his features better than I could have imagined.

"Ah yes, the pretty little girl I've been looking forward to messing with," His lips parted, an expression of cruelty in his eyes, "Too bad I can't ask the questions here. They want you to know everything. I think it's quite petty and pathetic, and that's coming from me."

I tried to butt in, but he hushed me.

"My time to talk, sweetie. I don't get long before you start. Don't have many friends here, so you'll have to do," He went full fledged into the entire life history on why he was even here, a lot of it useless. Long story short, he's a pig, a money hog. He's only here cause they're paying.

"Alright. You've been a terrible listener. But, I'm only here for one reason. What do you wanna know?" His face changed again, boredom dawning it.

My mind raced with questions, each whizzing by and fizzling out before reaching my lips, but one stayed.

"How?" I breathed, my voice airy and dry.

"There are many questions, hun. You gotta be more specific," He scoffed.

"I have my own theories, but I want to hear from you. How did they outsmart us and our ancestors?" I questioned.

He stifled a laugh, "Don't make it sound like it's so hard. No wonder they despise you," He paused, thinking for a second, "It's probably as you thought it was. Quite easy to figure out, once you have the pieces you need."

I thought again, questions now easily racing to be answered. They flew out, the answers mostly brief, and all sort of obvious.

There was only one I had left now.

"Since you won't answer who, why? I know most of them just want to terrorize Earth and have free reign, but why didn't they just kill us?" I asked.

"They left you alive because apparently you have beef with them. That is all they told me on the situation."

Enemies? Almost everyone was enemies with us and wanted to kill us. This must be more personal.

Way more personal.
