Audition for the female lead

Lemme bring you back to the Literature lessons that happened after Lyn completed her script till before Devon lost his memory..

"Ah, wonderful!" Mr Zin looked in amazement, pleasantly surprised at the script.

He actually wanted to get everyone to audition for whatever role they wanted, till he saw that there was a character named 'Devon'.

He crossed his brows and frowned as he recalled Lyn accidentally exclaimed a line from the script from being.. too excited? Too immersed in acting as the protagonist? Mr Zin wasn't sure but at that time, he only noticed the key words 'crazy lunatic', 'in love' instead of the name 'Devon'. It was only when he saw the script did he had a recollection that 'Devon' is not only a real student but also a character in the play.

Since it is awkward to ask other people to audition for 'Devon' when there is a student named 'Devon', he decided to let Devon decide. After all, he is also part of the winning pair for the storyline.

"No thanks, Mr Zin, I think I'm bad at acting" was Devon's reply.

Yet, if someone else was to act as Devon, they will be under immense pressure as compared to other roles as the real Devon will watch how they portray him. Just his presence was enough to make others mindful of their actions. Whoever who dared to act as him was simply fearless. However, no one in the class have that much courage. As such, the whole class, including Mr Zin, tried persuading Devon himself to play the role of 'Devon'.

Initially, he remained insecure about his ability and potential to act. That is until someone important (to him) spoke up.

"You shouldn't underestimate yourself. What's more, you haven't even tried yet you decided to give up?! Haizz..how can you not even have some faith in yourself when the class already bet their whole fortune that you will be fine?" Lyn's disappointed tone made Devon felt that he was in the wrong. As such, he agreed to try acting as 'Devon', although he himself is Devon.

Hmm..

Eh actually..why not?

Anyway there's nothing to lose in trying right?

"Fine, I'll do it..

But, if I really suck at this, you must find someone to replace me!" After contemplating, he finally agreed to it.

The class cheered in unison for Devon. Although most of them were just classmates or acquaintances, they are still happy for him although for different reasons. The guys are happy as they knew it takes a lot for Devon to step out of his comfort zone to interact with people, and acting requires him interact with people a lot, even forcing him to say whatever the script says, portray whatever feelings his character should feel according to the script etc. All these are definitely not easy for an introvert and socially-awkward person like Devon hence, the guys admired him for taking up the challenge against himself.

The girls, on the other hand, saw this as an opportunity for them to get close to Devon. In real life, for most girls to speak to Devon- no, even just to make eye contact with him was already harder than making pigs fly. Now, they just have to get the role of the protagonist to fulfil their dreams of making eye contact with him, talk to him and even get him to smile at them! But since almost all the girls had the same thought, the competition for the female lead was very competitive.

Since among all the girls that auditioned for the female lead, none of them were lacking in any aspects; looks, acting ability, ability to memorise script etc. You name it, they've got it

As such, they decided to pick the female lead based on the amount of chemistry they had with Devon. However due to time constrain, they had to push the 'chemistry' test to their next Literature lesson, which is today, 26/03/18, Tuesday..

Since Devon who is supposed to be a director yet has became an actor, Mr Zin took over his role as director. That also ensures that the judgement given is not biased but fair and square, leaving everyone satisfied.

...

Actually since Devon and Lyn are the winning pair for the play, they are both directors and have a say in who should get what role. However, Lyn was not in the right mind today. She was absent-minded and not focused on the play. When people are auditioning for the role of the protagonist, she did not even look at the candidate that was auditioning! Seeing that Lyn was not in the right state of mind to judge fairly, Mr Zin removed her from being a director temporarily and made her prepare to audition for the protagonist since whoever that becomes the female lead affects Devon's acting directly hence it is compulsory for every girl to audition as the female lead.

To be fair, everyone will be graded based on how they say the line "I'm a crazy lunatic that is in love with Devon!"

"I-I'm in love with Devon, a crazy lunatic.." the first girl that auditioned froze, realising that by jumbling up the lines, she had unintentionally changed the meaning of the line. Embarrassed, she self-eliminated herself

"I'm a crazy lunatic that's in love with Devon!" the second girl was smooth with the line, yet she was too unsure of herself when she acted. It made the audience see her as herself instead of seeing her as the protagonist. Obviously, she was out too.

"I'm a crazy lunatic..that's in love with Devon.." the third girl broke out in cold sweat, realising that Devon's intense stare was too much for her to handle, it was impossible to work together.

"Cut! You need to make eye contact with him!"

"What are you mumbling? Say clearer!"

"Slow down! Why do you sound like you are gonna die and that that line will be the last thing you'll say?"

"Don't look down! Look at the person you're in love with!"

With that, almost all the candidates were eliminated, leaving with only Lyn left.
