129 Stealing a glimpse

The carriages' wheels span faster as the horses could now pull them without any barriers after the bumpy, rocky roads had passed.

Leaning against the carriage wall, Joanna closed her eyes while listening to the rhythm of horses' hooves striking the paved road. Since their surroundings were predominated by the limited presence of light, which limited her visibility, it was the only thing she could do while counting the time to arrive at the inn.

But Joanna soon opened her eyes and pulled away from the carriage wall when sleepiness returned, almost taking over her consciousness once again.

Letting out a sigh, Joanna rubbed her eyes, as if trying to wake them up so that she would not get back to sleep as the inn would be reached anytime soon.

Aside from that, she was worried that if she had gone into a deep slumber like a dead log once again, someone would carry her inside the inn rather than waking her up.
