Chapter 29

Title: Desperate...

….

As Lily looks at Alex, she can clearly see that he seems to be jumpy about something. She gives him a side glance and in the end sits down on the bed.

"What are you going to do?" She asks, curious about his next action.

Alex doesn't answer her questions, instead, he just goes to the door and takes out his wooden wand with a blue crystal at its tip.

He bites his thumb emotionlessly and puts some blood at the tip of his wand.

<Blood Freeze>

Immediately a red mist comes out of his wand and it hits the door, forming a red translucent ice-like crystal that covers the whole door.

"Are we in danger?" Asks Lily once more.

But Alex doesn't answer her, he just glances at her. He just had to freeze the door shut he knows that Lily got the answer already.

Speaking too loud would only implicate things further. Alex doesn't sigh or give any sign of outward emotion, his body language trying to convey to Lily what he isn't saying.

"Go to sleep." Says Alex simply, as he takes the chair from one of the desks and sits down. He is looking directly at the door, he had a wand in one hand and a knife in the other.

Lily's eyes finally dawn in realization, she understands what Alex is trying to express to her. 'We aren't alone in here.'

She now understands what must be done. She pulls out her red dagger stealthily and puts it under her pillow, keeping a hand on it at all times.

She closes her eyes and goes to sleep, she knows that resting will help her stay up at night, as currently, it's morning.

….

While that was happening, Lancel, the red-robbed middle-aged mage looks at the kids and puts them in their room. He was the only one of the mages on the ship to not have noticed Alex and his power. Lancel didn't have a clear view of him due to his view being obstructed by his fellow mages.

"Well, remember, if you can't find me. You can ask a member of the crew to help you with something." Explains Lancel. "Food will be delivered to your room every day during select hours."

Of course, he only said so because he doesn't want the kids to come and bother him anymore. He already has his eyes on his next willing test subjects, they are two especially poor kids who want to send money to their parents who are farmers in a village who recently had a drought.

'I am really lucky to find desperate ones like these.' Lancel is in quite a good mood due to this. Human Experimentation might be illegal even in the Magic Academy, but if the patient was willing to do it, then everything is okay.

He planned to have the kids sign magical decade binding contracts that would allow him to have the kids in his palm. He can experiment with them till their death… because he isn't letting the kids live. Who knows, they might come back for vengeance so he has already decided to kill them because no matter how unlikely it is, no Mage would take a chance like that.

'I can't wait to get off this shìty ship.' Contemplates the man, as he walks back to his room with his red robes billowing behind him.

His plan was already completed and he got some clueless kids under his control, so to him, the rest of the trip is just a useless waste of time.

'I won't have to do this for another seven years if I am careful with my new test subjects. Hopefully, I can now break into Rank 3 with this.' Ponders the man, a Mage's life is all about research and learning. If he had the Game Interface, he would be able to see that researching this for collective years raises his intelligence stat.

He walks up and arrives at the room with the letters on it. These are all rooms with important personnel in them. He goes into the room with the letter 'M' on it. As he enters there he sees a man wearing a green marine uniform. The man has black slicked-back hair and a thick mustache. He has a desk in the middle with a map of the Human Continent.

In a peninsula, north of Gungai City lies marking for the Magic Academy, south-west of Gungai City, in another peninsula, lies a forest with the name Elf Forest written into it.

This man is the captain of the ship and even though his strength might not be much. He has quite a bit of authority, is loyal to the Headmistress, and has the skills to manage a ship. Even the Mages onboard wouldn't dare do anything to him.

That cautious and intolerable woman at the top will squash them like bugs as soon as she sees any action that indicates betrayal.

"So, how is the situation?" Asks Lancel.

The captain looks at him, frowns, and takes out a cigarette lighting it.

Lancel nods at that, the cigarette lighting was the signal that the old man (Van) was listening in on them. Many people on this ship have their agenda, even the captain of the ship had his own. That was why he is working with the Mage in front of him, though he still has an untrusting look on his face.

He doesn't trust Lancel at all, because the mage would betray anyone in a heartbeat if it suited him. Of course, the captain would do the same too. Their plans ran almost linear to each other, so they don't mind working together for a while.

"The crow has started to move." Says the captain, his voice horace like he hadn't drunken water for days.

"I see." Said Lancel as he turned back and walked out of the room.

….

As he did so, the captain was back in the room as he looks at Lancel walking away. Suddenly out of the shadows in the corner of the room, a humanoid figure is morphed. The man has an elderly appearance with a white beard and gray hair. This is old man Van, the same person who escorted the children inside.

"So, did he believe it?" Asks Van, not having seen anything, as he was within the shadow. Spells like that always had weaknesses, and thus spell didn't allow the user to see the outside while it was in usage.

The captain nodded. The look on his face was the same as when he was talking with Lancel. He is hard to read even by mages as his face always looks the same as if he was just another machine in this ship.

Van and the captain have a deal too, and the old man paid quite a lot to make this man's dream come true.

….

As this was all happening, Alex is still in his room just looking at the door as his perception is at his limits.

*knock* *knock* *knock*...

As soon as the sound is heard by Alex, he has all of the attention at 100% as he asks. "Who is there?"

Then on the other hand Alex stood up and pointed both his wand and life at the door lade.
