5 05: Challenger

A month later, the village council come together so they could elect a new leader. Three leaders suggest Riswan takes over since leadership is in his tribe while the other three go against the decision in defense that Riswan has a daughter who is troublesome and a bully. The head of the council decides to take the matter to Riswan and his family.

The next day, the council go to Riswan's house, when they knock at the door, Mable opens it. She greets them and asks them why they came to the house, "hello sirs, may I know why you have come to my house so early in the morning?"

One of the opposing council member tries to take the situation to his advantage, "you see what I told you all this girl doesn't have respect for her elders whatsoever!"

The council head ignores all that his fellow council member said,"young lady we are here to see your father "

Mable let's the men in and offers them seats. Riswan walks in and the council members discuss with him why they came. They later tell him that he should have someone to succeed him when he retires. Riswan calls out Tony who is back home to visit his family, he asks Tony if he would like to be his successor but Tony tells Riswan he is not interested. The council leaves Riswan and his family to come up with a decision then take it to them.

A few minutes after the council leave the house Riswan vents out his anger on Salma and blames her for everything, "this is all your fault you foolish woman, you gave birth to a coward of a son and make matters worse you gave birth to a daughter you are so useless and foolish"

As Riswan raises his hand to hit Salma, Mable stops him by holding his hand and giving him a befitting reply,"how dare you father, how dare you insult my mother in front of me,up to now I have put up with your nonsense but not today, you are the most ungrateful person I've ever come across all my life, my mother cooks for you,washes all your clothes and you call her foolish what a shame. Tony might tolerate you insulting our mother but I can't, from now on if you ever talk to my mother like that I will deal with you, you call me useless, just wait and see how I make everyone bow at my feet including you father mark my words." Upon saying this, Mable leaves the living room with her mother leaving every other member of the family speechless.

At dawn,Mable is seated at the Riverside with Mira and Kel, her friends notice that she has not been herself. Mira asks Mable what's wrong, "Mable what's wrong with you are so quiet and angry, usually when we come out here to hang out, you tell jokes and make us laugh but today....come on we are your friends so you can confide in us"

Mable explains everything that happened at her house earlier. After telling them everything Kel asks Mable questions to clear up the confusion, "hold on.. hold in...Mable, you mean to tell me that you challenged your father?"

Mable tells him she did exactly that.

Mira asks Mable how she intends to do that and her reply shocks them.

Mable tells her friends what she intends to do, "I Mable will compete with my father for the position of village head"

Kel smiles and tells Mable he will support her every step of the way. But Mira is scared," Mable don't do it just let it go, its our fate to be the subordinate ones"

Mable disagrees with Mira and then manages to calm her down,"don't worry my friend, I'll change your fate, I'll change it."
