Family bonding time

Tom, who was stuck in his thoughts, almost jumped out of his skin when he heard the door to his room creak as it opened. After being scared to death, Tom turned around quickly and looked at the person who had opened his door. It was his mother, she then entered his room and began calling his name. He hadn't expected his mother to enter the room as he hadn't heard anyone walking up to his door, so he was scared witless when he'd heard the loud, shrill sound coming from behind him. Thoughts of getting the hinges of his door fixed were filling his head as his eyebrows furrowed, the noisy door was rather annoying.

"Tom, what're you doing? I've been calling you for ages!" his mother had said with a smile.

"Ah, I'm sorry..." he turned around to better face his mother and sat up on his knees on the bed, he then picked up and clutched his pillow in his arms.

"Well, it doesn't matter, come downstairs, let's watch a movie together!" she excitedly clasped her hands together and bent over. She had wanted to slightly lower her face so that she'd be at eye level with her son.

The young boy nodded his head and buried his face in the pillow, only his eyes were visible. "Mm."

The woman smiled happily at her son and stretched out her hand in front of her. He promptly reached out his own and took her hand, once she had a firm grasp on his hand she pulled him gently off the bed and onto the floor.

"What'll we watch…" he mumbled quietly into the pillow, his eyes conveyed an expectant gaze.

She smiled and thought about how cute she thought her son was, "Well, what about Iyce Age? I think you'll like it."

"But we watched it last time…" he said softly into the pillow.

With how quiet his voice normally was, added to the fact it was being drowned out further by the pillow, it was difficult to impossible to accurately hear what the boy was saying. However, she could do it. After all, they say a mother knows her child best.

He was pouting, but it was covered by the pillow, however, the pillow didn't hide his slightly furrowed eyebrows and the disappointment that was evident in his eyes. She smiled at her son and ruffled his hair with her free hand, his hair was short and fluffy. Whilst his head was being rubbed he looked up into the face of his mother and saw her warm smile.

"Well, actually they released a new one recently," her smile widened as she thought of an idea, "but, if you don't want to watch it, I understand…"

Her face adopted a look of slight disappointment. She loosened her grip on his small and delicate hands before letting go of his head and pretending to turn around to walk away.

After a moment he suddenly gripped her hand tightly and attempted to pull her back, he was slightly weak as he was so young and small, but she let him pull her around anyway.

"No… see it" he mumbled into the pillow once again, his tiny face scrunched up with his features practically seeping nervousness.

His mother's smile widened and she bent over to look into his face, her free hand was on her knee and her face was but a few centimetres from his.

"Would you mind repeating that for me? Sorry I didn't quite catch it." Her voice soft and soothing.

"I- Can we see it… I haven't watched it yet." He piled gently at his mothers hand and pleaded with his eyes, he was begging silently for his mother to let him watch the new movie.

She straightened her back and stood back up, a smile still graving her face as she looked down at the son who was staring back up at her. She tugged gently at his hand as she walked backwards, back toward the door she had come into the room from but a few minutes before.

He followed obediently, a small smile on his small face as he still clutched the pillow tightly with his free hand. She noticed it and paused momentarily, she had reached the door and had begun to reach for it at this point.

"Dear, why don't you leave the pillow here? After all, if you bring it downstairs you'll just have to bring it back upstairs later, won't you? Besides, aren't the cushions on the sofa downstairs soft and comfortable?" She gasped in mock surprise, "Don't tell me that you don't like them even when you picked them out! Tut-Tut, did you just pick bad ones because you were tired and wanted to go home? Is that how the man of the household should behave?"

She smiled at him whilst mock nagging him, he poured back at her before caving in, a proper smile graced his face.

"Mm, of course I like them… I just… mn…" he hadn't really thought of what he was doing as he picked up and began carrying the pillow so he didn't entirely know what to say. He had just felt like holding something at the time and it just so happened to be the closest soft thing in his reach.

He hurriedly let go of his mothers' hand and plodded over to his bed, he plopped the pillow onto the bed gently and was about to walk away when he noticed it wasn't centred properly. He lifted both of his short little arms to smooth out and position his bedding correctly, it took him a few attempts to get the placement back to what he usually liked it to be like.

Watching her son do this, the woman smiled and suppressed a giggle. Her son was acting seriously and his face had a look of concentration. When he was done the expression disappeared and was replaced by a lighthearted and calm one. He then walked back to his mother and took her hand once more, this time with him being the one who extended the invitation.

She gladly accepted and once again reached out her hand to turn the doorknob and open the door. The door squeaked noisily, the sound resembled a dying cat screeching for help. They paid the noise no mind and instead walked out through the door and down the stairs to watch the movie together.
