Not long after, she told me that the account holder's name was Arya. I immediately understood—this Arya was likely Anna's sister, as Inara had mentioned before.
After hanging up the phone, I called Gabriel, asking him to investigate Arya's whereabouts and background. Gabriel's efficiency was unparalleled. By the time Anna returned with Kyle, I already had Arya's information.
Looking at the report, a bold idea formed in my mind. I leaned back into the sofa, smiling. This could be interesting.
In the following days, Sean came home increasingly late. Deliberately, I asked him in Anna's presence, "Why have you been so busy lately? Is there a lot going on at the company?"
Sean nodded. "The project I mentioned before is at a critical stage. I can't afford to slack off!" Can't afford to slack off? More like he's enjoying himself, I thought bitterly. Gabriel had arranged for someone to monitor him, and the reports confirmed he was busy—busy keeping a woman company.
Gabriel also managed to decrypt some of his encrypted files, and upon seeing those financial statements, it became clear: Sean had been siphoning off company assets for some time. He always told me business was tough, but in reality, the company was doing well. The balance sheets, however, showed continuous losses, indicating he was transferring assets. This scumbag was exploiting the company I had painstakingly built, which my father had invested in. Now, he was living it up while plotting to kill me and seize everything.
Unfortunately, my current health didn't allow for direct confrontation. Although Dr. Han's medicine had shown results, my body, already severely damaged, couldn't recover overnight. I had to keep feigning weakness, lying in bed like an invalid, while my mind stayed sharp, planning my next moves carefully.
One morning, an unexpected visitor arrived. It was Saturday; Sean didn't have to work, and Kyle didn't have to go to kindergarten, so everyone woke up late. Anna was making breakfast, I was building blocks with Kyle on the sofa, and Sean had just come downstairs.
The doorbell rang, and Sean went to open the door.
The arrival of the unexpected guest shocked everyone, but none more so than Anna. She saw the girl at the door, froze in place, then quickly put down the bowl she was holding and hurried over, grabbing the girl's arm and trying to pull her outside. "What are you doing here?" she asked urgently in a low voice.
The girl struggled subtly. "Anna, who is this? Why aren't you letting her in?" I asked.
Anna froze, then turned back to us, her lips twitching as she quickly said, "Sir, Madam, this is... my sister!"
By this time, Sean had walked back to my side and sat down, his eyes deep as he watched.
The girl, looking shy and timid, waved at us, saying softly, "Hello, sir, madam!"
The girl looked pure and innocent, like a small daisy. She wasn't as tall as Anna, was quite thin, and appeared a bit malnourished. She wore a white knitted sweater, a blue floral skirt, and white sneakers, giving off a simple and fresh vibe. It fit her supposed monthly budget of 1500 yuan.
Her eyes darted around nervously, filled with astonishment and envy.
"Come in and have a seat," I said kindly. "Anna, you have a sister? You've never mentioned your family all these years."
Anna seemed at a loss, glancing at Sean, still trying to push the girl out.
I waved the girl in. "Come in and sit. Anna, hurry up and finish breakfast!"
Then I turned to the girl. "You haven't had breakfast yet, have you?"
"No... no, I haven't," she smiled weakly, looking at her sister and fidgeting nervously. "I came to find my sister for something."
"Couldn't you have just called? Why come all the way here?" Anna scolded quietly.
"I... I called you for the past two days, but you didn't answer. I was worried, so I had to come find you!" The girl spoke, looking at Anna fearfully, like a startled rabbit.
"Let's talk over breakfast," Sean said, breaking his silence. He then got up and walked towards the dining room.
I laughed inwardly. The hawk wouldn't let the rabbit escape. I gestured to Anna to take Kyle and then got up, inviting the girl. "Since you're here to see your sister, don't be a stranger. Join us for breakfast!"
The girl looked at Anna, who picked up Kyle with a stern face, saying, "Alright, let's eat."
The girl followed us hesitantly to the dining room.
After we sat down, I asked her kindly, "What's your name? How old are you?"
"Arya," she replied softly. "I'm 21."
"Are you still in school?" I continued.
"Yes."
"Which university? Is it in NorthSea City?"
"No, it's the Media University in Linno City," she said quietly.
Linno City's Media University was a fourth-rate school, and I knew all about it from her file.
"Almost graduating then?"
"Yes... I'm looking for an internship, so I thought I'd try NorthSea City for better opportunities," Arya said, glancing at Anna, who was busy setting the table, clearly afraid of her sister.
Anna finished setting the table and said coldly, "You should find an internship in Linno City. You'll have to return home after graduation anyway, so don't wander around."
"But... I don't want to go back home," Arya's voice grew smaller as she lowered her head.
