High School Arc Begins

It was the beginning of August, and it was beginning to show. The leaves on the trees were changing shades and falling off every once in a while. Alex was readying himself brushing his teeth, while gathering all his empty notebooks and folders he had purchased. He was unable to sleep well because of his nervousness.

He expected everyone to look different, because he himself had grown a few inches and gotten in better shape due to the summer job, and all the extra training he had put on himself. He no longer had a childlike voice and if he had to guess he would think he could start growing facial hair at any time.

He brushed his black hair to the side and looked at himself for the first time in a while. He felt terrible when he saw his face, it caused him to be set aside from his classmates. His father was from a kingdom with a bad reputation, leading to him being treated differently than those from other kingdoms. Not only him, his siblings and others like him were going through the same thing. He was happy though he had found some friends that accepted him, and throughout the years everyone else in the small town, everyone had become used to him being there easing the stress.

With a small glare at himself, that wasn't aimed at himself, but rather the people who believe everything they're told. He left after picking up some food he had bought and made the day before. He put it in his bag with the school supplies, and to save it from being ruined he teleported it into his storage.

He then started jogging to the high school, he wanted to train his endurance so he would be going to school on foot. After three miles he made it to the edge of the town that lead to the nearest high school. There was a small gap of five miles in between the town and the high school.

After leaving the town Alex got off of the road and followed it from a distance. He began bending the light to make it harder to see him, and gave himself a speed boost.

He had seen quite a few busses pass him on the way there a few students looking in his direction, but with empty gazes. He knew why a lot of them had long bus rides. He himself had often gazed out the window staring at nothing in particular.

Other than the burning legs, he felt like he could go on forever, instead of relying on sweat to cool himself down he would make a small breeze to cool himself down. It was ideal for training. He had made a lot more progress as well due to autumn coming around, heat stroke during the summer had hurt him quite a bit.

He was already thinking about some ways to regulate the temperature near him.

'Huh there it is, I was about to fall asleep.'

The high school was in view he saw many students he knew, and saw some from the other town near the school.

Once he was close enough, he stopped jogging and spread the spacial energy around his body. The energy was already stored everywhere within him and by spreading it he could sense anything foreign on him.

He quickly removed all manners of things, including bugs, sweat, grass, and mud.

'Ah there was a leaf in my hair.' 'I'm still not that good at drying my clothes water groups can get so small.'

He reached into his bag and opened his storage portal, bringing the food he packed back into his bag.

Alex then pulled out a breakfast bar, to snack on for the rest of the walk.

After passing the bus area a certain pudgy boy could be seen heading in his direction. Alex smiled it was clay.

"Hey Alex, I saw you running up to the school, what time did you get up bro?"

"I got up at six." Alex replied. It had been a while since he had spoken with any of his friends, and it felt surreal to him.

"Oh, I managed to get a phone."

"Ooh nice."

Clay pulled out his phone tapping on the screen and after a few seconds tapped the two phones together.

"There ya go, now we can contact each other."

"why do they make us walk all the way there?"

"I'm not sure there could be lots of reasons. Help us get into shape, force us to socialize with the rest, or maybe they're testing us."

"I feel like all of those are right, but why can't they just test our gaming skills, or something easier."

"I do agree with that, it'd be a whole lot nicer." Alex said. However he didn't truly agree his personality had changed a lot since he was younger, he never showed much of himself, and if everyone he spoke to were to think they would notice that he seemed to mirror them, no matter who they were.

He had played video games but he was by far not the best.

They continued chatting for the rest of the walk until they made it to the main building.

There they were led into the gymnasium, there were a bunch of tables with a few letters on each of them, on the gym floor below. He was lucky both of his last names were in the same group on the first table, making his search much more quick.

"Name?" the teacher at the table asked.

"Alex… Erebus." His teacher had the same blank stare as his previous ones, as if trying to see if he was joking. After a second she removed a few papers and saw his name. "There you go, it really rolls off the tongue."

He had no idea why his name was what it was, he had simply thought his mother took some really nasty drugs after completing his first name.

He smiled while grabbing the paper and left to go sit on the bleachers.

He had the regular classes for the first part of the day, and magic classes for the rest of the day. He was going to sit alone but he saw his middle school group of friends sitting together, and he went to go join them. Damon, Clay, Darwin, and Raven.

There were a few others he didn't know, but he didn't speak with them.

"Let me see your schedule." Said Damon

Alex handed it to him, and after looking at it for a while he handed it back looking a bit down.

"Too bad we don't have any classes together."

"Me and Alex have one class together." Said clay

"We have all of them together except for magic class." Said Raven cheerfully.

Alex looked towards Raven and fell into deep thought, 'her name doesn't fit her she is cheerful and nerdy.' He continued thinking about names and losing himself in his mind.

Eventually a bell rung it was the bell for the first class. However he wasn't paying attention to the directions they had given out, and he quickly remembered Raven probably knew. He looked around and saw that she was already exiting the gymnasium. He jumped up the bleachers to the exit on the first floor, while using spacial energy to help propel himself forward.

Unknowingly he had just shot past a certain student. The student watched him run with a smile before continuing on his way.

Alex caught up to Raven who was exiting the main building and heading somewhere.

"Hey Raven, you know where we have to go right?"

"Yeah we have history. The classes are numbered and in the same building as our language class, and your schedule has the number." She then pointed to the ground a certain distance away. "There is a map next to all buildings with just the name and an arrow in the general direction."

"It says that history and Language is that building there." with that they continued on to the class.

Alex was felling stressed so he reached into his bag and pulled out his colored cube. He went into the class and picked a seat in the corner. He looked around the room everyone looked different yet similar, there was even a guy he knew the year before who had grown half a foot taller and grown facial hair.

The girls had gotten more proficient with makeup. Everyone else was finally catching up to their height and even surpassing them. They were maturing a few even looked like young adults.

Before too long he noticed an adult entering his range of influence, he turned his cube to give it a scramble. It was loud, well it wasn't but the teacher entering made the rest of the class quiet. He quickly blocked the sound and continued. After he had mixed it he sat it down.

He heard a few people laugh after he did so, the teacher sighed and introduced himself to the class. "Hello my name is Mr. Tatum I am your history teacher, I see that you have all found a seat. However don't get used to them because I'm gonna have you all stand up and we will sit you in alphabetical order. Alex knew what that meant and yup, a few minutes later he was sitting in the first seat closest to the teachers desk. They didn't do much as it was the first day however the teacher caught them up to where they were when they left middle school.

At the end of class everyone had to go out to learn how to open their locker. Their locker was in the same building as their first period class. Alex walked down the hall looking for the number that matched his own, after finding it he did as the teacher had said. He spun the dial clockwise going around the first input twice before stopping on it, then counterclockwise around the second input once before stopping at the second input, and finally turning clockwise to the final input. He pulled the lock and it opened.

'That was easy.' Since he was done he and waiting on everyone else he decided to finish solving the cube he turned it quickly and with the help of the spacial element to keep it stable he finished in 20 seconds. The teacher watched in stupor as the colors aligned.

"Ding" a tone sounded and an announcement begun telling everyone to head to their second class when they had finished with their lockers.

Alex picked up his bag, putting the cube in it then leaving to his next class. 'They laughed, only because they thought I couldn't. Why?'

Alex smiled in his thoughts he was lost, and he was already planning the final days of high school. 'Everyone will have the same look on their face that the teacher had.'

Alex had tested everyone in the room, he could read all of them through his spacial energy, he watched all who laughed. At first it was only a few, but soon after a great majority of them followed after.

His smile grew he had picked his friends wisely. Raven was only one who was upset when the rest laughed. The rest he could also tell why they hadn't laughed. One was sleeping, two had crushes on him, and 2 two more had been victims of bullying. He could sense kindness in them, and they had a similar fire pushing them forward.

He continued on after locating which building was where they taught math.
