8 The Completion of the Webway

After the psychic meeting between the Great Counsel and Slagar, Slagar was treated with the same respect an Honored One would have. Although the 6th title had not fully condensed to a state of usability yet, it was almost guaranteed to be presented to Slagar. If before, the members of the Great Counsel were split amongst themselves on who they needed to preserve for the further advancement of their race, now it was undividedly clear.

Moreover, Gorvor specifically found himself inspired and obsessed with new theories and ideas. The Pyramid project was not only not terminated, but was brought to the forefront of Old One's civilization for focus. This shift in focus was a large benefit the Old One race gained after the return of Slagar as it quashed much of the already brewing political drudgery that had been forming. It gave all Old Ones an opportunity and central focus, which Gorvor and the Great Counsel all took advantage of.

Politics were now no longer focused internally but instead focused on impressing the Great Spirit and 'living up to expectations' more than others. This was a new age of the Old Ones. Perhaps the greatest age their civilization would ever have. It was named the Age of Glory.

All Old Ones competed for Glory and advancement during this age, while making use of the technologies Slagar gave freely. The title technology of Gorvor made further advancements, a branch of artificial Immaterium spirit technology was created, and simpler lesser titles were given to each newborn Old One. The Old Ones thrived and dominated the universe during this age.

And like this, millions of years passed. With each century exponentially improving the quality of life of the Old Ones even further. The Old Ones conquered natural death after 3 million years of history, causing each and every newborn to know agelessness. Their glory shone among the stars and their lives were like heaven on earth. However, there was always one project they seemed to fail to complete during this time.

The Webway project, headed by the Honored One Slagar, had spent millions of years with the entire main focus of the Old One race but hadn't achieved its end goal. The scientists who were a part of the project hypothesized that perhaps the psychic suppression in the Immaterium was preventing them from successfully reducing the cost of creating quantum matter. But this was an unproven and slightly slanderous claim.

In the end, Slagar had to ask Arlow for his assistance in finishing the project. He wanted to use the many silver sands made of Quantum-matter to facilitate the construction of the Webway. If his race continued to rely on their pride to finish the project, producing enough stable Quantum-matter could take billions of years of time just to reach the bare minimum amount for a simple Webway channel. He didn't want to wait that long and Arlow had already offered to help him before their parting.

With the agreement of Arlow, the Webway was completed on a gigantic scale compared to what Slagar originally hoped for. The Webway used the entirety of the silver desert sands to construct pathways to every single location across the universe. These pathways were like two sowed-together ends of space, allowing for quick jumps to and from locations in a reliable and sustainable manner. There was so much Quantum-matter from the silver desert, that 5-6 different shortcuts on each route were created just to use up the remaining amounts.

At the final moment, when the pathways were laid for the Webway throughout the Immaterium, a final click place was needed to stabilize it. A separate dimension was formed, by folding Immaterium space around the Webway, separating the Webway into a kind of 'in-between' space, which filled the space between the Immaterium and the Materium.

After another century of the Webway's construction, a technological marvel that would be remembered throughout all of the history of the university was created.

...

(Honored One Slagar POV)

Slagar overlooked the impossibly complex Webway map with pride. It was densely packed with tunnels and lines connecting them, showing off the true magnificence of what they had created. Many of his people now called him the greatest Honored One, even surpassing Gorvor, and that his contribution to their civilization could never be equaled. The Great Counsel was even preparing a special title to shape and bear his name.

"Your work has become the Glory of our race, teacher," said Slagar's student next to him.

Yes, Slagar had taken in a student to learn under him while completing the Webway project. His name was Weklor and he was one of the brightest minds of the new generation. He was good in all aspects, a prodigy even, but that only made Slagar worry more about his student. Hidden deeply in Weklor's is an abnormal ideology that appeared during the newest generations of Old Ones; pride.

This ideology was quite common among many hatchling learners, taught to them by the schooling pods while they developed early. It taught that the Old Ones had become the greatest race in the universe and were none were their equals. While this may be true, this was not the case when he thought of his own teacher, Arlow. Even after so many years working on the Webway, he could not surpass his teacher in knowledge and research efficiency. Slagar had a growing worry that the new generation would become so obsessed with obtaining honor, that they would disregard others who had helped them.

"Yes, Weklor. I am thankful to have finished this work." Slagar said, rubbing his eyes tiredly.

"Make sure to rest, teacher," Weklor said calmly.

"Yes, yes. I'll do that." Slagar agreed.

Slagar closed the holograph projection of the Webway and left to get rest, but he failed to see the cunning flash in Weklor's eyes as he followed after him.

I need to rewrite some of the advanced chapters ahead of this one because I was not satisfied with the flow of the story.

It might take some time to do this.
