The Final Frontier

"Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it." -George Santayana Humans are foolish by nature, they refuse to learn from their mistakes. Throughout history humans have never come together as an entire species. We continue to kill, steal, and conquer each other, instead of coming together. This will never change. Even when humanity began to cross the stars and colonize planets, this fact still remained true. Many armies formed, Space Nations were created, wars broke out. Humans continued to fight, kill, and conquer each other, causing more and more destruction. Nations rise and fall, this cycle continues countless times, and this era of space is no exception. The present Nations follow this as well, it is human nature after all. This behavior has continued for centuries, and why won't they learn? Humanity would be better off cooperating with each other. We are doomed to repeat this cycle unless we learn. The current Nations are at each others throats, and one even is close to complete domination. Can an era of peace be achieved? Can we overcome this foolish recurrence? This era, this Final Frontier, may be a turning point in Human history, because if we don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it.

Chapter 1

The Commander sat on the bridge of his ship. He is a stoic looking man, calm and collected. his gaze looks out the glass into the void known as space. Along with the vast emptiness, a planet looms nearby.

Suddenly, a voice is heard by the man. "Commander Ducarius, we have something you should see." The voice belongs to a simple radar specialist. Ducarius turns, and walks down from the glass separating them from the void.

Ducarius arrives at the desk, and looms over the mans shoulder. The Bridge of the ship is quite spacious. A central hologram table sits in the middle, while some computer stations are near the walls. Next to the Commander's position, two desks lay to his left and right sides. Currently, he is at the right side, which monitors Communications and Radar.

"We've picked up some strange signals, it appears to be a ship that is about to come out of slipspace near us." The man says firmly. "Did you receive any message prior to this?" Ducarius asks. "No sir, although it appears to be one of us, what's your orders?" The man asks seeming a bit unsure of what to do. Ducarius stares for a bit, lost in thought. "Commander?" the man asks confused. Ducarius looks back at the man, "Bring up our sheilds, and tell the crew to be prepared."

"But Commander, it's one of our own ships." Ducarius walks back to his position in front of the glass. "That's an order." The man nods, and does as he's told. The ship springs to life, the crew goes on alert, although they do not know why they should be alerted.

"Commander, ten seconds until the ship enters out of slipspace." Ducarius waits, seemingly calm for the situation. Then suddenly, the loud bang from exiting slipspace is heard. From the sound, a destroyed ship appears. "What the...that's one of ours!" A crew says in anguish. Behind the destroyed ship, is another ship, completely different in design. "Damn! those bastards used the destroyed ship as cover to surprise us!" The ship begins to launch a barrage towards to foreign ship, which fires back. Many small fighters pour from both ships, engaging each other in the space between both ships.

Ducarius begins to walk towards the exit of the bridge. Once outside, he heads towards an elevator and presses the button that says "Armory". The door opens and he steps out. While heading for the Armory, the ship rumbles. "Alert, Enemy Soldiers have breached Hanger Bay Four." Ducarius stumbles but reaches the Armory. He steps an a circular metal pad and robotic arms spring to life while grabbing armor from a table.

They begin to place the armor on Ducarius. The armor is plated and covers most his body. The armor is black in color, and many ammo pouches and holsters. Once the armor is placed, and locked onto him, he reaches for his helmet. The helmet covers his head except for a front bulletproof visor. Once the helmet is connected to the rest of the suit, a voice is heard. "Welcome user Ducarius, AVALON suit at your service." He then steps down, his metal suit clangs against the floor with each step. He grabs a Assault Rifle from a weapon rack, and head off towards the breached hanger bay.

While making his way to the hanger, a screen appears on his visor. A man's voice speaks through. "Commander, me and Baker have intercepted the intruders at Hanger Bay Four." Ducarius responds, "Understood Fives, I'll be joining you soon." The screen then shuts off.

After awhile, Ducarius arrives at the Hanger turned battlefield. He rushes to Fives, and Bakers position avoiding being fired upon. "Baker, what's the situation?" Ducarius asks. "Well sir, these bastards are getting on my nerves. They've already taken out everyone except us. There should be about seven of them." Baker responds acting friendly with Ducarius. "Thank you Baker, I'll take care of the ones taking cover by their ship, you two cover me." Ducarius responds. They both salute, "Sir, yes sir!"

Ducarius leans out of cover and rushes forwards towards an enemy. The enemy raises his gun to fire. Before he has a chance to shoot, Ducarius fires two rounds into his legs resulting in the enemy dropping his weapon. Ducarius pulls out a combat knife and stabs it into his chest, pinning him to crates behind him. Ducarius follows up swiftly by pulling out his sidearm and pressing it underneath the enemies chin. He pulls the trigger, the loud bang rings out, and the body falls limp. Blood splatters onto the crates, and the body slides down to the floor.

The other enemies begin to rush Ducarius. He hides in wait, and when the first one appears, he grabs back out his knife and shoves it into the enemies throat. Blood pours down while Ducarius uses the body as a sheild while using his sidearm to fire two round into the second soldier, one to the chest, the second to the head. Ducarius drops the body and moves up with his Assualt Rifle. Two soldiers prepare to fire upon Ducarius, but he works around cover and fires at their legs, crippling them. He uses this opportunity to fire one round into the head of one soldier, while Baker fires his own round into the head of the second one.

"That should be all of them, we took out the others on our side." Baker reports. "Good, now prepare a boarding squad, it's our turn to give them hell." Ducarius says proudly. Baker and Fives salute, "Sir, yes sir!" They leave the hanger and begin to recruit men, it seems this battle is at its turning point. This next attack will determine the outcome of this battle.
