Insulting a noble 2/2

The Academy of Magic's classrooms were just as you'd expect a college classroom to be, with layered large stairs where tables and chairs were lined up for two students to sit close together. The layout was circular in shape and two large windows about four meters tall stood on the back of the students, allowing an unobstructed view of the dark green forest surrounding the castle walls in which the mages studied.

Saito was watching curiously the classroom as he and Louise stepped inside, magic was such an exoteric concept to him. Curious as he had always been, he was sure to pay attention. Although there were many beautiful girls that he felt like looking at too, and also at the back which he could see their panty if he tried enough, none of that mattered in face of his thirst for the unknown.

After all, the magic that he knew about came from novels, mangas, and anime, and they usually weren't as detailed as to learn how characters in that world use it. Now he had the opportunity first-hand how people did it.

The lecture itself was similar to how they were conducted in university lecture halls. The lecture teacher stood at the lowest level and the students were in the seats arranged upwards like stairs.

When those nobles saw them coming, the laughter began.

Kirche was also there, seating surrounded by a group of thirsty-looking boys.

"I see, she really does have them wrapped around her little finger. She's being treated like a queen by all of those guys. Well, it's not surprising with her impressive bust. I guess would have fallen too if Louise didn't make me numb after that naked display in the morning. I pity them, at least I'm on the way to being freed of my fleshly desires."

The familiars that they have brought along were a varied bunch.

Kirche's salamander was curled asleep under her chair. There were students with owls resting on their shoulders. From a window, a gigantic snake peered into the class, they weren't on the upper floors, but there should be at least ten meters to reach this classroom on the second floor so you could imagine its size. Other than those, there were also ravens and cats.

What truly drew his attention the most were the creature that would've been considered fantastic monsters back in his world. And they made him very excited, it was like he had entered the world of Monster Hunter which he used to play when he was a kid.

He saw a big lizard with bone spikes on its back, it had four legs on each side, a crystal looking emerald eye on each side of its skull, as well as a reptilian face with sharp teeth about twice the size of his middle finger, they looked like stones that perfectly crossed each other when the beast closed its mouth.

"Is t-that a basilisk?!" He was surprised seeing such a frightening creature in this place, looking at the side of its body, there war a large runic word. "Hallbjorn? I wonder what it means."

There were many monsters as well that he couldn't recognize, like a huge eyeball floating gently midair. He decided to ask Louise.

— Louise, what's that freaky-eyed monster?

Louise turned to look and replied after a single look. — A bugbear.

"Bugbears? Aren't they supposed to be like the furry version of large goblins?"

— What about that octopus thing? — Saito pointed to a white-skinned beast with octopus-like lower limbs and a slightly humanoid upper body that lacked a face and had two slits where he supposed the nose was.

— A Skum. — Louise answered him in a sullen voice and sat down. Saito sat down beside her gaining her glare.

— What?

— That's a mage seat. Familiars aren't permitted to use it.

Frowning, Saito stared at her eyes with anger. "Seriously? Do you really think I'm a dog?"

— Hoo? — Saito exclaimed loudly, attracting the attention of the class. — I didn't know. If you told me earlier I wouldn't have sat on it. Don't want to dirty my clothes with scums' dirt.

Louise's eyes almost bulged out of their orbits as she heard what he said. The others were glaring at him as well, but he didn't care, he just stood up and turned towards the door.

— What are you doing!? — Louise stood up and knocked loudly on the table with her open palms.

— I'm leaving, of course. — Saito answered with a seething feeling to his voice. — Wouldn't want to corrupt my lungs by breathing the same air that scums breathe.

The crowd was irked hearing that. And before Louise could stop any of them, some had already stood up and were throwing insults at him.

— You lowly commoner, how dare you insult us nobles!

— You think too highly of yourself, useless servant!

— If it's a fight that you want, just tell me and I'll make sure to break both of your legs!

— Outrageous, someone, whip his back a hundred times and leave him to his own luck!

Their angered cries went through one ear and left through the other. Without minding what was happening he left the classroom. Although he looked fine on the surface, Saito's fists were pale from clenching then too hard.

Not bothering with that anymore, he shook his head and went towards the library, where he could hopefully have some quality time without being looked down upon or berated by not having magic.

In one corridor, a maiden came in with a basket in her hand, she had beautiful smooth black hair that was shoulder-length, her eyes were dark and similar to his, and her bust size was almost as big as that of Kirche, making her figure extremely alluring in that maiden uniform.

She looked over at Saito and asked curiously. — Are you... Louise's familiar?

— Hm? That's right. I'm Hiraga Saito.

Saito answered a little down, expecting her to treat him like trash as well.

— That's a beautiful name. My name is Siesta, I'm part of the academy's staff. — Siesta smiled without noticing his depressed state.

When Saito saw her kind smile, he felt his heartwarming up a little, she also had a very attractive face so he smiled as well feeling a little bit better.

— You're really different from those arrogant nobles, Siesta.

— Eh?! But I'm not a noble.

— You aren't?

Siesta shook her head. — Those that can cast magic are considered Nobles, but not everyone in Tristain Academy of Magic is noble, the staff is made up only of commoners. That means I'm just like you, Saito.

— Oh! I really didn't know! That dumb master of mine doesn't want to explain things to me, she stopped answering my questions about the academy after just a few of them.

Siesta smiled helplessly as she tugged him to accompany her through the corridors.

— That's normal I guess, the nobles don't like commoners, they tend to treat us very badly. But it's alright so long as you don't stand on their way and don't do anything to bother them.

— I don't see how that's alright. The way you speak makes me think that you all bow down to nobles and never resist.

Siesta lowered her head with a saddened look on her face. — Defiance of authority is a crime that can be punishable with death, and that means any act of resistance against a noble is considered a crime. Any commoner that unsheaths his sword against a noble with giving the noble permission to execute him on the spot. Even if we wanted to, we don't have the means to fight against them.

Hearing this, Saito was first shocked, then frightened when he remembered his earlier actions, but then determined as he clenched his teeth in absolute shock and disbelief.

"It's really different from my world." He thought as he remembered what he knew of this place. "People here have different mentalities, and it doesn't help that it's a medieval era that they live in, for these people their own interest surpasses even the lives of innocents. They truly see themselves as gods among mortals."

— You guys really have it hard in this place. Are all kingdoms like that?

— I'm not really sure, but I heard that there is a place where you can buy a nobility title with money. The nobles of Tristain despise them, calling them fake nobles.

Siesta pulled him towards a path to the left.

— This way, I'll take you to the kitchen. You tried to hide it but I can hear your stomach rumbling.

Saito's cheeks flushed red as he smiled a little embarrassed. — Louise only gave me bread yesterday, I'm really starving but I didn't want to ask... I mean, if everyone like us only gets bread to eat then everyone must be starving right?

— Don't worry, this only happened to you because you aren't a staff member from the castle, but it's not like we can't help a fellow commoner.

Siesta's bright smile was like the hot sun that melted his cold heart. "Ah, Siesta! You're so much better than that demon of a master!"
